Soooo baddddd.
Like a lot of people, I had heard that the TSA is in chaos lately, and arrived very early for my flight at EWR. With about two hours to kill, I opted for the Jet Blue terminal's only sit down choice, Currito Cantina.
I didn't really get there wanting food, but I ordered my beer and saw a picture of some beautiful looking tacos on the menu. I love tacos. They are a weakness of mine, and I suddenly became very hungry. I decided food was on the menu.
I am 29 but very young looking, so when I ordered my beer, the waiter said he would have to take my ID. No problem there. I took it out. He then started looking elsewhere and said he had to go do something first. He disappeared for several minutes, and walked back and forth past my table while I was, for having not yet been ID'd, essentially in the middle of ordering. After I had ordered, I saw the bar put out my beer, which waited there for another several minutes while my waiter paced around elsewhere on the floor instead of bringing it to me. If they would have allowed me I gladly would have gone to the bar to grab it myself.
Eventually my tacos came out. For the most part they were merely bland, but the guacamole tasted bad and old and maybe even a little rancid. A few bites in, I tasted something really weird and kinda fishy tasting (these tacos were pork) inside the meat, annnnnd it was gross. I quickly became very nauseous, and remained nauseous throughout my plane ride. I'm not necessarily saying there was something bad in those tacos, because it's not as though I actually became ill, but I am at least saying that there was something so gross tasting in one of them that I became very sick to my stomach.
This place was definitely a pleasant surprise as I think the Newark airport is a dump.
I made it to the airport around 6pm for my 8pm flight on a Sunday evening. I was a bit hungry and saw this place, but didnt expect much as I don't think most airport food is very good although it has gotten better over the past few years. I grabbed a seat at the bar and ordered Supreme Margarita. Damn thing was pretty good, so good I had a 2nd. My server Antonio was cool as hell and made sure I was all good. For food I ordered Carnitas tacos (braised pork, onions, cilantro and guacamole) which came in a set of 3 and was very good!
If you have some time in the crappy Newark airport, make sure you stop here and get a delicious margarita and fantastic tacos.
The food was a little pricey for what you get, but that's airport food for you! We had to grab a quick bite before taking off and we had time so why not.
I got the cheese quesadilla, which was very filling and alright. Not bad.
The service was super super slow. Which is surprising for an airport and people may be in a rush to catch their flights.
This sit-down set up in Terminal A is the worst experience that I've ever had at any Currito/Boloco restaurant. The food is awful! At least 10 steps down from the conventional fast-casual Currito. Mistake #1 – quesadilla. Not fresh. Old guac. Dry chicken. Is it even real cheese? If you can't make a decent quesadilla, get out of here!
Mistake #2 – I loaded up on drinks – do not do this unless you like sangria that tastes like water down cough syrup and $10 bottles of wine that will cost you $13 a glass.
I literally LOL'd when I saw the bill. It was that ridic. I had excellent room service at the W hotel the night before for the same price.
No, just no.
There is literally nothing in this entire terminal as far as restaurants go besides Currito Cantina, which is the only reason people were seated there.
I came by myself prior to a flight to Toronto, and arrived with plenty of time to kill. The tables are impossibly close together, far too close to give anyone a sense of comfort. Not only are you sitting on your neighbor's lap, you also get to play this really fun game of "excuse my ass in your face while I try to get by the ridiculously close aisles, with my carry on bag."
As I was brought to my seat, up against a wall, the people seated next to me said, "The food here makes me think I might get food poisoning." It was at that point I decided I would be drinking wine for dinner. Overpriced wine in fact, since the wine that they have by glass can be classified succinctly as "hangover wine," but with a $13-$15 price tag. I get that it's an airport, but to upcharge shitty wine that much is truly a crime.
The service is also criminal. Shitty attitudes and slowwwwwwww. Observing my surroundings, it was for the best that I had a liquid dinner because even salads took at least 40 minutes to come out (my glass of wine took 15 to be delivered to the table and I actually had to get up to get the check from the bar, in fear that I'd miss my flight if I waited for my server to come back to my tight spot in the corner).
I will be starving myself or buying from the grab and go next time because this place is gross on all levels.
Let me break this to you. If you are reading my review, you're already screwed. This is the only sit down past TSA screening, so grab a seat asap and order immediately. Nothing comes fast here. Quesadillas are fine, beers are cold, but the time lag, due either to slow bartenders or slow servers, or both, is painful. A drink should not take 15 minutes to pour and deliver to a table 10 feet away.
Not too many options for breakfast at this terminal so this is where I landed. I ordered a coffee and a breakfast bowl. The bowl comes with scrambled eggs, roasted potatoes, black beans, chorizo, pico, house salsa and cotija cheese.
The bowl was fantastic and very filling. Good flavor and will keep me full for my flight. There are a total of 7 choices for breakfast. A little on the expensive side but it is the airport so that's expected. A total of $14.74 for my meal. Coffee was great but not for $3.00.
My server Rosemarie was great!
The only good eatery in this terminal A. The food is over priced, but it's an airport so it's expected. $9 for a 22oz beer… No prices on the menu. Chips and salsa are $4.99. Service sucks, but it's a good place to chill during layover.
