Relatively quiet spot on a Saturday night, but not in an awkward manner. I saw lots of couples doing their own thing, while there is a room next to the dining area with more of an older crowd. A couple of TVs were showing the soccer game. The chicken nachos were delicious. Our waitress was super attentive.
A note-perfect recreation of the Tex-Mex restaurants that populate every suburb from Atlantic to Pacific, Don Pancho Villa offers Mexican-inspired fried fare in an atmosphere straight from a catalog. Walking along Grand Avenue this might appear to be some very-dry, norm-core joke on the neighborhood, but I can assure you after dining here that this is very real and very bad.
The flautas, which cost $10, are prepared as follows: cut a block of a cojita-type cheese in three. Wrap the chunk of cheese around a tortilla. Put in the oven for 30 seconds. Place on a plate with dry beans and flavorless, slightly brown rice. Serve.
There's cheap beer – $3 on happy hour and $5 all night on Tuesdays – but it's not cheap enough to put up with the depressing, listless atmosphere, horrendous music and bad food.
Oh, and they don't serve free chips and salsa.
My friend and I came here because we were in the mood for Mexican and in Williamsburg so we decided to give it a shot. We got there at 730 and they still had happy hour until 8 which was a plus because they had $5 margaritas!!!
It was a Wednesday and they were kinda busy but we got to be seated right away. Our server came over and gave us the menus (yes more than one) and took our cocktail orders. When he came back we decided to order a large order of the guac as an app, I got the steak tacos and my friend got the chicken quesidellas. The guac was sooo good, but I don't think the size of it was considered a large, it was small. My steak tacos were delicious. The chicken quesidellas was a good size portion and came with rice and beans on the side, so it was good as an entree.
Overall it was a great dinning experience, the service was good and the food tasted good. I will definitely return to try other menu options and for more margaritas!!
The plantain chicken was a little dry and needed some seasoning. The burrito was good and the delivery was quick
The food was delicious and very affordable. We came from Astoria, sick of the Mexican options and prices. We arrived and the place was pretty busy. Happy hour is from 5 to 8 so we got to cash in on some $5 mojitos and margaritas. They only had lime or passion fruit as flavor options for the happy hour specials. We ordered the ground beef nachos and guacamole with chips for appetizers. Both delicious. For entrees, we combined ordered chicken fajitas steak and ground beef enchiladas and the steak. Everything was good. Our waiter was friendly, although forgot one of my drinks until we reminded him. The four of us ate two of us had about three drinks each and the check was about 153 including tax and tip. Can't go wrong!
