  1. If you like ribs where the meat literally falls off the bone, this is your place. It's so tender and so easy to eat, it's perfect BBQ. Sides are great too. Always have an order of their big portion of Mac and cheese and their chili cheese fries. The only con is it's a bit expensive, but when you're the best BBQ in town, I guess you can charge whatever you want. It's a must go to!

  2. I've been coming here for over a decade and it's never disappointed me! I've gone to other BBQ joints, and seriously, no other place compares.

Super tender, fall-off-the-bone ribs with the best BBQ sauce around. Sweet with the perfect amount of smoky. Their garlic bread and sides are delicious too! Free refills on drinks and super friendly workers.

    Worth every trip.

  3. I knocked off one star for two very small reasons-1, I am not in love with the location (It's really far south in Hackensack) and 2, there are no paper towels in the bathrooms, just blow dryers. If I'm eating BBQ, I want to be able to wash my hands and face afterwards and that is just not possible if there are no paper towels in the bathrooms.

HOWEVER-the food here is amazing. My boyfriend and I come in here every couple of months and we both get the ribs-he gets a full rack and I get a half. It is so much food and these ribs are truly the fall off the bone ribs that the South talks about. I have yet to have a rack of ribs that compares to these. All racks of ribs come with complimentary garlic bread (again, generous portions) and a side. I usually get the mac and cheese but they have quite a few sides to choose from that are all very good. I've also gotten lunch to go from here before-the pulled pork or pulled chicken sandwiches come on top of the garlic bread I mentioned earlier! OMG YUM! This is such a great BBQ staple-if you're from the South or just appreciate some straight up, good ol' fashioned BBQ, this is THE place to go.

  4. Simply put, you will not get better bbq ribs, anywhere within a 500 mile radius. You can literally eat them with a spoon.

Best part is the sauce  – 'tis perfect. Not too sweet not too spicy. Perfection.

And an unobstructed view of the Bergen County jail doesn't hurt, either.

  5. Huge portions of OK BBQ. Also they have stewart's black cherry in their fountain soda selection and craft beer because it's a goooood thing. Nice guy who took my order.

(Half a) BBQ pork sandwich: 2.9: OK, this was without onions. The sauce was watery and the pork was a little chewy.
(Half a) BBQ beef sandwich: 3.4: Much better, the sauce while generic-ish was a lot better. The beef was also a lot better.

Plantains: I happened to order these on a whim and they were oddly better than the bbq. Nicely made and good portion. 3.5

  6. Unfortunately, I am a bbq snob. I have spent a ton of money and time on the finer points of "all things cue". So, with this said, Chubby's BBQ at best is an average restaurant. Second point; this is not a bbq joint by the true meaning of the bbq joint.

Chubby's BBQ is a restaurant that serves a variety of items. Ribs, chicken, burgers, steaks, sandwiches, salads, etc. very standard family oriented food. Nothing wrong with this. Chubby's is a very family friendly restaurant that on my visit on Saturday was packed with kids, grandparents, etc.; but delicious cue was not on the menu.

While the hanger steak was very delicious; at $20 for a 7 oz steak with garlic bread and potato; very expensive for this area and environment. Not much value.

Ribs have some work to be done. They where smothered in a sweet commercial brand bbq sauce. It was very over powering. Ribs where way over cooked. No pull, no smoke, no flavor, no something is missing. Not worth the price at $25.

I know, I am being mean, but I am not. I love cue and I take it to the competition level. I just love good cue. The billy v pecking order; 1. NY Jets, 2. cue and 3. The Wife. Being funny; hope wife does not read lol. Don't get me wrong, Chubby's is a great place to take the kids for some food, but if you are a serious cue lover you would be very disappointed.

Overall, Chubby's is pricey for the area. I spend money. Ask the wife when the bills come end at the end of the month. I just feel the quality in relationship to the price; just not there. Chubby's seems to be living on it's past history. Evident by all the sports and civic pictures from the 80's.

    Sorry guys, but………..
Been driving by this place for a while now and seeing a packed parking lot did not lead to a cue-licious experience.

  7. We all have our opinions. Do they matter in the long run? That's open to question. My opinion is the following. I find Cubby's ribs only adequate, the sauce too sweet and the tab too high. But the service was prompt, the sides were large and delicious and everything was prepared to order. In other words, the stuff wasn't sitting under a heat lamp awaiting my triumphant arrival.

If you must have BBQ while in Hackensack, Cubby's will serve your needs. But it was just "A-OK" for me.

  8. I can imagine this place hasn't changed for a long time, the interior is in need of some renovation. The food is quite greasy, the menu is simple, and the service is fair. But this is your neighborhood restaurant where the staff is friendly and the food is consistently what you would expect. I like the full rack of ribs together with the fried shrimps. The ribs are quite flavorful, though not as smoky as I would like. It does come with a side, I picked the mashed potato. For 30 bucks, this was a really hearty and filling meal.
