Dario’s Restaurant
“It's a small place, can probably sit 15 people and the downside is it's got no parking, except on the street which is hard to get.”
“Words like "master" and "genius" lack the gravity that Dario and his burritos deserve.”
“Family owned and the food is fresh, delivered daily..which is why they won't have shrimp or steak some days.”

This place is a hidden Tex-Mex gem! The food is great. I ordered a steak/chicken bowl and it was very delicious. It had corn, creme, lettuce, pico, beans. It was pretty filling and the price was very pocket friendly. On my next visit I will only order the chicken due to the fact that the steak is steak-umm meat. The chicken on the other hand was fresh and nicely charred. The staff was super friendly and inviting. The restaurant is not the most spacious during business lunch hours you may only be able to take your food to go.
So glad I found a yummy Mexican spot so close to my office.
Pros:
-Dario is so personable and welcoming. Yes, he will call you "honey" a dozen times. It's not terrible.
-The price difference between getting a chicken/beef whatever vs. getting it with steak is literally only 50 cents. First place ever that doesn't charge you like $2 extra. Amazing.
-Steak burrito was delicious. Steak was sliced thin, like in a cheesesteak. Rice was also yummy. It looked kinda small, but it definitely filled me up and then some.
Con:
-Someone's review complained about the salsa being some like El Paso brand and I thought they were just being obnoxious and bougie. But, then I tasted it and understood. Everything else is such good, yummy quality and the El Paso or whatever totally does not match. It's like wearing a fancy outfit with some janky Keds.
But anyway, overall tasty and cheap. Will return!
Dario's is one of the first lunch spots I tried in Newark. In my mind, it is still the best.
For $6.50 I got a steak burrito, which was very good. It had lots of flavor. They ask you if you want your burrito spicy, and you better say yes; their spices are great.
There is a lunch rush so plan ahead. Each item is made to order so each order takes a bit more time as compared to a chain like Qboda or Chipotle. Burritos come with rice, salsa, and sour cream. I am getting hungry again just thinking about it.
There is a good amount of seating inside so do not feel like you will have to grab your food and rush out. Relax. Take your time. However you will probably gobble down that burrito quickly. You should go ahead and buy a spare one. Yea, that's a good idea. Mmmm, burrito.
Love this place! It was here for the first time I was introduced to a burrito bowl, literally in the shell, yearssss ago (like 2008). Before it was popular or known at places like Qdoba, for me, there was Dario's. The food is always fresh and the portions are plentiful. The service is up to par as well! It can turn into an expensive venture if you turn it into an everyday habit. But it's so easily tempting because the food is so good!
I'm new to NJ so trying different restaurants has become a little hobby of mine. I had Dario's for lunch the other day and I must say, it was very impressive! I believe one of the cook's is the owner – Dario, who is very personable and professional guy!
I selected the Vegetarian Taco Bowl – pretty amazing but I don't think anyone who's a TRUE vegetarian would eat this, as it has sour cream and cheese.
I would definitely try them again and recommend to anyone who's a fan of Tex-Mex cuisine!
To call this place a mexican restaurant is grossly inaccurate… From the lack of guacamole, cilantro or salsa verdad it's about as mexican as I am. With that being said, it's one of the few places in that area that serves real food, not that manufactured crap found in the fast food venues nearby. I've had the chicken taco bowl and it never disappoints… Be aware that it's not on the menu but it is the best as it has a little of everything. Full of flavor and a variety of ingredients, the shell itself is made on site. You get a lot of food (maybe even enough for two) for a very reasonable price and if all of that isn't enough to warrant an occasional visit the friendly demeanor of Dario himself is worth the trip. He's easy to talk to with a stupendous personality … all in all its a very good place to grab some food.
Now that I actually work near downtown Newark, I see why this place is popular. I went there 12:15pm for lunch and the line was crazy long. Definitely a hot spot for the business men and women who work in the Prudential building. The food is cooked in front of you which explain the long line (unlike Chipotle where everything is pre-made). The food has always been good. I never been disappointed. I love the taco salad in elible bowel! But if you're looking for a healthy choice, go with the burrito. They also have desserts here. The food price ranges from $6 to $9. You can see the price has increase since they first opened. But still reasonable. If you want to bet the rush hour lunch traffic, come here before 12pm or after 1pm. And if you want to grab food to go during closing time, call and place your order 30 minutes before closing and let Dario know you will be there 5 minutes before closing. Dario will prepare your food and wait for you. He's that awesome!
Food was great. The service was as well. I ordered a steak and chicken bowl. Was very good, however it was a little odd that the steak they used was the frozen sliced steak used for like cheese steaks. Even still was delicious. Rice, beans, veggies, everything was fresh amd fast. Great for lunch! If you work, live, or just visiting in the area can't go wrong here. Will be returning.
