  1. I have been a loyal & faithful customer to Donna's Pizza for almost 30 years.

(And I can't say that about too many things in life, because I'm not yet 30.)

Their pizza is hands-down the best slice you'll ever get — on *both* sides of the Hudson. The Sicilian slice is complete heaven. And their catering service has some of the best Italian food you'll ever have the pleasure of eating. Eggplant Rollatini, Chicken Parm, Sausage & Peppers … oh. my. goodness. (They've catered about 25 years' worth of my birthday parties. Trust me on this.)

I can't say enough about the quality & authenticity of the food coming out of this kitchen. Donna's has long been a favorite of my family. And if any of my friends visit, asking for a "real" NYC slice, I'm bringing them here. If you're looking for quality pizza, you had better point your GPS in this direction.

This "preferential treatment" or bias or whatever is completely unfounded. I was debating whether or not to address it … I'm Asian, and my family & I have received nothing but exceptional, professional, and respectful treatment from both the employees & the owner of Donna's for, as I said before, at least 30 years.

  2. Donna is a good, solid local pizza joint that I go to regularly.  The slices are good, price is decent and most importantly their sauce is spot on which to me is the key to a good pizza.  I actually love their Calzones which are freaking delicious and monstrously huge which I never finish in one sitting.

As for the racism claims I don't see it at all.  I grew up all around New York around different people and cultures and my family was blue collar when I was growing up so I'm comfortable around anybody really.  The vibe at Donna is no different than any of the dozens and dozens of pizzerias I've eaten at over the years.

  3. The sicillian slice is the best! I would highly recommend it. The bread is soft and crunchy, the cheese is gooey and the flavor is just right!

The pizza pies here are just ok, they are way to greasy. Would not recomment them.

  4. Sometimes average is what you need.

I've always had below average pizza in Jersey.  Maybe it's cuz I'm from the city and I've had the best?  Eh.

This is long so scroll down to Pizza if you don't want to read my rant…

First,  let me get this out of the way, cuz it's important…. The first time I came here it felt weird. Like there was something thick in the air. People of color know what I'm talking about. The last time I felt this was was in Elk Head, Oklahoma.

Right, so I just got off the bus from the city and needed a bite.  The old guy at the counter was like,  whatever… couldn't be bothered, lil grizzly, lil Jersey "who the fuck is you" kinda swag. Didn't say a word to me, other then "2.75".  Talked to every other dude who walked in who was white and a few of them you could tell never been there.  I'm like, who cares. Grabbed my slice and sat down. Killed it. Went up and asked for a Sicilian. Same thing happened again. Left and started walking to my friend's house.  Now, this was the first time I'd ever been in this hood. And as I was walking I noticed that EVERYTHING on Broad Street was Korean. This was Korea town.  And THEN it made sense.

I'm one of those dudes who think there's a certain generation that just grew up racist and you gotta let it slide.  They aren't changing.  Ever see Do The Right Thing? That's what this place is.  Been there forever. Last man standing. It's his place. He's Sal, but not as nice. Maybe he was in the Vietnam war and it's like the war all over again for him every fucking day in this neighborhood. Whatever. Fuck him. Give me my slice. Who cares.

    THE PIZZA:

Good…enough.  A lil too doughy, but still good for what I needed – quick, satisfying and a relatively cheap, just like his wife. The Sicilian is better which is ironic because I'm not a Sicilian kinda guy.  I like my pizza like my women, super thin and sassy… I mean balanced with the right amount of sauce to cheese ratio that doesn't implode the crust with it's weight… Never had anything else on menu, but that's cuz I'm scared he'd spit in it.

    Verdict:

This guy has the only game in town! Why did everyone in DO THE RIGHT THING keep going back even though Sal and his one son were racist?  Cuz it was a good fucking slice ! Been going here every time I'm around this hood for 3 years now and he's still the same.  There's no other option!  Hey, as long as I can watch this guy heat up my slice and not spit in it, I'm good. Here's my money and I'm on my way. Thanks Sal! See ya next time you bitter bitch!  The end.

  5. I really don't know what people are raving about here… I wanted to use my $25 to support Donna's Pizza (for Amex's "Small Business Saturday") because of the other Yelp reviews.. But MEH!!! I really wish I went to Linwood Pizza in Fort Lee instead!

There was so much salt and grease on the sicilian pizza that I woke up incredibly parched… Very disappointed. Maybe this place does well because it's one of two pizzerias in all of Palisades Park?

  6. I have been coming here ever since I was born and the placed hasn't changed, which is actually GREAT to see in this town because everything has changed over the years.

The guy at the counter may look mean but he's not, he's just an old Italian man working, he cracks a smile here and there. There a big difference with looking rough around the edges and actually having an attitude problem. And from personal experience he has always been nice, doesn't say much but nice.

If your expecting a grand entrance for yourself the moment you walk in the door, it's not going to happen, however if you want the best Sicilian Slice this County has to offer, this is the place to be and that is what you will get! The other food here is okay, and the other slices of pizza and pies are average. But please do yourself a favor and try the Sicilian here, mint is out of this world!

The great thing about this place is that is is clean and has a nice little pizza area to dine in. Prices are also amazing! They also do take out and delivery and are fast with their service.

  7. I think this place was the first place I had pizza in America as a wee lad. Definitely one of the best pizza places in the area, but the prices have gone up quite a bit from what I remember it being. Overall quality is great and the portions are huge. They have legit Italian dishes and their sandwiches are good too. I honestly don't know where else I would go for pizza in the area.

  8. The guy who works here is an old douchebag and their pizza sucks but seems to have alot of business because there aren't any pizzerias around and has some sort of history to the name.  I'm sure this place was good 20 years ago when "Donna" wasn't an overweight light skinned Latino guy.
