  1. There's a "To Go" in the name of this restaurant so I don't feel bad judging it based on a Seamless delivery experience.

I ordered a two piece meal to accompany a late Friday night at the office, where I attempted to finish my list of tasks at the end of a long week. I was successful at getting work done, although not particularly thanks to this place. There's just so much more you can do with fried chicken, which could be crunchy or spicy or peppery or even all three.

The chicken that arrived from Dirty Bird just sort of sat there.

Even worse was my side of "rice and beans." Was it my ignorance that made me thing I was going to get something like a spicy dirty rice? Either way, the slimy few beans I got on top of some dry rice were just terrible.

On Seamless, there are hundreds of restaurants available to order in just a few clicks of the mouse. I won't be making this choice again.

  2. This was 9 dollars.

Look I appreciate a good chicken sandwich joint with farm to table values. But this is still severely overpriced for a fast food chicken sandwich.
Even for Manhattan. Fuck I think food at Cedar Point is cheaper.

Get it together and stop ripping locals off. Maybe I'll bump up a star.

  3. KFC could easily outrun this place since the chicken here is just okay.

The fried chicken has a hard, crispy crust and the meat inside is not that flavorful, and a tiny bit dry in some areas. The rotisserie chicken has a more flavorful meat but it's outer skin is rather gummy.

The sides were rather flavorless. The broccoli tasted mostly like it was just cooked in water, the garlic kale was even blander (not hint of garlic whatsoever.)

The cornbread was browned and crispy on the outside, and okay on the inside, but it wasn't fragrant.

Overall, the food here is edible but bland all around.

I do like that they sell Abita root beer though.

  4. Of course this place is on my to try fried chicken list.

I was in the area on a Wednesday night for gym class. yelped and this place happens to be just walking distance from my class so i decided to come give it a try.

Dinner for one to go. I got the 2 piece dark meat that comes with one side. I picked the garlic kale. Kale was really blend, not much flavor..slightly disappointed..but i am all in for the fried chicken so that did not really matter.

The chicken was juicy inside. Skin is not as crispy. reminds me of the KFC (normal fried chicken not the extra crispy type). Skin was good, and salty enough with herbs. but the inside was not much taste. However, the hot sauce does help. I like their hot sauce. Make sure you ask for it if you do take out since they don't pack it for you I suppose.

Overall i am torn between a 3.5-4. I want to give it a higher score but i think i've really had much better fried chicken in nyc. I would probably come back again..to try their other sides. Very easy for a take out, wait was very short and service was efficient. Cute little shop.I paid a total of around $11 for my dinner.

  5. So I went back a second time (previous review below) and the chicken was dry/overcooked. Definitely a 3-star experience. I could take the average but I'm going to go with my gut here and just give them what I think they deserve. That's why you have to go to these places more than once before reviewing..

Hate to stand out from the crowd but we had their rotisserie chicken and it's as good as any I've ever had (and I've had a lot). Can't say anything about their fried chicken, and I agree their prices are high for the portion size. But you can't fake taste and this was top notch.

That said, that's just one visit (hey maybe they got lucky). We'll try it again and I reserve the right to change this review up if things change.

  6. It's lucky I usually just order delivery, because I have a hunch this little spot has a B rating more often than I care to think about.  But their food is like crack, and I keep coming back no matter what.  Huge white meat chicken tenders, buttery Mac and Cheese that would make Paula Deen grin, and delightfully tangy BBQ sauce.  Yes they have more than that on their menu, but I'm a creature of habit, what can I say.

The few times I've dined in have always been pleasant.  They do a brisk takeout business, but you can usually find one of their tables free for eating in their small-ish space.  And the staff is always friendly and ready to chat if you're there dining solo.

Don't even hesitate with wondering if the "up charge" for picking Mac and Cheese as your meal's side is worth it.  Just trust me and know that it is.

  7. Split a whole chicken with a friend and a couple of sides. The chicken comes off the bone easily and is flavored well. The garlic kale is pretty good as well

The staff was very friendly and gave suggestions. I definitely recommend this place

  8. Not the best fried chicken sandwich I've had (my standard litmus test at fried chicken establishments), but decent. The white cheddar mac and cheese hit the spot though and the prices were very reasonable.

Now back to the sandwich… The chicken itself was fairly juicy and not at all dry, but the sandwich was a little bland. A bit too much iceberg lettuce too. Generally, I like a little hot sauce or some sort of flavoring option and this sandwich came with a dab of some sort of spicy mayo. Though unique, it was inferior to most fried chicken seasoning options I've had. The garlic kale was also underwhelming and a little overcooked. I know sautéed greens often have the tendency to be soggy, but kale can usually benefit from being a bit less well done. What's more, the garlic flavor was present but not doing a whole lot — long story short, I've had much better kale.

I'm curious to try the chicken tenders here! They look very tasty and likely have the capacity to out perform the chicken sandwich. With some creamy mac and Dirty Bird's speedy service and delivery, there is definite potential for a satisfying meal.
