OK, I am a sucker for meat between two slices of bread. I call them "Hero's"; not some other name some trend setting foodie wants to call them. A hero starts of with delicious bread. Crisp on the outside and tender in the middle. Soft, but yet firm. I know the wise cracks. I'm in a lol mood.
Now, we have the meats. You need quality meats. Not the no name brands with no flavor. They have to be cut to order and with the right thickness. Not paper thin or card board thick.
The add on's have to be fresh and tasty. No can peppers. No wilted lettuce. No mushy tomatoes. Just plain fresh good looking veggies and extras.
Now the most important part; "RATIO". Yes, ratio of meats to bread to add on's. You don't want a thick piece of bread with no meat. Or a small piece of bread with tons of meat. Got it; great; test at the end. The "ratio" has to be that perfect balance of ingredients to bread and Cuomo and Sons has this down pat.They make a great sandwich.
I have had 4 or 5 of their specialty sandwiches and they where all delicious. Now, I am a big fan of Sal, Kris and Charlie in Astoria. They are the best as far as I am concern. There is no substitution, but Cuomo and Sons is right there. Their hero can compete with the best. I would love to see this face off. I would eat my way to heaven with these grand masters at work. Love it……
Cuomo and Sons does a great job. I am very picky when it comes to sandwiches. Just ask my wife. A Hero is the simplest form of food. Very basic; bread, meat and veggies; yet many so call delis just fail. They cut corners to make a profit. I appreciate Cuomo and Sons using quality ingredients with a knowledgeable staff preparing a very tasty "hero".
I must state that I have not stepped inside of Cuomo and Sons. My wife found this place using Yelp. On her way home from work, when we both don't want to cook "Cuomo and Sons" to the rescue. It is at least a once a week destination spot for us and they never fail.
We are now starting to try their hot food and you need to come back for my review lol….

I love coming to this spot for lunch when I am at work. They have just remodeled and the deli is beautiful, and clean. Their salads are delicious. Unfortunately I am a teacher, and I'm off for the summer. I can't wait until I am back in the neighborhood to stop by and enjoy a delicious salad or sandwich.
