Coyote Flaco

“My go to for Mexican food it has the best Enchiladas Suizas and Enchiladas Oaxaca I've ever tasted on both coasts.”

“We sat outside on their spacious patio, which is beautifully decorated with colorful flags and banners and has plenty of shade.”

“The nachos are some of my favorites – they aren't a pile of food with melted cheese, like most American Mexican places serve.”

  1. My culinary adventure in Port Chester continues with Coyote Flaco and unfortunately the disappointment I've found so far in this area has not changed.  I had checked with Yelp for restaurants in this area and though this place had a decent rating the reviews were about a year old.  A lot must have changed in this time because there is no reason why anyone would give this place more than one star.

Port Chester has a large South American community and I believe that a lot of people are hoping to find a little authentic gem of an eatery in the area.  From my experiences so far I've come to believe that the only delicious, authentic South American cuisine are happening in the homes of the locals.

As for Coyote Flaco, upon being seated we were given the standard basket of tortilla chips and salsa.  The chips were somewhat stale and the salsa tasted like it was made from hunt's tomato sauce, some diced onions, little to no seasoning and for some reason corn oil.  This was our first sign that we were going to be disappointed that evening.  Next came our drinks and the margaritas were short on taste and alcohol and I had some Spanish beer from the bottle which fortunately they could not screw up.

For dinner we ordered a taco/fajita combination and also a fish taco platter.  Both were utter disappointments despite being $13 to $16 which is actually pricey for this working class area.  The fish in the fish tacos tasted rubbery and without any seasonings or what seems like any attempt to give it any taste.  The taco and fajita combo were both beef and were likewise barely edible.  I think for the first time in my life after having dinner at Coyote Flaco that I wished I had eaten Taco Bell rather than having gone out to eat.

Otherwise, the service was decent and the staff very friendly but still avoid it and hopefully in due time I'll find somewhere worth eating around there.

  2. Nice little cantina style restaurant with a take-out window.  Chile Relleno is a dish that I used to benchmark Mexican eating establishments.  They do a good job here.  The nachos are served in a very good but different way.  Flaco nachos are served on a small tortilla and is similar to a tostada. – different and good.  Have had good experience with their tacos too.

Flaco is on the edge of Port Chester so easier to reach and it has its own parking lot.

  3. I honestly don't want to give them 1 star! I love Mexican food it's actually my favorite food & I must say this gets 5 thumbs down! Eww! I had the enchiladas verdes (green enchiladas) & I primarily eat the same thing at every Mexican restaurant I go to and this had to b the worse! I got 1 chicken 1 beef and the sauce they use taste like something out of a can. Marinara maybe?? Eww! Come on now they really tried it with this one! Eww again! Lol.. I will not be returning!

  4. First of all, we haven't been here in a few months, so the bf and I were hyped up for some yummy mexican food for dinner.
It's not the same experience as before- our margaritas were watered down, the entrees were definitely smaller and not as good as before and they got my order wrong! I hate sending food back because I'm too paranoid- I never order chimichangas since they're deep fried. They gave me one anyway, which was definitely a mistake because I ordered a burrito.
$54 dollars later, not including tip, we both left feeling underwhelmed and disappointed.
