  1. For this dreaded corner of Greenpoint Ave where many establishments (not named Marabella: yelp.com/biz/marabella-p…) tend to last less than 6 months, Curry Point has held its ground for two years providing the hood with some solid Indian-Pakistani food.

Amongst all of the primarily takeout heavy spots, Curry Point is the most friendly to dine in and is easily the least divey. The interior is quaint and the dishes are very presentable. Seating is a tad limited, but it's not a bad place for solo diner or a casual bite with a friend. I go primarily for take out.

I'm not sure if its truly a Pakistani joint, but my desi friends have been adamant to tell me Curry Point is in no way Southern or Northern Indian fare. This may explain why their version of butter chicken (makhani murgh) or tikka masala tastes a little different. Most of the curry dishes are not of the thick and creamy variety, but more of a watery and soupy concoction. Even the kebabs have a slightly less appealing seasoning and are dry more often than notI haven't been a huge fan of them as a result, but most of the veggie dishes have been decent.

Their sag aloo ($6) is a nice blend of creamed spinach and potato wedges that goes very well with their soft basmati rice. A veggie samosa ($2.00) is good from time to time, though it is considerably less hearty than what most other similar establishments might offer. The aloo baigan (potato, eggplant) is probably my favorite dish and the most light. If a meaty dish is what you seek, try the chicken keema, a spicy blend of ground chicken that had me breathing fire when I least expect it.

Consider trying some of their preferred dishes (i.e. recommendations) since I find a lot of popular choices at other places tend not to be at all similar here. That's not to say it's not good, but people who come with certain expectations may come away disappointed. Similarly with Chinese restaurants, don't expect a Shanghainese joint to put together a stellar Cantonese / Sichuanese meal.

There is definitely some room for improvement and I hope Curry Point sticks around long enough to show it.

  2. Small little Indian resto that is great for takeout. There are a couple tables but I never see people sit down. Their tandoori chicken is pretty good as is their aloo gobi. The staff is pretty friendly. There isn't much in terms of decor.

  3. It's still good to me. Maybe I'm not too adventurous but the chicken biriyani is very tasty and l like the level of spicyness. But I actually stopped eating meat since my last review and all the veggie options are great and the garlic naan is tasty. I usually go for daal or aloo gobi and the portions are always generous. The flavor has always been consistent when I ordered.

  4. Curry Point is currently my favorite Indian restaurant in Sunnyside.

+ The $2.00 garlic naan is to die for hence the reason for 5 stars.  Fresh thin cut pieces of garlic, seasoning, and basil sprinkled on a toasted and slightly burnt naan with a chewy outer layer.  Best item on the menu.  Must try.
+ Chicken, beef, or any meat kabob.  Can't go wrong with the combo menu with kabob, rice, and salad.  I've tried 4 different combos and they all tasted fantastic, however the meat was overcooked and thick every time.
+ Note it is best to call in advance to pick up.  One time I had to wait 10 minutes for the naan.

    – Some nights the restaurant is packed and therefore no seating area for those who order to-go.  I was awkwardly standing in front of a couple while they were enjoying their meal.  Very uncomfortable.
    – Avoid the Chicken Tikka Masala.  I ordered it for lunch and had the runs for a couple days.  Perhaps it was just the one time, but I suggest you not to order it.

  5. When I come to Curry Point, I usually order the vegetable biryani. My favorite go to dish! It always hits the spot! I love the taste of curry, anise, cloves and other spices mixed into the vegetables and basmati rice. I like the sample salads that come with the meal. When I first came here, I ordered the okra with basmati rice. Delicious.

A small place located on Greenpoint ave., it caters to those within interest in exotic foods. The location proves to be a gem: Easy for locals to get to and close by other stores such as C-Town and the local hot spot Vivire. A good spot to go to if you want to bring a casual date, a small group of friends or just take out for yourself.

