David’s Cafe
“The ricotta toast was light and fresh, but filling with an abundant bed of arugula that was not bitter and roe that was not at all too salty.”
“RAMEN MAC AND CHEESE: you have to order this, it is the first time I've ever seen mac and cheese with ramen noodles and it was divine.”
“The crab cakes Benedict were no joke deliciousness, chock full of crabbiness, creamy and pure with light, zippy sauce.”

David's Cafe but where is David?
This cute little restaurant feels very homey and has a ambiance where you feel like you are walking into a family kitchen.
There are not that many tables in here and they get filled quickly for brunch but the wait was not long for me. There are not many big tables here so if you are a group of more than 4 it might be difficult to get a seat quick so I would make a reservation. One thing you will notice is this place is extremely disorganized but the staff is very friendly so it makes up for it.
When we got seated we ordered right away and got coffee & juice but had to send back some silverware because it was dirty. Ewww.
The food came very quickly but they messed up one of the orders which was the Classic Benedict we asked for no hollandaise sauce on it and they waitress confirmed it but the kitchen messed up. Where they made up for it is they were able to get us a new one right away without the hollandaise.
I got the farmers omelet which was very good with the mixture of cheddar cheese, mushroom, and chives mixed really well. All together we thought the quality of the food was very good the coffee was strong and my juice was fresh squeezed and delicious.
In short:
– Delicious food
– fast friendly service
– very disorganized
– went here when they first opened so it's bound to improve based on how good the food was
My friend and I stumbled upon David's cafe after walking out of a bar next door because we were hungry. Decor and vibe were great. Warm greetings as soon we entered. Casual setting. I ordered the mussels. They were great, but there wasn't enough sauce. The sauce was so good, but I wish I had more because — I would of enjoyed my meal more. My friend ordered the chicken which was great. It was so moist and FULL of flavor. We shared the Ramon Mac and cheese which we both weren't a fan of. The concept was awesome, but it wasn't what I wished and hope for. It was very bland. At the end we ordered the chocolate dessert, which was ok. Could of went without it. Over all good experience.
I think the best time go here is during weekday, since there's no need to wait and food will come out fast.
Like most yelpers mentioned, it's very cozy and homey feeling. They have booze and good food, so what more could you possibly need…
service? attentive and friendly.
I ordered the hangover poutine, let me tell you-the name of it says it all and it was so awesome. If you were drinking all night and you feel like a zombie the next morning, this poutine will heal your hungover soul.
The french toast, pancake and croqoue monsieur were all awesome.
Highly recommended and I will certainly be back for dinner…
Came here last week for my work holiday party and had a great time! The food was absolutely amazing and the bartenders made outstanding drinks! The crab cakes were the best I've ever had and the salmon was insanely good. Even the French fries were exceptional! Staff was great and so accommodating to our group. Decor is rustic and cozy. Can't wait to come back!
I reviewed David's Café the week that it opened, and was curious to see how the restaurant has evolved since then. At that time I described it as a charming Café with innovative French inspired dishes that could be considered French comfort food. When I returned yesterday, I was happy to find a place full and having a fully developed menu. The menu was still a work in progress in November. I remember seeing Chef David sitting at a table trying to figure out the sweet spot in terms of menu items and price. After all, this is the East Village, and dining needs to be affordable.
Which reminds me, I think it's important for those people not familiar with the East Village to understand that St. Mark's Place changes from being a bit rough at the edges at the west end to being more refined and quiet as you approach Thompkins Sq., Park. David's Café is in the more peaceful portion of St. Mark's, and, combined with the casual decor makes for a very pleasurable dining and drinking environment. What I think you will find most interesting about the food here are the unusual seasonings and menu items that do in fact represent kind of fusion between French and American cuisine. Among the main course dinner items I recommend are the Burger Queen Deluxe, asparagus risotto, and 'pork old-fashion'. Frankly, I often prefer to have a combination of starters in place of a main course. Worth trying are the crab cake, ricotta toast, something called my wife's salad, which is an upscale kale salad, and my favorite, the sardine rilettes.
Keep in mind that the alcoholic beverages don't include hard liquor. They don't have a full bar. Any cocktails you have will be made with beer, vermouth, or cider. There are many places along St. Mark's where you can get a satisfying meal, but in my opinion none combine the casual ambience with a touch of European flavor that you find at David's Café. I should also point out that the prices are very reasonable.
As it was on my list, I was super excited to check this new cafe out. Thinking I was coming in to their regular menu, turns out it was still brunch time so I ordered their queens burger and French toast. Let's start with the burger, it was cooked perfectly with all the right flavors but I wish heir bun was thicker- part of it was already soggy due to the fat juicy patty. Now onto the French toast- it was perfect. The crust was crispy, the inside was soft but not soggy like other French toast I've had in the past. The caramel dressing they drizzled on top was the perfect amount and it was even topped with hazelnuts!!! Never had French toast like this before- I can't stop thinking about it right now and would highly highly recommend it. I am excited to come back for their dinner menu!
I really enjoyed this spot. I had the fish and chips and would definitely order it again.
Great beer on tap, fun atmosphere and interesting menu. David is doing an exceptional job! Check it out for yourself.
Waited 30 minutes after our reservation that I made on OpenTable. Were still made to wait an additional 10 minutes for the waitress to set the table and then effectively ignored throughout the brunch rush. Okay coffee, expensive brunch for an overall "meh" showing of food. My boyfriend enjoyed his grilled cheese, but that's really hard to mess up. My eggs were mediocre but it was mostly the inattentive waitstaff that put a damper on the meal.
