I walk past this place once or twice a day, but never stopped in until last weekend.
Pizza is surprisingly good. I've had some bad by the slice and I guess I wasn't expecting much by the Utica stop, but I was so wrong.
They had a lot to choose from and portions were GENEROUS. Service was super quick and everyone who worked there was pretty laid back.
We ordered delivery. The delivery guy was super awesome! Very friendly and did a good job of making sure we got our full order.
The garlic knots were very bland and distinctly ungarlicy. These were just kinda dry bread. The ziti was just kinda gross. I'll be honest though. While I have had garlic knots from all over the US, I don't know much about baked ziti. Maybe it's really good for ziti, maybe it's not. I just know this stuff was pretty gross. The pizza was pretty good. Quite saucy with big medallions of mozzarella. We ordered with sausage added to it, which was a mistake. The sausage was gristly and definitely did a disservice to the pizza. There are also sesame seeds rolled into the crust, which was definitely off-putting and may not be everyone's cup of tea.
I would suggest that if you are hankering for 'za, just go with the Margarita pizza and skip the accessories.
Um yea, this place rocks in every potential way. Pizza is made fresh and the vibe cannot be beat. Had the spinach-mushroom white sauce pizza: mushrooms were the perfect consistency, spinach was a little crispy but juicy, and the sauce was a plentiful. Sesame seed crust is a super unique thing, didn't think I would be into it, but I totally was. Check it.
Also had a garden salad which was huge and extremely fresh, including mesculin, spinach, carrots, olives, and a creamy balsamic dressing. Food is served on paper plates, but it doesn't matter to me at all, 'cause the food is slammin.
The staff are super sweet and help you decide if you can't, and they are always checking in to see how you liked the food. All that, AND it's affordable. How can you not know about this spot?
Come through, support, and tell a friend.
This place is a special pizza place, not just your run of the mill plain slice place. They have sesame seed crust which is a really good way to make everyone's least favorite part of the pizza more interesting.
All the slices me and a friend tried were really good and they have a really nice atmosphere and very attentive/friendly staff. Will be going back here for sure!
Best pizza for delivery in the neighborhood.
Just get grandma pies and be happy already.
Eek… I heard great things about this place, but the pizza did not proverbially deliver.
Although Daddy Greens is known for it's sesame crust pizza, we opted for the grandma pie – since that's usually our preference. Rocco's Pizza grandma pie on DeKalb has been our go-to pizza delivery spot in Bed-Stuy and their pies are *surprisingly* tasty. But we are always looking for something better – after all this is NYC and new spots are continually opening in Bed-Stuy.
When the Daddy Greens grandma pie arrived, I knew it was going to be meh once I opened the box. Why? The grandma pie didn't have fresh basil. Instead, it was sprinkled with dry seasoning… But it got worse with the first bite. It was just blase, what else can I say? The worst part was the cheese/sauce ratio. There was WAY too much cheese and it tasted like bland shredded mozzarella just piled on the pie. The sauce had very little zest or zing.
Now, this is not BAD pizza. But then again, you won't find me reviewing Domino's or Papa John's because they are not worth my time. But this was also not GOOD pizza…
I really enjoy their pizza, correction my whole family really enjoys their pizza! It was a staple for us for a while lol. We all really enjoy the added sesame seeds on the crust, a nice touch!
The service is always awesome, everyone chats you up while you are waiting, answers any questions you may have about anything on the menu even on the phone super polite. I never feel like I'm a rushed making an order over the phone (which they certainly prefer to an online order). The only downfall about not being rushed over the food is sometimes the lines are so backed up you may have to call a few times to order.
We've recently started branching out and trying other things on the menu. Penne ala vodka was good the kale Caesar salad with anchovies was not. Very very salty anchovies! They should definitely be chopped and tossed with the salad to distribute some of the salt.
Ordered delivery since my family and I were too lazy to leave – and delivery is free!
We ordered a large margherita pie w/ sausage, baked ziti, and garlic knots! We called in and the lady said it was going to take around 45 minutes, and it definitely did, so don't expect to get it any sooner!
Margherita Pie w/ sausage: Yum! I really enjoyed it – the sesame crust threw me off for a little, but after a couple more bites, it really worked for me. The crust is pretty thin and with all the sauce, big pieces of cheese, and sausage, it was a little hard to eat, but still good!
Baked Ziti: Super cheesy, which my sister really enjoyed. For me, after a couple of bites, I was pretty much sick of it – it was way too heavy for me. It was cooked well though, wasn't overcooked and mushy.
Garlic Knots: Probably the biggest disappointment of them all. The knots weren't even garlicy! It was good bread, but it was just good bread with oil all over them, didn't taste the garlic at all!
Overall, great delivery service and some good pizza! Will pass on the knots next time, and try their other pies!
