I recently shifted my base to NYC from India and it goes without saying that how much I miss desi food. I stumbled upon this quaint little place during a visit to my husband at his workplace in Times Square. A little hard to spot, the place is not very fancy but the food is mind blowing.
I ordered a spicy paneer wrap with Pistachio milk. The drink wasn't that great but the roll tickled my taste buds. I am definitely going back there again!
I just happened across Kati Junction when looking for something to eat on a recent trip to NY. It was after the dinner hour, and the place was empty. The server was very friendly and attentive.
Stupid me (I blame not having data on my phone), I missed out on ordering kathi rolls. Instead, we ordered the basmati rice bowl with salad. So this review will be about that and I will simply have to come back to review the rolls!
The two we tried were the chicken tikka and the shami kebab. Both were really good, a spicy kick for sure to it (nothing we couldn't handle) but the fan favourite was definitely the chicken tikka. So much so that we ordered another one to take back to hotel for a family member that stayed behind.
This was called Kati Junction, but changed their name to Desi Grub. Same food, same workers. I love this place! Lines can get long during lunch hours, but moves quickly
I recommend coming here. I usually get the chicken tikka roll and egg roll. Both really good!
The place isn't fancy but the food is good and inexpensive. Order at the back counter and check your ticket #. You have an option of ordering a wrap for about $7.00 or a rice bowl for about $9.50.
First time out I had the chicken tikka wrap which was a generous serving of spicy chicken in a soft wrap. Second time I had the rice bowl with chicken tikka. They hand you the open bowl and you add your own salad selection – I went with a corn salad and a chickpea salad – both good. Very big portion.
Both visits the lines were very short at lunch. I will be going back on a regular basis.
This is a small place in the general Times Square area serving kati rolls, which you can only really get in a few US cities. These were OK – not bad but not great. The place is pretty much fast food so you can't count much on service. In this case it was neither good nor bad. There were some small fruit fly type of things on one of the walls (away from the food though). They might want to do something about that……..
I really like this place! It used to be Kati Junction and now is called Desi Grub. I always love the chicken tikka rolls but have been trying to eat vegan lately. Luckily for me they have a vegan roll! It is super delicious and surprisingly light for an Indian dish. It is perfect for lunch time because one roll can definitely hold you over for a few hours. There are many workers behind he counter so although the lines can be long during lunch time it moves pretty quickly. The prices are really great. Not many places around that you can get a lunch for under $7.00. The staff is friendly and professional and will do their best to adjust orders as needed. They also service rice bowls which oh can get either with meat, vegetarian or the vegan option. When you do the rice bowl there is also a small toppings bar to add to the bowl whatever you might want. I have been eating here so frequently lately and it really makes lunch time easy for me!
i like this place! its not as expensive and being in NYC and times square where i work i love it! you can get two rolls for 10 bucks or you can get a bowl which you can add your won salad too which is OFFICIAL!. you will def be full eating here and its not expensive at all for being in times square!
Convenient fast Indian food consisting of various spicy stuff rolled inside a flatbread – reasonable for the price and convenience but not more. Will work only if you are very hungry and don't raise the expectations too much.
Informal place with bottled drinks and some limited seating. We ordered veggie and paneer (cheese) rolls. The filling was great but the roll itself was a bit greasy and mushy for my taste. You may want to recommend that they make it crisp. For drinks they had bottled mango lassi – which turned out to be decent but far from the fresh taste. Recommend you go for safer options: soda or water!
