Wow. We found this place which is kinda of hidden on the west side of Staten Island. Atmosphere is nice enough to bring your family. The staff is very pleasant! Grace was an awesome waitress.
So we ordered:
Mac and cheese balls
Baby back ribs
Brisket
Pulled pork sandwich
We got the pulled pork as a sandwich and the rest of as a combo plate. The portions are MASSIVE.
The brisket is their strongest meat as far as taste goes. Very lean cuts , had plenty of bbq flavor in the meat. By far it's their strength. Pulled pork was wet, the sauce was was sweet, but not overdone. Very tasty!!! The ribs were tender but I felt they were underwhelming taste wise, it needed more smoke/seasoning in there!!! Very tender!!
I recommend this place, and can't wait to get back before I leave!
While I'm not a bbq aficionado,I thought the food was pretty darn good. The atmosphere was unremarkable, its a sports bar on one side and family restaurant for the most part on the other. The service was very good, we didn't wait very long for anything. The mac and cheese balls were good not great, but the hot tots were delicious. I had the half rack and half bbq chicken combo and I thought it was excellent. The chicken was juicy and tender and the ribs were tasty and not too chewy or grisly. Incidentally the corn bread might be the best I ever had. I don't know if they made the blue moon with peach or it was just a special edition from blue moon but that was also fantastic.
Visited this place about a month ago and haven't left a review yet. But let me tell you. Even though I'm not in New York anymore, this place has left its mark on me. I went here with 7 friends I believe and we had some of the best food I've ever eaten. We started with a few plates of their Nachos and they were fantastic! They got to the table and were gone in a matter of minutes. As for the meal itself I got the shaved brisket…. My mouth is watering now just thinking about it. A huge heaping portion thrown on the plate and it was a great experience. Didn't have a single problem while we were there. Thumbs up!
The greatest thing about yelp is finding I place that you have driven past 100's of times without ever even realizing it existed until you yelp a specific category. That stands true with this sports bar. Definitely off the beaten path and if you didn't know they were there you would never find them.
So my favorite things in life are draft beer, barbecue, and sports bars to eat and drink in. Well, let me tell you all three bases are covered nicely here. For starters the service is very warm and inviting they make you feel like you've been coming their your entire life. And secondly the product has to be good and as a barbecue joint they're not pretending to be a five star restaurant. And I want a sub $5 cold draft beer.
Brisket samich @ $11 was absolutely tender, tasty and ample along with great fries and coleslaw. Their house barbecue sauce or live on the edge with their spicy barbecue sauce accompanied with aju. You have to know I went with the spicy and I found it to be wonderfully complex and the perfect amount of heat. And let me tell you kids I am a barbecue fanatic and I found myself being quite satisfied.
A sizable bar with about 15 seats and plenty of room and looks like there's a backstage. Dozens upon dozens of bottled craft beers to choose from.
Oh yeah, they got a new fan.
Worst service- although the server was very nice. The communication was non-existent between him and the kitchen. There happened to be an issue in the kitchen the night we decided to try it. Rather than communicate that to us BEFORE we were seated for an hour with a toddler, it felt like I had to pull teeth to get an answer. We ended up leaving with our food to go- only after the owner handled it. He was not very nice, but I'm sure it was because of what was going on. Whatever the case- you should always communicate to your patrons and let them decide if they want to sit and wait that entire time with a toddler. (The food btw- would probably have been better had it been served there and not at home after sitting under the lamps…..)
Updating this because I was very taken with the owner contacting me about the situation which he remembered. I will surely try this place again.
free bud light and a shot for checking in on yelp?? dude, this place is cool.
a yelp elite event at pinot's palette brought me to staten island on a cold, rainy tuesday evening. it was gross. the roads around here suck. thankfully the yelp app and some great reviews pointed me in the direction of DaddyO's.
the bartenders were super nice and chatted with us.
the other patrons at the bar were friendly.
the beer was cold.
the free shot tasted like cough medicine, but it was alcohol (i think) and it was free.
the pulled pork sammy was just okay. the meat was pretty dry, the BBQ sauce fell flat, and the cole slaw was super bland 🙁 for a place known for their BBQ, i was not impressed. i was really hoping for better. i've been craving a good pulled pork sammy ever since.
the fries were pretty good, though.
the visit is worth it, but i wouldn't go out of my way to come back here.
3.5 stars, but eh.
The evening started out very well. The host was so friendly, and we were told it would be about 20 minutes.
Ok, there were seats available at the bar, we sat and had some beers. They have over 100 bottled beers, which is awesome. The bartenders were friendly and prompt. If we were only having drinks and watching hockey, the review would be 5 stars. That being said, if you find yourself at the very end of Staten Island, and you want to watch sports and have some beers, this would be my choice.
Ok, so now we go to our seats. The dining room was crowded, and loud. Our waiter Rob, was very pleasant and helpful. Refilled water automatically and sold us on the desserts.
Our food came out, we got the 2 choice platter with baby back ribs and breaded catfish. For sides, we got baked beans, sweet potatoes and mac and cheese balls. The ribs were kinda cold, but the bbq sauce was sweet and tasty, better than the sauce at the table (imho). The skin (? Not exactly sure) On the ribs I thought was too chewy. I was expecting more melt in my mouth, even consistency of meat texture. We asked our food runner for tartar sauce, it never came. So Rob came back to check on us, and I asked him and he brought us the sauce, but by then I was too full of everything else. The catfish was very good. I also enjoyed the baked beans (which were homemade). But then, we were charged 50 cents for the sauce. Grimy. They also charge a $5.95 sharing charge.
I think BBQ is one of those things that I will just hold off on eating until I visit St. Louis or Nashville.
Decent sports bar; TVs at the bar showing all of the games. The back area looks like it could be a good party room. The chili was good and the service fine. It is the only thing around for a few miles, so I can imagine this is also a local watering hole. They were also doing a LOT of takeout business, so this place must be popular with local parents.
