Yay proper Dominican food in Queens!!! It's a delivery, take out and eat in kind of place and the menu is expansive! Everything I've had here thus far has been delicious and the portions generous for the price point. I'm a huge fan of mofongo and their shrimp mofongo with the super garlicky gravy that comes with is just heavenly. They also have this crazy good mixed fried appetizer dish of fried garlic chicken pieces, chorizo, triangles of battered queso frio, tostones, salami, and fried pork chunks. This alone with side of their arroz con gandules, or morro rice as their menu says, is more than satisfying. The small portion order is more than enough for 4 people, though I've ordered it for just 2 people as well and polished it off but I digress…the days where I can fit in a dessert at the end, I always end with a slice of tres leches cake and it hits the spot! Moist and delicious and not overly sweet.
The eat in space is kept clean and welcoming and every staff person there has been very personable and attentive. I've not ordered out yet but the separate area where you can order to go looked like it was maintained nicely and always stocked well with a variety of selections to choose from.
I've been to one other location with the same name and I have to say that I was under impressed by that locations food and staff. Definitely will be coming back to this one!
G had been told about this place from the folks at Quest Diagnostic, saying this place had the best empanadas. We had driven by numerous times and talked about stopping in, but never stopped. What a big mistake on our part as this place has really great food and very reasonable prices.
When you first walk in, there is a large take out area where you can see all of the food displays. Everything looked so good, so after scoping out the food we decided to sit in the dining room which is adjacent to the take out area.
The waitress was absolutely adorable and told us everything that came with the meal, in no specific order. She was so cute.
G ordered what I called the country fried steak, but he had the correct name. I ordered the beef stew, with carrots and potatoes. Both meals came with a salad. G ordered the maduros as his side and wow what a large side. He was able to finish the steak, which was two huge pieces. I tasted the steak and it was very good.
My beef stew was served in a good sized bowl with lots of meat, carrots and potatoes in a very fragrant and flavorful gravy. You could tell by the tenderness that this dish had cooked slowly for hours. My side was spanish rice and a small bowl of beans. The meal was overwhelming with the size and aromas but I overcame and started the eating journey. The beef stew here is the best I have ever had and the gravy, they could sell the gravy for just bread dipping. So good. Carrots tender all the way through and the potatoes had soaked in those meaty juices. This is the first time that I can recall where I ate the veggies up first before I really dug into the meat. I did ask our waitress for some extra gravy for my rice. G said I was supposed to add the beans to my rice, but gravy on rice was so good I needed extra. The bowl had huge chunks of meat and it was tender, juicy and I could not eat it all so it came home with me. There were also three large pieces of maduras on my rice plate. Good gosh how much can a person eat?
This place is a hole in the wall, but a very delicious hole in the wall. On the way out, we both said "when are we coming back here". Not soon enough! This place gets 5 stars on the yummy chart.
On a recent visit for an order of Oxtail with Spanish rice, I've noticed that the serving portion is much smaller which now makes the price very unreasonable.
Eventhough a small side salad is still included, I guess finding another Spanish restaurant is in my future.
To add to the disappointment, I've also removed one star.
I had take out from their dinner menu.
I had not visited this place since a year ago. Clearly they have added a sit down restaurant at which i had dinner with my family sometimes last year. For a sit down dinner i ate ice beans and a protein and dinner for 3 was $40. I did ordered a shrimp mofongo and that was ok. This place used to be a bargain before the sit down restaurant was in place. So tonight i had take out rice beans yuca and pollo guisado. I also ordered a pernil platter. I have to say their food taste good but not great and 2 dinner plates for $26 thats a lot of money for rice beans and protein. They gave me so much rice and very little pernil, before they used to include a free salad. I can only assume they no longer include it with the togo dinner. Its a shame because 3years ago when i first discovered this place it was a gem. Unfortunately that is no longer the case. When i got home, i realized the yuca was dried and hard, the pernil was ok but it seemed more like it was a kid size portion. Instead of being roasted it was like pulled pork due to sitting on the hot
buffet for so long.
The beans did not have much flavor. Overall i wont be returning. I will have to find another spanish restaurant around my way.
I have been here a few times and overall the food is ok. Depends on what your order. As well, if you get pork please ask for extra sauce because many times i have ordered it, it has been dry! The restaurant has improved. However, can be better.
After shopping at lake success i drove past this little Dominican spot. Grrrrrrreat combo prices and tasty food. Lunch and dinner specials. Rice maduros and ur choice of chicken, pernil, beef stew etc… Definitely give it a try.
This place is amazing! We ordered take out from here a couple of times and everything tastes great. It is like a giant party when the food arrives! Prices are very reasonable. We decided to visit the place for a sit down meal – the place is a hidden gem because my husband didn't think it was roomy inside. It is roomy indoors and very nicely decorated with a Latin feel. Nice tables and chairs with a good warm ambience. So happy we walked in here. I love how they painted the dining area. It is very welcoming. When you first walk in you will see the take out area and the dining area is in the next room. My husband ordered the Mofungo and he was not disappointed. I ordered the grilled shrimp and the meals came with rice and beans. All was delicious and nicely plated. They have mozzarella sticks for the kids too which my daughter ordered. My hubby just got allergies afterwards because of possible msg but that cannot be helped at times with certain ingredients.
This place is awesome!
Hubby and I came here this past weekend and ordered the oxtail (not available, so hubby had to get goat) and the fish. He got Spanish rice, while I got the rice and beans. We also got a side order of tostones.
The food was tasty and plentiful. At a little over $20 we felt this was a good price, considering the portion size and the area.
It's not an overly large place; there is communal seating available and the food is served "buffet" style — meaning nothing is made fresh; it all sits there in a warming tray, which is how these places usually operate so not an issue for us. Yes, service is somewhat slow, but again, this is a rather small operation.
It's hard to find really good Latin food in the area so this is a place that we will definitely come back and try the other items on their menus.
