  1. Ambience : This place is huge, and super packed.  Seems like a popular place.  Considering the type of place it is, definitely has enough space and isn't too loud.  Tbh, my table was probably the loudest in there haha  Very casual, and plenty of options for party sizes!

Service : The restaurant was very quick and nice to accommodate our large party of 10.  We were placed in the back of the restaurant due to size, but this was quite alright.  They never forgot about us, and it wasn't some dark dungeon or anything.  Our waitress.  Bless her soul.  I'll admit that our group was slightly rowdy at times, and pretty loud.  We also all redeemed check in offers (which I can imagine is a server's nightmare if they're not tipped reflecting free items).  She didn't (at least detectably by us) let anything phase her, and was all around amazing.  We really tried to tip her well bc she deserved it.  Fun fact : They don't have a CC limit per table.  When do you ever come across that??

    Food :
Prickly Pear Shot – This was the free check-in offer.  You know how when there is an open bar somewhere, and the drinks suck and are watered down?  I was expecting a free drink to be like that.  Oh my… I was wrong.  Super strong, blended margarita shot.  I actually gave it away because I couldn't handle it, but I can very much appreciate that they don't skimp out on anything, even when it doesn't technically benefit them.
Street Corn – I.LOVE.THIS.CORN.  I was craving corn.  The last time I had corn that made me leave wanting more was from Cafe Habana.  But man, this stuff was GOOD.  I really really like how they gave the option of having it off the cob as well.  Wonderful flavor, and a great kick.  Get it. You won't regret it.
Sweet Plantains – Noms.  Simple, but amazing.  Nice and warm, slightly crispy, and the sugar from the plantains was nicely caramelized.

I'll very likely come back at some point in my next two years here.  Service really goes a long way, and again.  That corn.

  2. You know, I've been to Dos Caminos in Meatpacking and UES and the Park Ave location was definitely the worst.

My naked fish tacos had uncooked quinoa. The drinks were too sweet and lacked pizzazz.

Having said that, I was with great company.

I'm STILL a fan of Dos Caminos… But in the future, I'll stick to the Meatpacking location for post or pre-Whitney museum outings.

  3. This place is probably good to come to after work if you're nearby.  If not, it's really large and loud and on the more expensive side.  I came here for dinner with one other person and the space definitely felt large and impersonal.  Food was solid, nothing amazing but not bad.  The waitstaff was great!  I would recommend this place for a party or larger group or even dinner with kids since noise is ok, wouldn't recommend for a more intimate dinner.

  4. Came here for my birthday celebration.
We were seated immediately upon arrival, and the service was quick and attentive. The food here was delicious! I would definitely come again.

  5. Good-but-overpriced food, but terrible service and ok-but-overpriced drinks.

I came here on cinco de mayo with a reservation. It took me 10 minutes to make it to the hostess booth, which is set back behind the bar area, to check in because of the huge crowd of people that were unwilling to move to let me by. Finally I checked in for my 9pm reservation at 9:08. The hostess marked me down as "arrived" but said "we don't physically have any tables now so you'll need to wait". What was the point of my reservation then? It reminded me of that Seinfeld episode.

Then the hostess started seating groups that checked in after us. After we saw this happen twice one of my friends approached the hostess and said we had been waiting almost 20 minutes now past our reservation time. The hostess didn't really offer any help, just said, "a lot of groups just walked in, hold on", and proceeded to again seat 2 or 3 more groups of people that were then checking in for 9:30 reservations!! Finally around 9:30 we were seated.

I got the frozen prickly pear margarita, which was strong and tasted good, but in my opinion not worth $13. It was just an average marg to me. The food was also good, we got the guacamole and taquitos, but they were really overpriced as well. A plate with 2 little taquitos was $11! Each taquito was about 3 bites of food.

Our waitress was also pretty slow. It took us about 30 min to get the check and pay once we were done eating.

I was willing to give Dos Caminos the benefit of the doubt and say that cinco de mayo is their busiest day and they were overwhelmed, but other people I know that have been there on non-holidays and have had a similar experience. Since hearing that, I've decided I wont be back here.

  6. Came here with a friend. We had the fish tacos, which were the special dish of the day. I was slightly disappointed and expected more. They were soft tacos but got hard over a short period of time. The rice and beans that it came with was rather tasty but, nothing to rave about. I've also heard the drinks were good here but, I didn't try any on this visit. Don't know if I'll be coming back here. For dessert we had a cappuccino which was also pretty good, but again, nothing to go crazy over. I've had much better Mexican food before. However, I will say that the guacamole and chips were yummy! It was fresh and they gave you three different salsas ; mild, medium, and hot.
My favorite thing about this place was the decor. It was very, very pretty with the lanterns hanging from the ceiling.

  7. It's hard to believe but I made it my entire life without ever having a taco. I think that the idea of what a taco was came from the fast food pictures with the greasy drippy mystery meat and I wasn't interested. So when my boyfriend said that he wanted tacos I was hesitant but I went along for the ride anyway.

I am so glad that I did and that he picked Dos Caminos! I have walked by DC a million times and always felt bad for the people eating what I thought were the drippy tacos with the mystery meat. Not anymore. We ordered the sampler taco tour plate which gives you eight tacos in four styles.

Here are my completely arbitrary rankings on the order that I liked the four: 1) my favorite was the fish taco. I don't even like fish. Fish is slimy and weird. These fish tacos were outstanding. The fish part was firm and the sauce that this taco came with was perfect. Just the right spice. 2) the pork taco was next in favorite. The meat was tender and flavorful and there were pickled vegetables which helped with flavor. These were not too spicy. 3) the steak taco. Talk about soft flavorful meat. This one was delicious because the meat wasn't tough and the cheese that it came with had a sweetness that balanced it out. 4) the chicken. The only reason why chicken was last was because it was SPICY.  I'm not an adventurous spice eater and these were high in heat level. Keep in mind, they were fantastic. Just expect some heat. All in all an epic meal for a first time taco experience.

We also got the Mexican city street corn and that was delicious. Probably not worth the 7$ price tag when you can get the same at the street fair for 3 but what could you do? I liked it.

We also got dessert. The warm cake. This was fantastic because the center tasted like citrus. Orange maybe which was a delightful surprise. I'm really glad that I live close to DC because I can make this place a regular stop.

  8. Fun, trendy, casual spot on Park Ave. I've heard tons of good things about this place so I picked this spot for dinner and drinks with a friend after work. I was able to make a 6:15 reservation for us through Open Table and we were seated less than a minute after walking in. I was a little bummed that I didn't know about their Happy Hour on weekdays til 6:30, but all the more reason to come back!

Service here was actually really great, which can be rare to find these days. Our server was super friendly and attentive- he took care of us, suggesting their best margaritas and dishes for us to share. Went for their Traditional guac, Oaxacan-Style Shrimp Quesadillas, and Plantain Empanadas. All three dishes lived up to the hype, we just wish we could've finished it all. My best advice is to do what we did and share an entree since the portions are quite generous!
