Coriander serves up good Indian food with nice service and no-frills decor. Chicken korma was great, samosas meh, naan awesome! We went for a friends bday and they brought out a chocolate cake and sang! I would return to try some of their other dishes.
On a side note, I like that they offer ipad menus with pictures because It makes me more comfortable ordering a new dish when I can see a preview first.
Edit- I had to amend my review (and remove a star) when I looked in my take-home container and realized that they gave me no rice with my curry leftovers! How rude, rice is only like five cents to them.
It would take quite a place to make me forget about my beloved Bengal Tiger, which burned down in a fire several years ago. Since then I've searched high and low for quality Indian food that didn't feel typical. When my mother recommended Coriander, I first tried it alone.
I fell in love.
Then, I brought a friend who had never eaten Indian.
She fell in love.
Then I brought my cousin's wife, who was wary after one bad experience eating Indian. She fell in love.
Then I brought my cousin, who basically only eats American and Italian food.
He fell in love.
(Are you noticing a trend yet?)
The manager, Shaun, is extremely nice and almost always there, speaking with customers, and ensuring the restaurant is pristine. The wait staff is friendly and catering.
But the food. Oh, the food is something else. You'll notice that unlike virtually any other Indian restaurant, Coriander has no lunch buffet. Instead, it features a lunch menu with traditional (think chicken tikka masala and lamb vindaloo) and modern (think paneer tikka wrap and tandoori chicken salad) dishes. Lunch items comes with soup, salad, rice and naan. The food is delicious because it's made with care and locally sourced. Shaun also takes great care with his menu, changing it seasonally to reflect the freshest and "best" ingredients of that time.
One dish you must get is the Lasooni Ghobi, cauliflower slow looked in a tomato and garlic sauce over many hours. It's incredible. Truly.
Coriander has ruined other Indian places for me. I actually have no hesitation in saying it's the best I've ever eaten … and they'll. e opening a second location in White Plains later this year which will feature hookah! Supreme joy achieved!
This was my first time trying Indian cuisine and I definitely like it. The food here is spicy, however ask for the white yogurt sauce and bring the food down to your taste buds' liking. Pros: food was delicious Con: food took a while and they forgot appetizers, it might have been due to our large group of 11. The manager apologized and accommodated us accordingly. Quick Tip: check in on Yelp and get 1 free glass of wine!
Who knew the warmth and welcome of India was just down the road. It's been a long time coming but eventually I would have tried it. I just wish I had been sooner!
Coriander is a family run restaurant which feels like being invited to their home with such hospitality. They are also tech forward with menus on iPads that don't alienate those who don't know what a certain dish might be. A very nice and surprising touch.
We happened to sit outside on a very pleasant evening where it's quieter, thanks to it being packed at 9:30pm on a Saturday! But winter is coming so this won't last long. As for food, my theory is, if you want to know how good a place is, try the chicken, and that's what I did. I ordered the Reshmi kebab. Our table obviously got a number of dishes, which were all very good.
Two things blew me away, the portion and the level of marinade that didn't take away from the taste and texture of the meat, really well done! I was hooked at first bite. The paneer tikka was equally good.
There's a small bar area which is quite cozy to get some apps and drinks if you don't manage to get a table. This way you can chat with the family too!
As it gets colder I will return very soon for some lamb and a nice red wine and reminisce about the old country!
