Donatos Pizza

“Waiters wear formal garb, the tables all have tablecloths and candles.”

“Granted, I've never had their pizza, but when I lived in the city, this is one of the places that I would trek to Queens for.”

“Solid neighborhood joint with old school Italian food (think lasagna, pizza, chicken marsala etc).”

  1. Best pizza I've ever had in my life! I came to NYC for New Year's with the bf and went to visit his grandma. His grandma is Italian and always insists on feeding us. I'm glad she did because the pizza was incredible!

Living on the West Coast, I gave up on ordering pizza at most places when I went out, knowing I'd be disappointed. I'd hit up CPK every once in a while to satisfy a craving, but it just didn't always do it.

This place, the crust was thin, the sauce was PERFECT, there was just enough cheese without overdoing it, and just enough grease.

We got the pizza for takeout and it was delivered promptly, perhaps in even less time than they had quoted.

Maybe I'm naive and all pizza is this good in NY. I know that NY is known for having good pizza, but apparently I've been missing out. I think I'm going to have to save my pizza cravings for when I venture back to the East Coast…

  2. Went back while visiting family.  Food isn't bad, but for the price I expect more.

  3. Though I wasn't a fan of the pasta, the pizza is pretty good.

  4. I've been coming here more often since my last review and finally got to try their pizzas. For one, their pizzas definitely hit the spot, no doubt about it. I can rave about their Margarita Pizza all day because it is probably the most delicious pizza you'll ever have.

Garlic knots have kind of fell off in taste, and I don't feel that spark I felt when I was in the 6th grade. I only come here for their pizzas, but the only complain I have about them is how they operate–its odd. I can't really tell if they mostly want to be seen as a restaurant or as a pizza place, but I do think they're a bit smug about their popularity. They hardly sell their pizza by slices. Granted, they're quality pizzas, but if you have a small appetite you're not going to finish a medium pizza pie (which is the case for most of their pizzas, especially the margerita). Also, they're a bit difficult to deal with and they're not exactly very accomodating. Other than their customer service, I enjoy their pizza and it's one of Woodside's secret gems.

  5. This place is more than pizza. I get their linguine with vodka sauce it is pretty amazing. Super tasty and rich in cream and flavor. The bread is a nice touch. The fried calamari was soggy but still good. The second time I ordered here they mixed up my linguine with penne, but I mean I didn't even realize it until 85 percent of the food was gone. I was kinda sleep but it was still delicious enough for me to devour most of it before realizing haha. It is a pretty good deal for its location, woodside is a very low key area and it is great to see good restuarants maintaining it's presence here.

  6. Mmmm yummy!

We have only ordered take out from them so far… haven't been there yet, but definitely will because we are in the neighborhood!

The food is good… Italian comfort food… nothing fancy but still very satisfying.
Nicely sized proportions… and I gotta say… some of the most organized and thought out packaging when delieverd!!
Much appreciated… lots of places we have ordered from has half the sauce in the container and half in the bottom of the bag…

Love how the guy who takes the orders speaks little bits of Italian here and there!

And they even threw in some garlic knots for us!

Thanks Donato's! Definitely our new preferred Italian take-out place in the neighborhood!

  7. This is neighborhood Italian restaurant and it was recommended by my neighbors. The owner truly cares for his establishment and is very kind man but I was truly disappointed. I ordered fried calamari , baked ziti and wine. Waiter was not attentive whoever brought the calamari just grow the plate on the table. Calamari weren't done well they were chewy and not cooked well. I end up returning them. Baked ziti were OK. Bread and butter were served after main course was served and asked for it. There were six tables with patrons but didn't seem that staff can be attentive. I really don't think I'll return there.
Here is how I rate my experience:
