Dim Sum Dynasty

“We need more restaurant like this in Bergen County!”

“If this restaurant was in NY, I'd probably give it 3 stars, but for its location in Ridgewood, which is pretty much a wasteland for good Chinese food, I'll bump it up one star.”

“The best dishes to try are: steamed shrimp dumplings, crispy bacon shrimp rolls, steamed little juicy buns with pork, steamed snow leaf dumplings and crisy baby quail.”

  1. This place is great, really the only Dim Sum I've been to in the area but everything is delicious. I haven't eaten here besides for Dim Sum but I can tell you it's a place you can count on. It's BYOB so I've seen people bring bottles of wine before and it's good for small groups or celebrations. My family and I go a few times a year but I've expressed interest to friends and dates as well. I love dumplings and I'll try any kind they have. Favorites: shrimp and spinach, crab anything, pork, etc. but all their shrimp dishes are my favorite. I didn't love some of the meat dishes as much, many of which had a BBQ flavor, but my dad did. Sometimes they offer Bok Choy with garlic, which is one of my favorite leafy greens, and it's very fresh here. It can add up quickly but only because you want to try everything!

  2. Food:4, service:3
I rounded up because we got a preset meal for a lunch banquet type of affair and I was pleased overall.   The dishes were good and not overly greasy.   Flavors were well balanced too.   I enjoyed the lobster stir fry,  pork crispy noodles,  and the beef broad rice noodles. My favorite was the pepper steak.   The sauce was perfect.  the meat, tender,  alongside vegetables that were crunchy and glazed with a nice sauce.
The dim sum was mediocre but I really don't expect much from a NJ joint.   I docked them for the service because they spilled water on my cousins 2 Month old baby and dropped a fork on my dress clothes when cleaning up.  A bit snappy too but again,  it's Chinese food so I wasn't expecting much.
Worth trying if you want better Chinese food and you're in the area.

  3. I honestly don't understand how the food here is so mediocre. Aside from a few highlights (the soup, xiao long bao, and duck), the remainder of a meal that I had here with family friends was greasy, poorly cooked and generally underwhelming.

  4. Dim sum in ridge wood, why not… Had pork buns which were sweet and fluffy. The soup dumplings had a great taste but stuck to the paper so trying to pick them up was a bit of a problem and lost most of the soup, did have great flavor thou.
For the entrees we ordered the beef lo mein… Ehh kinda unforgettable, not much flavor or beef for that matter.
The crispy duck was great, nice crispy skin and portion was generous for the half duck
The best part was the lobster special. We opted for spicy garlic and came nicely cut with vegs mixed into the mix. Could have been more spicy but was cooked perfect and had a nice taste.

Service was okay, we felt rushed to order and the menu is so expansive that a little alone time would have been nice. I would come back for dim sum weekends and try it out.

  5. I've been here a few times on wknds for dim sum. Parking is a pain, but that's a given considering the location. The restaurant has 2 diff levels, which is fine but very awkward for the dim sum carts. Watching the wait staff pulling and lifting the cart up and down the steps is jus scary…

I really like their shark fin, pork and veggie dumplings. other than that, nothing too special and they do serve all the popular dishes, like spare ribs, chicken feet, shrimp wraps etc.

I am giving them a 2 bc, the service today was completely off… i asked for diet coke but i got regular, the waitress kept telling me it is diet and i know it was not. I asked for a glass of water without ice, but i got a cup of ice. Then when we asked for hot sauce, mustard and soy sauce… the waitress kept repeating what we wanted missing one thing, so after we repeated ourselves at least 5 times, she still missed the spy sauce… felt like we were in the twilight zoon,  they brought exactly the opposite of what we asked for. With that said, i would still go back… and hopefully have a better experience so i can update this review (i don't like giving negative reviews)

  6. I was a bit disappointed, but given this is Ridgewood, NJ and there aren't any other dimsum place around, I gave a 3 star.

I came around noon in a Saturday, the place wasn't that crowded (I was expecting some wait time if it was that good – busy). The dumplings were alright, but I wished there were more varieties. The food cart (or "tray") came around pretty slowly. And they charged $1 for the hot tea?!?!?! That was quite ridiculous.

I'm sticking to Chinatown favorites going forward

  7. Good dim sum but a bit overpriced compared to other places and they charge you $1 for tea. Tea should always be complimentary, kind of tacky they would charge for it. The good: very quick service and carts come around often. Nice place as well with a good atmosphere. However if you want really good dim sum and a better price head over to chinatown.

  8. WORST. SERVICE. EVER.

We walked in at 11:30am on a Sunday. The place was packed with people waiting at the front but I looked around and saw about 6 empty tables that had yet to be cleared. Already didn't make sense. I was given #7 and the wait began. About 15 mins later, we were seated. Tea came out cold. And I mean COLD. Like, "why did you give me someone else's tea" cold.
Then, we realized.. trolleys weren't making circulations. There were literally two carts going around with the same darn things – one cart was full of pastries/desserts, the other had the most popular dishes: siu mai and har gao. We kept asking when other dumplings were going to come out (and waving down a waiter is NO JOKE here – holy cow), to which every one of them answered, "soon soon." NOPE. Nothing more ever came out. We left to go somewhere else for brunch. My dad was able to pull a dish of chicken feet off the very last cart he saw coming around that he hadn't already seen 10 times – it was apparently completely inedible. He spat it out and literally was dry heaving. Gross. Every single dish was cold. There were not enough waiters and probably even less people working the kitchen. Pathetic.
We also ordered wonton noodle soup – the waitress wrote it down on our check chart but didn't put the order through so it never came out. I even reminded her once and it still didn't come out. The check somehow came out to $70. Thieves. You guys SUCK. And shark fin on the menu? Shame on you – you people disgust me.
