Da Marcella

“Not only is the food extraordinary (try the burrata, ragu pastas, cacio e pepe), but the service was amazing.”

“If I were to go back, I would get definitely get the Pappardelle, possibly the Bruschetta, and probably ditch the Tiramisu.”

“My husband loved the Pappardelle alla Fiorentina, which I couldn't try but he definitely joined the clean plate crew.”

  1. Very good food and very affordable!  I came in looking for cacio e pepe and theirs is quite good. We also got calamari, a bolognese, and a tiramisu – all were enjoyable.  The service is good, and the server made me a good wine recommendation with my dish.

  2. We went to dinner here after work with a few friends for inexpensive pasta and a glass of wine or two.

The pasta is great! The $10 buck pasta selection looked amazing, but i ended up paying a little extra and get the the paperdelle with the wild boar ragu.  Very very tasty and had a nice spicy kick at the end.  It was great!  The charcuterie board was pretty large for 3 people and very good with a glass of wine.

The wine pours are pretty good and the sommelier helped me pick out a good wine for our dinner.

  3. Da Marcella is one of my new favorite Italian spots. Its  become very popular so I go early usually before 6 pm.
Every item I've had has been scrumptious…the tagliatelle bolognese is so rich, just thinking of it now i start salivating. The fried calamari is crispy and light, served with a very tasty marinara(my friend hates marinara sauce and usually calls it nothing but "lumpy tomato juice" but he loved this one so much he asked for more) The beet carpaccio is beautifully presented and delicious. Servings are not small, but not overbearing either, and prices are resonable

  4. This is a cozy Italian establishment in a neighborhood with plenty of pricier options. We came here on a Saturday after the wait at the sushi place next door was to long. I'm glad we did.

The service was spectacular. We had the waiter, manager (i think), and owner each stop by at numerous points to check on us. They have specials every day, and we were lucky enough to drop in when they had Lamb. For $20, I feasted on a lamb that was tender, juicy, and came right off the bone. The pairings of potatoes and vegetables went well with it.

The $6 glass of Pinot Grigio was okay, but what do you expect from the cheapest choice on the menu? We also tried the meat and cheese sampler appetizer which was a little underwhelming but good to share.

I would certainly return since I live in the neighborhood. I might check their menu for the special of the day to see if it sounds enticing.

  5. Awesome experience at Da Marcella! I had the Penne Alla Siciliana and my friend had the ravioli and both were tasty, flavorful, and a great portion – we're leaving full but not stuffed. Even better was the awesome service – the servers were patient in explaining the menu, the food came fast, and our water was always full. I paid $10 for a great dinner on a Saturday night in NYC – super pleased!

  6. A really good decently priced low key italian spot. Great for groups and our waiter was funny and attentive.

The food was spectacular. Best item on the menu hands-down is the lamb shank special that is only available on Friday's. It's huge, like Fred Flintstone huge, like almost Turkey leg at a theme park huge. It's cooked for 8 hours and the lamb falls off the bone. You barely touch it with the fork and it falls right off, no need for a knife and the taste is delicious.

We also tried the pappardelle and wild boar pasta and the pasta was very fresh and the sauce was tasty. I would get it again but it's #2 and the lamb shank is #1. The wine selection is also very good. The place is not too crowded but does get busy around 8-9pm. I'm a fan.

  7. So you're low on cash but still want to have a decent Italian dinner? Then Da Marcella is the place for you! They offer $10 pastas and even the specialty pastas are only $15. Given the kind of neighborhood its located in, with much pricier restaurants like Carbone just a few blocks away, the fact that you can walk away with a great meal for less than $40 total is a steal.

I started off with the Caprese salad. The mozzarella ball was divided into three parts, interspersed with slices of fresh tomato and sprinkled with basil. Very light and refreshing.

I order the Cacio E Pepe for my pasta. For those that don't already know, Cacio E Pepe is a simple but creamy delicious pasta similar to a Carbonara or an Alfredo sauce, in that it consists of shredded Parmesan or Pecorino cheese melted and combined with olive oil and salt. The portions of pasta here are a bit small for my liking, but I think that's deliberate so that they can make you order seconds LOL.

The free breads they offer here are soooo buttery and good! Please ask for the soft baked bread instead of the harded bread, the soft bread literally melts in your mouth!!

And for dessert I ordered two scoops of gelato, one vanilla and the other pistachio.

  8. Truth be told I wandered in here because most of the other spots on a warm Friday night had long waits at 8:00 PM, but I'm happy I  did. A no frills Italian spot the service was on point, with the waiter giving some great suggestions on what to order. Our table started with some Antipasto Della Casa, which was a mix of cheeses and meats like ham and prosciutto, It was quite big and a great serving size for 3 people. The complimentary bread was all right, but tasted better with the olive Oil. The waiter suggested the days special, a lamb Shank marinated over night and it was an easy choice. It came with a side of potatoes and brussel sprouts. The shank was large and tasted good. I ended the night splitting Fondente Al Cioccolato con crema, which was a chocolate cake with vanilla ice cream and creme. It was a perfect ending to a solid Italian meal, being around the block I will return more often and sample some of the other specials.
