I went here last night with my husband and son spontaneously, we were hungry for shellfish and decided to give it a whirl. We first discovered Da Nicos by simply driving by, and it looked very cozy and nice.
We arrived, and were pleasantly surprised with a large parking lot in the back. Ahhh… what a relief, especially when there is snow and ice caked on the ground.
The waiters seated us promptly and we were immediately given ice water (something some restaurants skip on these days). We ordered our meals and a basket of bread instantly appeared. I was a little confused as to why the bread was ice cold, as if it had been in the refrigerator, but I later found out that WE DONT NEED NO STINKIN BREAD! They bring you a piping hot fresh focaccia drizzled in olive oil and sprinkled with rosemary. YUM!
We shared the casear salad as a starter, and it was pretty average, however, the cheese was very good that was on top. My son had the lasagna, which was polished off in about 7 minutes. (He is 14, and PICKY) So I assume that it was fantastic. My husband had the clams with linguine and polished off every last drop of sauce. I had the mussel appetizer and minestrone soup. I used my bread to sop of the leftover sauce. Very flavorful, garlicky and YUM. I had a glass of merlot to go along, but I wasn't impressed with it. It felt old.
To summarize:
The food was absolutely delicious, fresh and nice presented (aside from the cold bread).
The service was excellent, very attentive staff.
This is definitely a place to go! You can bring your little ones as well.
A decent sized restaurant with a lot of Italian decor. We started with the foccacia, calamari, mussels and pizza. all good choices. My entree was the Fusilli alla Boscaiola, which is fusilli with arugula, black olives, fresh tomatoes, Buffalo mozzarella and sweet basil. It seems like a smaller portion that you realize, but it was plentiful. I had to take some home. We split creme brulee, which was well made. My only complaint is that the service could be a little better. Our waiter kept disappearing, so when it was time to ask for the check, he was nowhere to be found, which resulted us in staying a little longer than we wanted. They do have valet, but street parking is available.
Excellent Italian food and a great value for lunch. We came here with a group of 8 and had the prix menu – $11 for a large salad, entree, dessert and coffee. The food was delicious – I had a Cesar salad and rigatoni alla vodka. The vodka sauce was creamy and flavorful, just perfect.
Service was very attentive and very pleasant. They've redone the interior and it looks very nice. Plenty of parking in the back.
Definitely recommend and will be back.
Very good food if just a bit overpriced.
Friendly service though the waiter was so busy that service was a bit slow.
What really made this a nice place to eat was the live music and the great atmosphere and decor. There was a gentleman singing crooner and motown hits and with the crowd here, I felt like I was in a movie or something.
Filet mignon ($39) I thought was steakhouse quality – delicious and tender though the grilled veggies were a bit charred on the outside.
Lobster and seafood pasta for two ($48) had a great taste if a lil bit salty and came with half a lobster. Seabass ($29) was delicious.
Beers were 6 bucks each and a ginger ale was 3.50
