My boyfriend works with a friend of the owner so that is how we found out about Cyndia's. A cute breakfast/lunch spot with a decent variety of meals to chose from. I had the Ricotta pancakes (so damn good) and their eggs benedict (best I've ever had), while my boyfriend tried the Prosciutto breakfast wrap. The food was fresh and the ricotta pancakes were so fresh and delcious. This is definitely a spot you have to hit up.
Edgar V. and I were looking for our next Tuesday morning brunch spot and we found that Cyndia's was the closest and highest rated spot near Edgar's mechanic. The space is cozy, and the staff is super friendly. After speaking with the owner's daughter (and playing with her new puppy), we found that the restaurant is named for its owner, Cynthia, and apparently Cyndia is how her Italian grandmother ended up pronouncing her mother's name.
The weather was gorgeous, so we took advantage of the outdoor seating, where we kept cool under their umbrellas. The extensive menu had many interesting options, but I went with my staple of corned beef hash and eggs. I ordered my eggs sunny side up and burnt, and that's exactly what I got. The corned beef hash had an interesting, different flavor to it. Upon closer inspection, I found that it contained sweet potatoes, making it extra delicious.
I'm definitely suggesting Edgar V. and I return here for our next Tuesday brunch.
Lived for years in the area and never knew about this great spot, what a shame. After our weekly Tuesday meeting, me and two buddies from work (Nick C. and Jen K.) found ourselves in the area after I had dropped my car off at the mechanic. We were happy to see that on such a beautiful day, they had outdoor seating.
After perusing their menu, I decided on The Bird and their 5 cheese mac and cheese. It wasn't an easy choice, their menu is full of not only so many items, but so many combinations. The Bird sold me on the whole pesto-infused egg whites aspect and the mac and cheese was only $6. The Bird was great and the mac and cheese was solid, especially for the price.
We met some workers off their shift who dropped by to show a cute puppy they had just adopted and named Mac. Through them we discovered the place is named after their mother (and owner) Cynthia, whose mother (their grandmother) would pronounce "Cyndia" due to her Italian accent. Making this a family run business, and one that is one very well!
My friend and I really enjoyed our brunch here!
I found this place through Yelp while searching brunch places near Hawthorne. Because of the positive average rating, I thought it'd be really packed around 11:30-12 or parking would be a pain, but we found parking on Carroll Place (the adjacent side street) without a problem and we were seated right away.
The entire staff was young, friendly, and worked well as a team. I ordered the Eggs Oscar (two poached eggs and smoked salmon over english muffins topped with hollondaise sauce served with home fries) with a side of corned beef hash. My friend ordered Two Eggs Any Style (she chose scrambled) served with home fries, whole wheat toast, and taylor ham.
We both really loved our food! The smoked salmon in my Eggs Oscar was very fresh, and there was a perfect amount of hollondaise sauce so my english muffin didn't get soggy. My corned beef hash was tasty, but for $5.00, I expected a much bigger portion of it so that's the only negative comment I have to say about this place. I left feeling full, but I had to satisfy my sweet tooth so I also bought a chocolate chip cookie for $2 lol. Yum!
Overall, I'd definitely come back and try other dishes but I'll probably pass on the corned beef hash next time.
Breakfast with Sandra on Sunday morning. My friend Joe told me about this place so we decided to give it a whirl. Pretty crowded but we found a booth no problem. Service is friendly and food is good. I had oatmeal and an omelette with avocado tomato cheese and spinach. Sandra had eggs up home fries and toast–she ordered sausage with it but it never came. We let our server know about it so he wouldn't put it on the bill but guess what it was. He corrected it no problem. Solid breakfast place with reasonable prices. We will be back.
Decided to come here with my bf's parents during our visit. Most places in this area are diner like or lack the standard dishes in their menu, but not this place. Ordered an Oscar Benedict with a side of Taylor ham and fresh squeezed orange juice. Food and service was good. Only downside was that my bf found a hair at the end of his meal. The server was very nice to comp his meal and also gave us a free magic bar, which was nice of them. Would go back here again. My bf's parents loved their meals and look forward to trying other dishes in the future. Only street parking here. Would usually give a place like this 3 stars, but because of the excellent customer service and the lack of worthy brunch places to dine in the area, I give this place 4 stars.
I came here for breakfast with my Booboo and her brother saturday morning. My friend who is not foodie loves this place.
I had to try it for myself. We were really hungry so I think everything tasted better than it looked 🙂 We ordered the MC hash (corned beef hash patties served on rye bread eggs benedict style) an omelette with mushrooms, spinach, and cheddar cheese, and a side of cut up ribeye with eggs over easy.
overall the portions are just right. I just think a few items are nickel and dimes. like the side of sausage is $3. nothing special of 3 little deep fried links.
But, I would come back and support local business.
Cyndia's in Totowa reminds me a lot of Hogan's in Midland Park. Like Hogan's, Cyndia's is a staple in Totowa, serving the community for a long time. This was the first time I had ever been to Cyndia's, but I could tell that it was going to be a good experience because of what I saw. An old time diner setup with booths, tables and a long bar for people to sit down and grab a bite. The place was packed for a Saturday afternoon, my husband and I walked in for lunch and they were able to accommodate us despite the diner being so crowded. Loved the playlist they had going, songs from the 60's-80's, it was definitely fun, feel good music. I ended up getting the grilled chicken pesto wrap and my husband had a bowl of chili and the Gabriela sandwich. We both loved what we had to eat, it was so yummy, perfect for a lunch. I will absolutely be back again!
