Dokebi Bar & Grill

“Not the best, but very good, and I particularly like the spicy seafood Bi Bim Bop in the stone bowl.”

“The mushroom BiBimBahp is very good, and I strongly recommend going for the stone bowl which makes some of the rice nice and crispy.”

“I think the best dishes to order are:
1) Seafood Pajun (pancakes)
2) Beef jap chae (noodles)

Sometimes, they ask if you want it "spicy".”

  1. My fiancé and I went here on a "quick" lunch date. I say "quick" because he and I unknowingly sat and took long to order only to realize we had 20 minutes to eat before heading out to see Star Wars VII. Fortunately, our waitress was very kind and efficient. We ordered a bottle of soju and spicy Korean fried chicken. The chicken had the right amount of spice and tenderness. We will definitely come back to try other things on the menu.

  2. This place is basically for korean bbq. It's not the best place to have korean food due to the fact it doesn't taste that great. The price was a little pricy too but if you are looking for authentic good tasting korean bbq food this is not the place.

  3. One of the few Korean restaurants in the Williamsburg area – and it's okay.  The banchan (side dishes) were good (with the exception of the kimchi, that wasn't good), but the service here not so much.  We asked to get out banchan refilled three times and they kept telling us we had to wait until everyone in the restaurant got their food first. Huh. I ordered the soondubu, and there was barely anything in it.  It was watery and average on taste – I definitely could have made something better.  The prices were on the more expensive side as well.  My friends ordered the bibimbpap, and they had to pay an extra $2 to get it in the stone pot on top of the $14 for beef and $15 for seafood.  Shouldn't it already come in the stone pot to begin with..? I also came here a while back and had shabu shabu – the sauces were watery and it just wasn't impressive.  Overall you could get better Korean food in Ktown for cheaper, along with better service.

  4. Came for an intimate birthday celebration! The four of us did the tabletop bbq. Though pricey, it wasn't actually crazy, probably on par with k-town. The kalbi was high quality and well marinated. The bulgogi was also great. Came with several sides (banchan), which were surprisingly authentic. We also got a large order of the wings and japchae (stir fried glass noodles) to share. The husbands split a pitcher of beer, and bff and I shared a bottle of their malbec. We left the baby home for the night, but I did note that there were several families with young children there. The restaurant supplies high chairs. Nice place, not over crowded, and great food!

  5. ATMOSPHERE: Really laid back, mood lighting, and calming upon entering. Lots of little tables, some with the grill in the center, and some without. We chose to do the cook your own option.

FOOD: We had the chicken for 2. Came with more than enough chicken, plus about 8 different small sides. Also came with lettuce wraps, and some crudite for snacking and dipping. I loved the hot sauce for the chicken. Just the right amount of kick.

DRINKS: I had the sake martini and guest had the sake margarita. We both enjoyed them. Unique spin on the standard martini/marg with the sake base.

OVERALL: A bit pricey, but you can expect that at Korean BBQ (which always kind of confuses me because I pay to cook my own food…) but I know it's more about the experience, and service was on point. Would come again.

  6. FINALLY. A Korean restaurant in Brooklyn with authentic Korean cuisine! A restaurant I can take my Korean mom to and actually impress her.

So let's face it. Brooklyn is lacking on the Korean department. There are a handful of so-called "fusion" Korean-inspired pubs that serve soju and Korean fried chicken; however, it is rather difficult to find a place that has food that can compare to K-town in Manhattan or Flushing, or even northern New Jersey. Dokebi does a great job in meeting my Korean food needs. The food isn't overly "americanized" and actually fits the traditional standards, such as the banchan (complimentary Korean side dishes) being served fresh and the refilled for free as well, plus the stews are not overly salty and full of MSG; in fact, their stews are almost as good as the restaurants in K-town.

Service is on point and YES THEY DELIVER!

  7. Great decor & roomy establishment. I just don't like the take of fusion cuisine plus the taste of how they make my food (practically ordered out their whole menu). Call me picky or Korean food elitist but the food itself is just ok. Even the taco tortilla's were a bit stale or not warmed up properly…I guess I'm just not a fan. I would typically order from this place when I was desperate for Korean food and worked a block away. I would recommend Brooklyn Seoul over Dokebi for more authentic tasting Korean food with a slightly better price range as well.

  8. It's definitely not in a very Korean part of town, so I wasn't expecting Dokebi to be the most authentic Korean fare I've ever tried. But I have to say I've been pretty impressed all of the times I've been there and now it's one of my go-to's in the area.

I haven't tried any of their Asian fusion tacos or burritos… I preferred to stick with the classics like bibimbop or ddukguuk (on New Years morning, as is Korean tradition). They're generous with the banchan and the dishes aren't huge, but perfectly filling and well made. Again, the soup didn't beat ones I've had in K-Towns or at my grandma's house, but it did the job.

I wasn't as happy with the brunch – I was so excited to see that they had a kimchi fried rice omelette as omu-rice is one of my favorite comfort foods, but I found it to be pretty unflavorful unfortunately. It's probably smartest to stick with their normal menu.

I think we've had the same server almost every time we've been there and she's always really sweet and efficient. I've only ever seen a long wait one time in the many times I've stopped by, so for those reasons I'm a proud regular!
