  1. 3.5 stars because although my aloo kati roll wasn't as tasty as Kati Roll Co's (for the same price), the truck's manager/owner gentleman gave me a sample portion of the potato puri and it was delish. I'll be back to order that and the daal next time. FYI, he thinks they'll be parking down in SoHo by the C/E trains soon.

  2. Our company scheduled this truck to come to our location as a treat.  Even though they knew they were coming, they had no beef or yogurt.  What Indian food truck arrives without two main ingredients?  It turned into a comedy sketch watching people try to order, even after we convinced him to put up a sign correcting the menu.  In the end, I purchased a Chicken Puri Bhaji ($3) and a Chicken Kati roll ($6).  As I walked away from the truck they insisted I come on Yelp to review them, so here we are!  The food came out piping hot.  The Kati Roll was spectacular – the cooked red onions were like candy and the flatbread was perfectly crispy on the outside, warm on the inside.  The Puri Bhaji was literally one measley piece of chicken tikka on a palm sized piece of bread.  Prices were too high for the portions. If not for that Kati roll it would be two stars.

  3. Desi food truck stopped right in front of where I work in FiDi. They are always competing with another Indian food cart. My friend and I chosen Desi because it's cheaper and no line. Clearly, we were starving.

    Pros:
    – Reasonable price: for $7, you get a meat and a vege
    – huge portion
    – the cauliflower vege dish is pretty good

    Cons:
    – I don't find anything it amazing
    – the spicy sauce is not spicy

I love Indian food but I just won't get it during lunch that often because it's super oily and it will make me sleepy the entire afternoon at work.

Overall, it's not too bad to give it a try!

  4. I give props to any food truck that actually makes its way up to Washington Heights to feed us hungry folks working at NYP / CUMC and the even more ravenous med students. Whenever I see one parked on West 168th between Broadway and Fort Washington Avenue, I am immediately drawn like a moth to a flame, excited to try a new lunch option.

The menu is limited, but I'm not complaining. There is dal and basmati rice, vegetarian and non-vegetarian kati, chicken curry, and chicken masala. An all-inclusive lunch special for both vegetarian and non-vegetarian meals inclues a water or soda. That virtually covers their entire menu. Basic.

The service is lightning fast. If someone told me they had timed my interaction with the staff from my first hello to me walking off with my bag and said it was 60 seconds long, I'd almost be tempted to say that was TOO long! It was like bing, bang, boom!

The workers in the truck? Very friendly and engaging. I'm not sure what my server meant when he said to me excitedly, "Your payment is about to fly off to Heaven!", but I just smiled and said, "…okaaay!"

The food? Certainly passable! And the price is right, too. I got the vegetarian lunch special for $8. Invididually, the items that come in the special would have cost me $9.50. Still, even that's a steal, relatively speaking. I got the rice and dal with lettuce, a vegetarian aloo masala kati, and a can of ginger ale. The kati was doughy but had a nice bite to it, but was a little too spicy for my liking. The dal and rice was perfectly filling. I think I could have been fine eating the dal and rice without the kati. I felt a bit overstuffed after eating both together. (And I'm a girl who can put food away…like a BOSS.)

For a quick lunch, I'd happily stop by again for some dal and rice. It makes for a fast and filling $4.00 lunch.

Plus, there was a sexy photo of a shirtless male model on one side of the truck. Was that supposed to be dessert?

  5. I loved finding these guys.  A big truck painted all orange with cool designs and decoration on the side.  How can you miss it?

What's more I was in need of a little afternoon sustenance while running errands about the area in midtown.

I grabbed a aloo kati roll xtra spicy.  I guess I was ravenously starving cause I was very very satisfied with culinary delight I held.  Greasy goodness right when I needed it!

  6. I first came here on a day when I wasn't too hungry and ordered a small size chicken tikka masala, which turned out to be very small. It was quite underwhelming because the sauce was very thin and didn't really add any flavor to the rice at all. The chicken pieces were small and had some bits of bone. Overall, it was bad in taste and in price.

I came back again to eat the kati roll for $4 on someone's recommendation. Once again, slightly overpriced for something so small, but this time, it was much more delicious. It's oily, but the meat is flavorful and the outside just crispy and flaky enough. Overall, a meh experience, but ok if you're looking for a small snack.

  7. I decided to switch it up and try the Desi Food Truck today. The very friendly vendor told me the Poori Bhaaji was a "game changer," and well, game changed. I will definitely stop by again next time I'm bored of the Hudson St. haul (Pret, Hale & Hearty, etc.).

  8. Delicious! I'd ordered the chicken biryani with onions and extra hot peppers for lunch. Yummy! I wish they were in the Financial District more often as I've becoming a fan. I immediately went back to the office and quickly educate the "Indian food lovers" of my new favorite spot considering there aren't a lot of Indian restaurants in the Financial District. I'm excited to try their lamb vindaloo and basmati rice selection next time around. Luckily I checked in on Yelps and was rewarded with a free dessert. Woohoo!!
