I came here after doing some research for places to eat around the TriBeca area, I came along this restaurant. Make sure you make reservations if you have a big party because it would be difficult to accommodate since this place is not very big. The service here is impeccable. They refill our water every time we are down to our last sip and clean up our plates as we finish our dishes. The food here was also amazing. We started with the calamari, bruschetta, and Diavola pizza. They were all excellent. My favorite starter was the Diavola. It was just too amazing, I wish I had more than one slice. For dinner, I had the Pappardelle alla Bolognese. It was perfect in portion because it was not too much where you would be stuff and it wasn't too little where you would be hungry again. The meat sauce with mushrooms were on point. I would definitely recommend trying this place.
After reading raves about the pizza, I chose this spot to grab dinner.
The atmosphere is pretty inviting: Lots of warm colors and low lighting. Despite being a little crowded, it still felt intimate.
I ordered the diavola pizza and I was disappointed. The diavola (spicy salami) tasted a little off. Definitely unlike the ones I ate in Italy.
The pizza wasn't bad, per se, but New York has to have far better pizza options. It was a pleasant atmosphere, though.
Killer wine, though. I loved my individual glasses of pinot noir.
Thinking back to my lunch yesterday at Da Mikele and I'm very underwhelmed.
We arrived just before 1pm to a relatively empty place, but this allowed us to pick a nice table in the back allowing us views of the entire restaurant. And those views are lovely. The entire place is very rustic looking, very cozy; really liked the overall look.
The food however, didn't love so much. Our table of three split a 12" pizza and salad – both dishes were large enough for all of us to get a nice helping too. The Margherita pizza ($17) left much to be desired. The chewy dough was great, and the sauce had nice sweetness to it but the little dollops of mozz cheese were thick and kept falling off the slices. And the slices themselves were soggy. So disappointing.
The Fresca salad looked promising ($13) – romaine, corn, avocado, hearts of palm, shredded cheese (sorry can't remember the name), and a lemon vinaigrette – but fell hard. The salad had no life to it. Doesn't lemon vinaigrette sound good on a hot summer day? Welllll I couldn't taste it at all. All I could taste was the corn. so. much. corn. It overpowered the salad so much I only had a few bites of it.
I had previously read such good things about the Luzzo pizza game but yesterday made me question it all. Meh.
Pretty solid Italian spot. Very casual but has a little bit of sophistication with the interior. Pizza is pretty good and the crust is great on it – not too hard and not too chewy. Appetizers are great too. Much recommended for someone looking for a nice, but low key, Italian meal.
I stopped in for lunch with 2 coworkers the service is kind of slow but the ambiance is really nice and kind of intimate . The salads are amazing I would definitely go back . I also recommend the apple tart dessert with vanilla ice cream kind of wish they increased the portion size but it was delicious none the less . The customer service is slow but the waiters are very friendly and try to be as accommodating as possible
We ordered the small bufala pizza as an appetizers and it came out fast. The staff kept refilling the bread so we always had something to nibble on. I could not ask for a better night out with friends. The only thing missing were more friends. The entry was delicious. I ordered from special of the day menu. I got the three sliders which came in a variety so I got one of each as a tester. The meats were portobello mushrooms, ground patty burger, and a bacon burger. All three sliders were small but packed a big punch and was extremely tasty. The staff never rushed us out after we finished. That is a astonishing considering we were here for three hours. It was a group dinner with friends I have not seen in a while. There was a lot of catching up to do. I will be back here for sure just to try the rest of the menu.
Oh. My. God. The only words that my table kept repeating over and over again after one bite into our entrees. But first, the appetizers. We went as a party of five for a team lunch and shared the Arancini di Riso (cheese rice balls), the Tradizionale (tomatoes, garlic, basil) bruschette, and the eggplant focaccia. Along with the free bread basket, our table basically screamed carb overload. The eggplant focaccia isn't actually the focaccia bread with bits of eggplant throughout as I imagined it to be. It was actually a pita sandwich filled with eggplant and squares of mozzarella. This was also served with a huge side salad. Error on my part for thinking it was an appetizer because I ordered it off of the lunch specials menu haha. Nonetheless, it was still very good and I would definitely order this as an entree, but I'd ask to substitute the salad with fries. After all, fries beats eating a salad any day. Don't skip out on the bread in the bread basket either. I'm sure it's baked fresh in the restaurant because it wasn't your average sour dough bread that most Italian restaurants serve. It tasted like pizza dough! I can still feel the warmth and softness of the bread while writing this review and wish I can be munching on more.
For entrees, I ordered the Tagliolini Neri Ai Frutti Di Mare (squid ink pasta with shrimp, calamari, mussels, and roasted cherry tomatoes). SO GOOD. For $22, there was a healthy portion of pasta, along with an abundant amount of seafood. I'm talking a HUGE pile of calamari. My coworkers ordered the Tagliolini Al Tartufo E Speck (mushrooms, speck, and truffle), the ravioli, gnocchi, and the mushroom pizza. Like my squid ink pasta, all the other entrees were healthy portions, but quality wasn't missing with all that quantity. All the pastas came piping hot, but we were all willing to risk burning out tongues just so we can inhale all the deliciousness in quicker. Everything was so good that despite being full, my coworkers wanted to take the rest home for dinner, but they couldn't put down their forks. Talk about gluttony huh?
I'm so glad Da Mikele is a short 10 minute walk from my office. From the resemblance of the cute Italian restaurants I've dined at in Italy, to the great service and the superb food, I would definitely say that Da Mikele is one of the top Italian restaurants I've ever ate at. We all walked out of the restaurant raving about how great our lunch was. However, the praise didn't end there as the meal we devoured became the office talk for the rest of the day.
Tagliolini Neri Ai Frutti Di Mare, I'll be back for you! And the cheese rice balls. It's like Mac and cheese stumbled into a bag of rice and out came these rice balls!
The pizza here is absolutely awesome.
Gourmet pizza in NYC is one of my favorite treats, and Da Mikele is definitely one of my favorite spots for it. This location is part of the beloved Luzzo's pizza family – so you know that the food is going to awesome. My favorite pies are the traditional margarita and the rucola. I also highly recommend the rice balls. The brunch options are also pretty fun (who doesn't love fried eggs on a pizza, right?)
Ambiance is very relaxed, and caters to Tribeca locals and families.
