Da Noi
“Both dishes were great, served al dente and with a lot of flavor.”
“For the antipasti we got the Portobello Al Barolo which is a mushroom cap layered with crabmeat & mozzarella in a barolo red wine reduction sauce.”
“My friend and I shared the "Burrata Fatta In Casa" (homemade open faced fresh burratta cheese with diced avocado tossed in an oil & lemon dressing topped with bacon & fried basil).”

A very nice place with super classy service. If you wanted to go someplace that's "classy," this one is for you.
I didn't see chicken parm or some other dishes I normally get but the bread is really good & I think I got some cheese tortellini that was all right. Also had a really good tiramisu.
Alright, came here on a Saturday night for a date night. Was excited about coming here and getting access to the full menu. Had purchased a GROUPON deal because I honestly like to see these places before I commit to full price.
Now a brief and general disclaimer: Ladies and Gentlemen of the yelposphere, I want everyone to know that there is no harm in purchasing a quality groupon. Furthermore, there is nothing to be ashamed of. With groupon, you get an opportunity to venture out to places that would otherwise be outside your budget. Alas, with any deal or discount, there are all kinds of pluses and minuses, pros and cons. Ups and downs.
Enter Da Noi, covenietly located right of the 59th street bridge. Around the corner from famed Smith n Wollenskys. Parking wasnt that hard to find. Upon entering the restaurant, I was ready to eat and try the lamb chops on the menu, which caught my eye when I perused the online menu. The place is quaint, cozy and intimate. Downstairs restrooms and upstairs is the dining room. Artwork all over the walls by Scott Lobiado. Creative pieces and one of the biggest reasons for the extra stars for this review.
The waiter informed us that the groupon included one appetizer, one pasta dish, 2 entrees and a bottle of wine. And an added stipulation, which was not listed on the actual groupon deal, was an extra $20 fee for any lamb chop or veal dish, how quaint.
As we orderd the appetizer was the Calamari fritti, which was the most expensive appie on the menu, but the most disapppointing dislpay of calamari I have ever encountered. Very poorly plated, small portion. I was like wth?? This struck a chord with me because my wife and I felt a bit profiled because we had come here on a deal.
As we kept going throughout the night, the server who took our orders, was even surprised that we were having 3 more courses until he found out we came with a voucher and had a weird look in his eye asked us if we knew our "boundaries". Big words for a small man.
The pasta dish was good, but smaller than expected. The restaurant wasnt even that busy with and it took quite some time to bring out the dishes. I would say we recived more attention from the bus boys and the guy who put Parmesan cheese on our pasta than our actual server.
The service was so slow that we managed to finish a whole bottle of wine prior to even getting our entrees!! Yupp, thats what it was.
When we FINALLY got our entrees, sadly, dissapoint struck again. The portions were small and not worth the price that the menu boasted. The chicken (pollo scarpaiello) was lterally 6-7 chicken wings on a plate of clam sauce, which costs 24.95. Really???? Even more upsetting was the rack of lamb, 4 pieces and mashed potatoes with one single cherry tomato cut up to add more B. S. to the presentation. The worst part of it all was the server who put an automatic $30 tip in for himself. What a douche!!
All in all.. Groupon was $46. The actual meal was 64(look at picture with reciept) .The prices did not, in any way, or capacity reflect the portions. DONT GO HERE WITH A GROUPON or you will get profiled with small portions and unattentive service.
Break down of rating. :
1 * : for the nice, intimate, vibe with trendy artwork the walls
2* : for cool MAITR'D, who chatted us up and talked about the art
2.5* : the food was alright, but the portions sucked. Calamari was low grade for an Italian restaurant.
PS : this is my 100th review. Should've started with a bang.
I dropped in to Da Noi looking for a quick bite to eat after work that wasn't room service, It did decently.
The service was very attentive, although close to being overly attentive. It's a fine line for sure.
The food was very tasty. I had a basic pasta dish, and was very happy with it. The bread basket also included polenta, which was a very nice touch. They also gave me a complimentary side with my meal, which was some weird vegetable thing. It couldn't really decide whether it was pickled or not, or whether it was hot or cold. It didn't seem Italian, and just left me feeling confused.
Da Noi is well worth going to, just stay clear of anything on the menu that isn't actually Italian.
The service is fantastic at this restaurant. The waiters are very attentive and friendly. The food is great, and the atmosphere/decor is wonderful. Definitely try the black pasta if you have a chance. It's delicious, and although it may seem out of the box, you won't regret ordering it.
The leftover pasta made a delicious lunch for the following day.
Overall, I will definitely come back and recommend you all to give this place a go!
Under the radar midtown Italian spot. All of the classics are on the menu but the specials is what sets this place apart from run the mill. Lobster tail special with linguine was top notch.
Very friendly staff with good food. My preference is sitting at the bar. Venue is slightly too dark in the back. They make some of the best drinks at this restaurant!
Reasonably-priced (at least the lunch menu) Italian in midtown east, but nothing knocked my socks off except for the blueberry goat cheese on top of my arugula fruit salad. The deep fried polenta served with the house bread and olive oil was a nice surprise – I first assumed it was mozzarella sticks and marveled at the gumption of a wine- glass-and-table-cloth restaurant, but turned out to be polenta. Even better.
The mozzarella caprese came with two wonderful pucks of mozz. The only thing that would make the dish superb would be if more balsamic vinegar and olive oil. I don't usually like it when things come drenched in sauces, as it tends to drown out the natural flavors, but I chased every last droplet of balsamic vinegar on my plate. And I found out today that, actually, I definitely don't mind eating mozz plain.
Loved the arugula salad with mango, strawberries, and dried cherries. My table went a little crazy when it came to desserts, and ordered practically one of everything. I wasn't so sure about the apple strudel or the flan (wait, is flan Italian? I thought the Italian version of a smooth silky pudding was panna cotta), but the tiramisu and the almond cake necessitated third (and fourth) bites.
One last thing: at lunch, there were only two large tables in the back (including mine) and a few customers at the bar, but it was LOUD. Not deafeningly so and certainly not the kind of din you find in a trendy bar on Thursday night, but there were a lot of snippets of conversation being shouted.
NEXT TIME: more of that almond cake and blueberry goat cheese
I took my mom here for dinner a few days ago and we both really enjoyed thi restaurant.
We were greeted by the friendly bartender, who helped seat us. We ordered the Caprese appetizer, which tasted really light and fresh – I hate old-tasting tomatoes that have been left out a while – this was not the case here!
For our main courses, my mom ordered the bolognese and I got the crab stuffed shrimp dish. Both were very well made. If I was to nitpick I would say that the bolognese sauce could use a bit of a kick.
Overall, this is a nice restaurant and I'm glad it is on my block. I will be back!
