Being one of the few 24-hour joints in LIC, I'm ashamed to say I've Seamless-ed from this place well past midnight more times than I'd like to admit.
The menu is HUGE. It's more than just pancakes and eggs here. While they offer those diner staples, you can order anything from sea scallops to moussaka. Whatever you're jones-ing for, be sure Court Square Diner will have it. It's solid, hit-the-spot diner food whenever you want it.
I've also frequented quite a few times and it's a quintessential, old school NYC diner. It's what you expect out of a true diner – an absurdly shiny facade, endless shelves of baked pastries, and vintage vinyl booths – basically everything except a waitress named Flo.
I am kind of obsessed with Court Square Diner, everything I've had was just so good! I cannot believe they have such a low overall rating. They serve fast, homemade food. Burgers, wraps, omelettes, pancakes, booze, you name it they've got it. Their menu is 6 pages long and I want to try it all. Their greek omelette with curly fries, amazing. Triple decker turkey with bacon, lettuce, tomatoes and sweet potato fries, amazing. French toast drizzled with syrup, amazing. I am just really blown away by the quality and taste of their food, everything tastes homemade. They also serve homemade pastries, their carrot cake with cream cheese frosting is the best I've ever had! They serve about 10 different types of cakes. And I am going to try them all! The icing on the cake in all of this? They are open 24/7, delivery included. I cannot.
I've eaten here a few times over the years, and have never been disappointed with the taste or quantity of food give. Today, trying to be more 'health' conscious, I went with a Greek Salad with gyro meat added.. It was Trumpster 'huuuugggeeeeee!!' Really, I got this to go, and it was a 10" tin packed to the top, with dressing served on the side in a small container. 2 stuffed grape leaves, green and black olives everywhere, assorted other vegetables and so much Feta, I thought about saving some for later.. The meat was about 4-5 good slices, grilled, yet wasn't dried out as some places do.. Price was a bit steep though I think for a salad or regular lunch, at $16 bucks, but this area is pricey too, so maybe it's normal for this area..
Ok – so I mostly, and maybe only come here after a long night of drinks and debauchery with friends, so as you may guess, most of what I have had is fried and comforting. I normally ask for the appetizer platter which comes with 3 chicken wings, 3 chicken tenders, couple of onion rings and 3 or 4 mozzarella sticks. Yes, comforting indeed. I have also ordered a pasta carbonara (not the best I have ever had), a rice plate and other small things. Price is ok, nothing much different from other diner prices; I do find that they are on average about a dollar more expensive than other diners. I think I tried sitting here once waiting for food and fell asleep. They are always getting calls and orders, that kitchen is never resting, I can tell, but that said, I feel it takes a bit of time to get the food out. The staff is nice, and have seen me at my worse and cordially give me my food and send me on my way. They probably would know my order by heart by now.
I will say this with respect to the food, I can't remember the rice plate I had, but man they packed a ton of rice and the chicken was a bit bland and dry. The pasta was also in big quantity, but was lacking sauce. With respect to my #1 order, the platter combo, I really love it, but always get the worst heartburn that keeps me up at night. I recently tried just the tenders and onion rings and mozzarella sticks because I noticed that the chicken wings either come dark or really dark red (so I am guessing the seasoning) and I thought maybe it was that which resulted in the heartburn. I think I was right since the other foods have not given me any issues. So I stopped ordering their wings, pretty good though if you want some wings with a small hint of kick and very crispy!
No – this is not a first, second or third date type place. Yes, you can afford to take your interest to another, nicer spot for these type of dates. Now, for those in a committed relationship, yes, come on in for a diner in the neighborhood that delivers on comfort food at relatively low prices and that old diner type feel. Or if like me, come late at night and get whatever your heart (and stomach) desires as this 24 hour spot will receive you with open doors!
This is my second time at this diner. The first time was about 17 years ago and it didn't look the same. There is nothing around this area that is open for blocks on a Sunday. If it was, I would have opted for the other options.
We ordered the twin burger deluxe and Eggs Benedict. The burger comes with pickles and cole slaw, the waiter forgot our sides and when we asked about it, he was not very apologetic about forgetting it. He made it seem like, I guess if you want it…he'll bring it. Hello, it comes with it. The burger we ordered medium well, which doesn't mean it should be burnt and dry, but it was.
The Eggs Benedict was no better. The poached eggs were overcooked. The sauce was a little too thick and gloppy. The side of potatoes had a piece of clear plastic on top. Which my BF almost swallowed. The potatoes were extremely bland. We couldn't finish the potatoes because it was gross.
There will be no next time, for sure. Two times is already too much.
Pretty standard for a diner. Huge varied menu, everything tastes fine. No evidence for or against cleanliness.
We came here after seeing a show down the street at the Secret Theater. We were a large group but were seated immediately at several tables. Ordering was relatively quick, food trickled out, we ate, sang happy birthday, and were on our way.
Being on holiday, we found this diner by occasion looking for other restaurants and the subway. This diner is located next to the subway and a ten minutes walk away from the Hilton Garden-Inn where we stayed. The prices are comparatively cheap to other restaurants in Queens and for sure Manhattan. You get water for free (as a foreigner who is mostly used to German restaurants it is a point which has to be mentioned), the staff is very friendly, the meals have a good size and taste well. The style of the diner looks like a diner has to look like in my imagination – especially with the glass pictures which show some sights of Queens (e.g. the Supercup studios). Last but not least this diner is opened 24 hours and the restrooms are clean. To put it in a nutshell: a good diner for a daily visit – especially when you are on holiday and stay in one of the hotels next to it.
I've come here twice with my father a few years ago. The first time we just happened to be in the area, and this place was right next to the train. 24/7 and breakfast all day?! We decided to get breakfast for dinner. I ordered a Garden Omelette, and my dad got a breakfast platter with eggs, bacon, and toast. When the food arrived, it looked good, but the omelette was watery and tasted really eggy… The second time I came here to give the food another shot (and order something else), I got the fried calamari, which is a favorite seafood of mine, and a spinach and chicken wrap. Again, the food was bland and could have been better. Calamari wasn't great and I ended up taking it home. This place is good if you want something convenient, but the food isn't that good, less than average diner food.