  6. I was in such a mood for Chicken Tika Masala and decided to order some from here. It was fresh but I felt it lacked some flavor. I was good but not great. I also got the garlic naan which was delicious. I would have to try other dishes to see.

  7. I have literally walked by this restaurant many times over years.  I wasn't  really interested in trying this place because this restaurant always looked empty.  I really didn't think this restaurant was going to survive because of its location but it is still in business.

Tonight I really wanted to eat something different but did not want to leave the neighborhood so this was the place to go.  I went to physically order dinner to take home.  When I went in I was pretty surprised because its a cute little place it literally has 14 seats which mean there are three tables that fit 4 people and one table that fits 2 people.  Its a great place to go if you want a quiet low key dinner.

I ordered the Chicken Korma and Chicken Keema which comes with rice.  I also ordered the Tandoori Naan plus Aloo Paratha (whole wheat bread filled with potatoes and spices). Everything was so fresh and piping hot!!

Chicken Korma had about seven pieces of chicken chunks and a lot of sauce which was really delicious!!  At first I thought that they were cheap with the meat, but as it turns out it was a perfect amount.  I had the chicken with sauce over rice and it was really amazing.  There was so much sauce and I was able to scoop sauce with the Naan bread.

The Chicken Keema was interesting but really not for me.  It is ground chicken, peas with peppers, potatoes with a few sliced tomatoes in a spicy sauce.  A very spicy sauce.

The next time I am going to get their Chicken Tikka Masala that is what they are known for.

  8. I am giving this place a five star for quick delivery and readily fast pick-up ONLY. I never dined in. I am even going to give applaud for service because once when we ordered for six, we missed a rice and called in and the missing rice was delivered right away within 10 minutes. I have been to the location twice, it's clean but small capacity with limited seating (only three tables).

I have been to a handful of what Curry Point calls themselves as a sign outside displaying "Pakistan, Bangladesh and Indian" food. I have been to some run down ones and some with nice decor. In comparing with one's in Kips Bay. I'd like to say that Curry Point is fairly medicre. Rating this place 3 of 5 stars.

The first time I ordered the Chicken Tikka Masala with Basmati Rice, a piece of Naan and a Mango Lassi. I've had Chicken Tikka Masala many times before and thought this lacked that rich heavy cream texture. It had a good light spicy kick and medium in flavor, it had more of a glowing orange color than it should and was too liquidity. The chicken in the Tikka is rough and dry. The rice was good. The Naan was okay as well but too commercial, I have eaten more naturally made Naan. Being that was the first time I had Mango Lassi, I can't compare. The Mango Lassi was heavy and very fulling; it was very good. The second time I ordered was pretty much the same but without the Mango Lassi; the Chicken Tikka Masala was bright orange, with medium flavor and chicken in it rough and dry.

My third order was the Chicken Curry with Rice and a Naan on the side. Very liquidity curry, the chicken the same, big chunks of rough and dry chicken pieces. The curry flavor was good, light on the spicy side. The only problem I had was after eating it and going back to work, this kicked my stomache several times in which I had to visit the restroom several times.

Fourth order, I avoid the Chicken Curry and order the Chicken Tikka Masala for the third time and it's still the same bright orange with okay-medium flavor. It lacks the heavy cream I am used to. The chicken on the other hand is a bit more soft this time, no big chunks of chicken, instead in this order smaller softer chicken pieces. I guess they use different parts of the chicken or cook it longer or tenderize it differently for different orders. The rice still good. The Naan still commercial like but good. We ordered two pieces of Chicken Samosa, one order, it's only one step above bad. If the Samosa was any worst, I would say it's bad. I have had Samosa made in other restaurants and homemade by Indian friends, that I can compare with, at Curry Point it was not crispy and the filling felt like the Samosa was sitting there for a week and just heated up. The Lamb Curry was excellent. The lamb in this dish was soft and tender. It wasn't alot to satisfy a protein craving diet but the flavor was good. Not curry like at all, more like a lamb stew, spicy.
