  1. Thank God. After 5 years part-time in NYC and now a New Yorker 8 months a year, I am overjoyed to have cheap /fast Mexican near me!

When I read website, I was hopeful: this is a CA operation. Why people have been unable east of the Mississippi to figure out a basic taco baffles me. You can get upscale Mexican in Manhattan. Good luck finding two tacos for 10 bucks anywhere except the Union Sq taco truck (which is Peruvian and phenomenal).

The minute I walked in I knew it was going to be good. I wasn't prepared for off-the-hook great homemade tortillas. Wow. Really good.

It's a simple menu and you cannot get, say, extra cilantro. Or ice. That's odd. So if you want a soda, make sure you ask them to grab one from back of fridge.

Cheap beer too: Tecate (2.76) and Corona/Pacifico (4.13).

They have three salsas only: mild, medium, and set your mouth on fire. I recommend the medium with a splash of fire.

The carne asada is tender and flavorful.  I asked which was better, the chicken or carnitas, and while I am not big on pork, her resounding vote for carnitas convinced me to go with that. Boy was she right. Spectacular.

Guacamole is fine. Not, as one reviewer said, "amazing." Bless her heart, she's probably from Manhattan, where the only great guacamole is made tableside and 15 for three or four (Rosa Mexicano). Or 10-11 for table at Mexico Lindo.

Two fresh high-quality tacos and a Diet Coke for 12 bucks? Hell yes.

I am only 8 number blocks up so this is a great find.

  2. Today was my first time every going to a Dos Toros. I was told by the coworker who brought me here it is like a better quality chipotle. I ordered the pollo asado salad because I'm trying to eat healthier.  It is the same set up as chipotle so you choose what you want and walk down the line and they make in front of you. I was pleased with the quality, taste, and price of the food and I would definitely go back again but next time I am going to a burrito!

  3. Came here on a beautiful night in June, they had the doors open.  Great to dine in the open air.  Limited seating. Friendly staff. Everything is fresh and prices are good. They have gluten free options but all made in same area so it's up to you.

  4. If you don't remember the South Park episode about "chipotlaway", go youtube that isht right now.  Yes, that's how millions of Americans feel about Chipotle at this very moment.  But never fear, in swoops Dos Toros to fill the burrito void left in your stomach.

Honestly, you could swap out the signs, and I wouldn't be able to tell the difference.  Same menu, same schtick about grass fed, naturally raised blah blah blah, same expensive overpriced tacos, but minus the bleeding diarrhea.  The toppings that make this different:  Green peppers and onions. I like 'em on pizza, and I'll be damned… I like 'em on burritos too.

    They got my lunch business.

  5. I'm so glad we have a better Chipotle type place where I can grab and go. According to my friend, Dos has better meat yet worse rice so I opted for chicken salad instead. It was also very easy to build up a healthy version so I like it a lot.

No crazy line as of 11:45 on weekday. Will be back often when I'm craving for Mexican food as today.

  6. This has officially replaced Chipotle in my heart and stomach.

While I typically don't like buying burritos (I tend to spend my money on food that I can't make myself–healthy burritos are pretty easy to make!), the lunch I had here was worth it. Came here on a weekday lunch, and it was filled with others who work in the area. The line was almost to the door, but moved very quickly. The first time, I ordered a quesadilla based on suggestion from my co-worker. This was basically a very large burrito, squashed like a quesadilla–very very large, and crispy skin for those who don't like burritos! But it was pretty difficult to eat. The second time I ordered a very large burrito—delicious!! They stuff it full of rice, beans, meat, salsa (I tried both mild and medium, and medium has a pretty subtle kick to it), so that you feel completely stuffed (and a little gross if not used to eating so much) afterwards. Remember that adding guac is an extra 92 cents.
Not sure on how fresh the ingredients are?? Definitely doesn't feel as "light' and "springy" as my Chipotle bowls are..but, that's the magic of this place.

If I ever feel like being lazy and splurging a little on a very large burrito, this is the place I would go from now on.

  7. I travelled from TriBeCa (work) to here for lunch and since it was the initial opening, understandable long line. It really didn't take long, the way this location is set up…the line splits into two, making it for a quicker and smoother experience. I ordered the carne asada Plato and oh my god!! I usually don't get steak (lol I'm a chicken person) but this meal had me scrapping at the left over rice wanting some more lmao. This was well worth the wait and travel, I hope this location thrive hard and continue making meals like this at a high quality…New Yorkers go get your $1 meal for only today's opening 1/19/16

  8. Grand Opening!

Ever since 2013, when Qdoba and Taco Bell closed their doors, it basically left Chipotle, as the sole Mexican fast food option in the area, but alas, Dos Toros opened today.

As I walked across the street I heard an employee shooting $1 Burritos today, Grand opening, Grand opening, I decided it would be worth the wait, despite the frígid temperature. The líne was long, but the wait was short.

I ordered a carne asada (steak) burrito and nachos. The burrito was excellent and didn't break apart when picked up, unlike Chipotle. The nachos weren't the best, but that's quite alright .

Overall, I am very pleased with this business opening up. Finally, we have an alternative to Chipotle in the area.

P.S. They will begin delivering soon, but not quite yet, as per, the HR rep on hand.
