I've only had Dos Toros three times so far — but it hasn't disappointed me! I know the classic comparison will be to Chipotle, but I think this place is slightly different. To me, Chipotle has a very familiar (AND DAMN GOOD) taste and Dos Toros has a more homemade feel to it. The tortilla here, in my opinion, is MUCH better than Chipotle's. It's softer, has better texture, and they put slices of cheese inside..mm
I don't think I've tried the other meats yet, but the Carnitas (pork) here is great! Guac IS extra, but only 92 cents extra 😉 😉 😉 TOTAL STEAL!! Come here for a different fast mexican food experience than Chipotle. Would recommend!
Came here on a Monday night for a quick bite to eat. I got the chicken plato. It was perfectly prepared. FRESH! Washed it down with a Corona all for $11. Not too bad.
I came to the states in 2010, and taco bell burritos were all I had known prior. I was introduced to this place as "like Chipotle", but I didn't even know what Chipotle was. So, yes, this was my first experience the new "burrito bowl".
My first impression was, "so much meat and no greens?" This place stuffed the burrito with proteins in very generous amounts. One third of the burrito will satisfy me, but I usually end up eating half of the burrito and packing the other half for later meal.
This place has limited seatings but seats open up pretty quick. I never had to wait more than 5 minutes. If not, you can always take it to the nearby park to enjoy, if the weather is promising.
I've been seeing the restaurant opening in multiple other locations within the city, which I am excited about.
Dos Toros is fancy-NYC Chipotle. Nice having this as an option when you're in the hankering for California-"Mexican" style food. This place has been around for so many years, it's definitely time-tested deliciousness. Always a good, fast, cheap eat if you're in the area.
Before going to movie theatre, we were looking for a quick bite around so here we were. I've always had prejudices towards Mexican food since it always has this spicy and hot food impression but thanks to Dos Toros I'm over it.
It is a fast food spot with beers basically. You order while on line and eat there if any seats available. We got one chicken, one steak burrito. I got black beans, rice and guacamole – kind of plain but it was soooo filling! They have Mexican beer and Corona. $2-$5. Burritos are $7 to $ 9.
I got stomach ache till morning, I'm not sure if it was because I ate a lot or the beans bothered me but no regrets 🙂 i'll do it again. I want to try tacos and the platos and everything else 🙂
They have some other locations around the city fyi.
Better version of chipotle in my opinion, I had the carnitas burrito when I came here and was impressed with it. the burritos aren't too big and the ingredients are much better than their rivals, I love that you can get red rice and not just white. highly recommended anyone to try their burritos when they are in town. I hope one day they bring dos torros to California because I truly enjoyed it.
Always been a Chiptole fan but this was my first time trying Dos Toros. DT has better rice and tortilla. Gamechanger is definitely their $0.92 extra for gauc whereas Chipotle's is like $3 extra. They served me up a pretty fat burrito so I was content. Carnitas were good. Also felt like DT's burrito in general was a bit saltier than Chiptole's. Also their mild sauce is very very milk
I cringed when I read reviews comparing Dos Toros to Chipotle. Why? The quality at Dos is definitely better and the quantity is more abundant.
I opted for the pork and chicken tacos, as I've been trying various taco places across the city.
The chicken for me personally was far more charred than I preferred. It almost tasted burnt.
The pork on the other hand felt like it was missing some sort of sauce that could have really disguised some of the dry pieces I received.
All in all, I wasn't impressed with my tacos. Were they good? Kind-of. Will I be back to try other options on their menu? Most definitely.
My next visit, I need to try a bowl.
