I mean, we all come here to pet Bogan and receive an unlimited amount of puppy kisses right?!

And then we stay for the beer, and take a growlie or two to-go.

Departed Soles is what a small local craft brewery is all about. Great atmosphere, great beers, great people serving up the great beers in the great atmosphere.

Their selection always has something for everyone. Today I went for two growlies and filled one up with their Deuces DIPA, bc the more bitter the beer, the sweeter the man is the rules in my house. Second growlie was filled with the Cash rules everything around me ale. Yours truly will be indulging in that one.

Ain't too many things better than a craft brewery in your neighborhood, so two thumbs up for Departed Soles as they have captured my craft beer lovin soul.

Why wasn't this place around when I lived in Jersey City?  I find myself saying that a lot now a days with how the area here–especially around Grove St.–is burgeoning.  Departed Soles is not absent from this trend.  Located right off the main drag, this is a classic upstart brewery.  Long, beer hall-esque tables.  The actual brewing vessels (dressed up like Ninja Turtles) right in the back.  The head brewer/owner always being there.  This place may not be that big, but what it lacks in size it makes up in spirit; like Ciara G. references here, this is what craft brewing is about.  They also have a brewery dog in lieu of a brewery cat, which is a plus in my book.

Great beer to boot!  I like the Philoso-Rapper in particular, as well as the more experimental stuff they bring out.  What they're going to be more known for (just wait for it) will be their gluten free beers.  These beers normally turn out disgusting and make those with celiac disease just miss regular beer even more, but that isn't the case here.   These are by far the best gluten free beers I've had.  Styled the same way as regular beer–IPAs, Belgians, etc.–this stuff gives its regular beer counterparts a run for their money.  To further back up what I'm saying, they just won an award at the World Beer cup for their gluten free beers.  Definitely bring your celiac-sensitive friends, as this stuff will be hard to find once they start distributing more widely.  If you're in the area and haven't been here yet, you're a schmuck.

I was so excited to try this place out – a brewery that I don't have to drive to – woohoo!
Upon entering, it's a pretty cool vibe.  There is a chalkboard with the beer offerings and possible customer-written chalk graffiti on it.  There are hightop tables set up in a communal seating style and there are game offerings (jenga, family feud, scattergories, etc) for you to play while you're visiting.   Note – there are no food offerings, so make sure you bring your own snacks to much on while you're enjoying the beers

My group tried out 2 beer flights. Each flight comes with 4 beer tasters on this cool tasting skateboard and an additional "free" pint for $18.  Departed soles has a wide selection of beer types – ales, ipas, stouts, red/amber ales, cream soda, and a whiskey infused one to name a few.  I would say the beers here are very unique and don't really taste like anything on the market.  Overall, however, the group only liked 3 of the 8 beers we sampled.    It was kind of a let down because as a group of  4 beer guys and 3 girls, we wanted to be able to hang out at the brewery for a few pints, but we got our tasters and needed to find somewhere else to go before dinner.

I hope the folks at Departed Soles continue to hone their craft to make this a #1 destination. Until then, come check it out and hopefully you can find something you like.

Such a fun, little brewery hidden in Jersey City. I found this gem when I was going to grab some ice cream from Bucket & Bay. It's nestled inside the place, which is a bit odd, but whatever works. It's a bit small, but the vibe is awesome. Love the punk rock, skater feel to it. It feels very authentic and ties in with the name of the place. I really like how they serve the flights of beer on a mini skateboard – so creative! The guys there are really nice too. My favorite one had to be GoodbIPA Pilot 2 out of the entire flight.

First visit around 4 PM on cold Saturday in January. This very hipster tasting room was doing big business. I was so surprised to really like the Cream Soda Ale. He really liked Philosorapper and hoppier Dark Night! How cute are the mini skate board tasters! Very good to see such a nice vibe in JC. Parking nearby was tough however!
