Crepes on Columbus

“They're also really good when you aren't hungover, like when you just want a nutella, strawberry and peanut butter crepe for dinner.”

“My favorite is the Crepes with Dark Chocolate served with strawberry, banana, and blueberries.”

  1. I honestly did not enjoy the food here. Maybe I ordered the wrong things. I probably should have ordered a crepe, because the items I did eat were utterly sad.

Oeuf Columbus ($10.25) – poached eggs on a goat cheese potato cake with ratatouille:
I liked the sound of these ingredients. The result was disappointing. The eggs were terribly dry and the texture was rubbery. The so-called ratatouille was just some soggy vegetables with a mushy texture. The sauce, or what I thought was supposed to be sauce, was watered down vegetable juice. The goat cheese potato cake was okay, but the flavor combined with the mushy vegetables just enhanced an unsatisfying sour flavor.

French Toast with bacon & 2 eggs ($12.75):
The french toast somehow came out soggy. I don't know how they managed that. It was just odd. Thank goodness for the bacon and eggs.

Perhaps they were having an off day. Poached eggs and french toast are not the easiest dishes to cook, but definitely not difficult to master, especially since they are a breakfast place.

  2. Most posh crepe place I have been to.

The portions are large enough to command the prices and savory options come with a nice small salad on the side. Recommend the salmon–but I very much liked the apples and raisins. I have a sweet tooth. The only problem is that with all the butter, it can get burnt when reheated (leftovers, of course) in a toaster oven. So if you want to get the apples and raisins crepe–you have to eat it there. But if you are bound to have leftovers, go for a savory option.

Also the tea mugs give you a luxurious amt of hot water for ~$2.

Finally, the service was great and I liked the way the place was laid out + it was nice and warm inside this crepe shop.

If I am up there for a Cathedral visit or similar, I would go back!

  3. Food was fantastic- it was very crowded and wait staff was limited but the crepes were amazing! I had the Nutella and strawberry!

  4. giving them 2.5 stars

mean…I love a crepe just as much as the next person. actually, I'd been craving one for several days and decided to make this my thin pancake destination since its like…rolling out of bed distance.

I place an order for a strawberry, banana, Nutella crepe and it took 30 minutes. how un-American on this day! time issues aside, it's a decent sized crepe, but certainly the most flavorless batter I've ever encountered. tasted like flour, seems like they might want to try adding a little vanilla extract and a teaspoon or two of sugar. maybe a pinch of cinnamon and a tad of nutmeg…but what do I know? oh yeah…FOOD.

this was too simple an order to have taken so long AND be so underwhelming. I would recommend that they take the time to cook the bananas until they're just turning a golden brown around the edges with a little butter, and perhaps they should give me the fresh strawberries they mentioned on the menu and not the frozen ones they think are even a close comparison. I can't be fooled. not impressed but not disgusted. just should've done it myself.

  5. This was my first time buying breakfast at a restaurant in New York City. I must say that I made a GREAT choice by checking out Crepes on Columbus.

Luckily, Crepes on Columbus was not too far from my hotel on the Upper West Side. Once I arrived at the restaurant, I saw that it was not even half full of people as of yet. I found an empty table with no problem and was immediately approached by a server. From the time I sat down until the time that my breakfast was placed in front me, was no more than 10 minutes.

I did not order any of the famous crepes. I just ordered a normal breakfast just I would if I were anyplace else. I ordered hard scrambled eggs and bacon. However, that breakfast came with red potatoes and a "mesclun" salad (check the photo that I uploaded in the photo section). My eggs and bacon were cooked to my exact specifications. To say I was satisfied is an understatement. The red potatoes were AWESOME times TEN and likewise with the mesclun salad. My very first breakfast in the city of New York was OUTSTANDING.

I will definitely be returning to the New York City in the near future. Trust me when I say that I will make a beeline for Crepes on Columbus. Maybe on my next visit, I will try one of their good looking crepes. Nevertheless, I will be returning to Crepes on Columbus. BELIEVE THAT!

  6. Had a good first impression when I ordered delivery. On a Saturday afternoon, it took about 20 minutes and the food was delicious!

I had the French toast with bacon (about $13). The French toast had a great crust, was moist and flavorful inside – perfect. Even the bacon was how I love it. Charred and crispy, but definitely not burnt. An easy meal that most diners screw up, but I was pretty happy.

I guess the crepes aren't winners so in glad I started with the French toast here, and I'll stay in that safe zone.

  7. The place lives up to it's Yelp reputation. Had a chocolate lover's crepe which gives you three choice of fillings for only $9 (including tax). They even substituted bacon with turkey when asked for. Really good experience. Definitely a must-have if you're near the Morningside Heights area.

  8. Bad service. Waited 15 min for menus, even after asking them for it multiple times. Ended up grabbing them oursevles.

Waited again for a while when we asked for the bill.
