Great new Latin restaurant in Williamsburg. The flavors originate from the Dominican Republic… for those who are Dominican, you know that means a full-bodied experience for your palate.
I went on a Saturday night and sat at the bar. I was quickly greeted with a smile and provided a menu. I ordered the skirt steak which was more on the well done side than my liking – I ordered medium well. It was too chewy to finish but the flavors were there. They do not have a chimichurri sauce yet, but chef Leonel said it is in the works. My boyfriend ordered the chicken and shrimp which was juicy and well-seasoned. Our sides were the same, mash potato, a rolled up sweet plantain with a slice of melted cheese on top, and steamed veggies (broccoli, carrots, peppers). The mash was served cold and typical in flavor. The sweet plantain was delicious and not greasy, but I wasn't a fan of the slice of cheese on top. (maybe grated parmesan cheese would be better). I also had a long fried plantain stick in my mash which was perfectly crispy. I honestly believe my mash was cold because of the plate prep – it was executed with precision and flair.
Along with the meal, I sipped on red wine and listened to fun Latin music from the live DJ. The music was upbeat and the sound was awesome.
All in all, lively restaurant with ample seating and bar space… attentive staff… average prices for the ever-growing neighborhood. Definitely worth another visit!
