Dorlan’s Tavern & Oyster Bar

“Dorlan's should probably take that descriptor off the menu and just say it's lobster mac and cheese.”

“The staff/owners are always friendly and the seafood based menu fits perfectly with the origins of the seaport.”

  1. My friend and I were walking around the Southstreet Seaport area trying to find a restaurant that wasn't overly crowded with tourists and also had lobster rolls.  We ventured into this place on a whim.  The dining room was casual and cute, albeit a bit dark.  Service was really friendly and the manager was walking around smiling and talking to tables.

I ordered the lobster roll and my friend got the shrimp po' boy.  My lobster roll was missing the side of coleslaw (I guess they were out?).  While the portion sizes were large, neither of our meals were that great.  My old bay chips had no distinct flavor other than oil and a hint of salt.  The lobster was overcooked and the bread was overpowering.  My friend ate only about 1/2 of her sandwich and didn't ask to take the remainder home, if that tells you anything.  Also, the pours on the alcohol were skimpy.

I hope our meals aren't a reflection of the food typically served here.  The food wasn't terrible, but you'd have to twist my arm to come back.

  2. Ok. I love this place but I hate being taken for a fool or witnessing my friends or family being taken for fools. Decided to get some drinks here 7/15/16 around 5:30. Place was almost empty to the point we had our choice of seats. I don't know what possessed my sister to order an Irish Coffee, but she did. I could tell by the reaction of the waitress this was not a normal request. So why not just say, "Sorry, we don't serve those."

My sister's Irish Coffee was pure coffee, in my humble opinion. To add insult to injury, it was not topped with cream. Wtf?!? When she asked about this the waitress offered to bring her half and half. She eventually came back with a little bottle with cream to pour into the drink and claimed that there was 2 and a 1/2 ounces of Jameson whiskey in the drink. Yeah right. I am quite familiar with Jameson whiskey and I beg to differ.

The waitress must have known we were pissed cause she certainly made herself scarce after that. Even after the busboy had cleared away our dishes and we were just sitting with the half glass of awful non Irish Coffee, still nothing. Really? Did she think the God-awful concoction was so good my sister was savoring it? Geez!

Then they had the nerve to charge us $11 for Jamesons. Really? What part of that abomination was Jamesons? To be fair, I think the fact that they did not put Irish Coffee on the receipt, is some petite acknowledgement of their falsehood. Of course, like I said, I don't think there was Jameson anywhere near that glass of coffee far less in it.

    Truly infuriating experience.

  3. Stopped in here not knowing what I was going to order…. I didn't want anything in particular, but I'm a sucker for anything lobster so I was really happy with the menu. I ended up getting two lobster rolls and a glass of wine. SO good!! Just as good as Luke's Lobster lobster and crab rolls. I would definitely recommend trying one.

I really want to try the oysters, but I think I need to come with someone else in case I don't like them. I'm looking forward to coming back soon and trying different things on the menu. Hopefully I'll be updating this review in a week or two!

  4. After a terrible experience somewhere nearby, my coworkers and I decided to come here for their oyster happy hour. They have "Rhode Island" and "New York" oysters. I prefer their NY oysters because there's more "meat." Out waitress was lovely, though I forgot her name. Let's call her Evita. Evita was humble and charming. She made our terrible experience beforehand go away instantly. Their oyster happy hour is a splendid deal: $15 for half a dozen AND a choice of beer or wine. I recommend oyster lovers to come check this place out. Aside from their oysters, I ordered a plate of chicken tenders. Their tenders are delicious. They had the right amount of crunch and tenderness. If you're tight on budget, like myself, order their oyster happy hour and chicken tenders. You will not regret it.

  5. Came here the weekend of storm Jonas as they were one of the only restaurants open and happen to be one of my favorite local spots. The place was packed but the staff went out of their way to be helpful and accommodating. I really can't say enough good things about this place. It has a very cozy friendly vibe. The drinks are good, the oysters are great and the mains are tasty and good portions. They were also very accommodating to my dairy intolerance and made the side in olive oil instead of butter.

  6. Was in the area for some Saturday events, and decided to pop in here to watch some of the one of the big horse races.  The sign outside was promising Mint Juleps for the occasion, so why not?

    I shouldn't have.

The Mint julep was quite sweet and didn't have wasn't very fragrant from the muddled mint and the mint was quite lost in every sip due to the overpowering sweetness.

The busboy behind the bar was very attentive though, I just wish the advertised drink was made in a better manner!
