  1. AWESOME PLACE!  I grew up with home-made South Indian food and so I know good quality.  This place has super tasty, super authentic dosas and idli.  Try the Madras special to try both (and only make a $9 dent in your wallet).

Also, the service is great and the place is spacious (and plays great new Bollywood tracks).  Try the rasa malai (imagine tres leches with cardamon, pistachiosm, and rose water) and of course the Indian beers (Kingfisher/Taj).

  2. Dosas are SO fun.

At Dosa Delight, you have a choice of getting them plain or filled. The plain ones are light, crispy, and curled to length of my arm! The filled ones are stuffed with potato and spices. Either are delicious (although the filled ones may be too many carbs on carbs for me to fully appreciate.)

Whatever your choice of dosa, remember to slather copious amounts of the coconut chutney on top. It's refreshing and unmistakably coconutty! YEAH!

What's not so fun is that they're noticeably vegetarian… and I often need another meal shortly after…

  3. The short: really good food, incredibly bad service. Would not return

The details: group of four of us went on a Sunday night. Very busy but we got seated right away and given menus. A little bit of a wait to give our orders. Very busy and very under-staffed. Finally ordered. We were given the wrong appetizer- it was for the table next to us. Very chaotic atmosphere with a lot of angry customers.
We got the pani puri, dahi vada and papri chaat to start- all delicious, especially the papri chaat. We got the Pondicherry dosa and spinach masala dosa- both were really good. We all ordered lassis and never received them. We got water once and the cups were never refilled. By the end of the meal, we decided not to get the Lassis anymore and got tea, falooda and gulab jamun. Incredibly long wait for the tea. We waited at least another half hour for gulab jamun and we asked 3 people before we finally got it.
Extremely disorganized and very understaffed. Would never return again because of the horrendous service. Sucks that the food was actually good.

  4. I went in for some dosa and vada pao. They have a lot of different varieties of dosa but I choose the regular "Masala Dosa". It was really good, had perfect flavor and right amount of potatoes in it. The sambhar served with it was good too but the coconut chutney was average. I didn't like the vada pao, it was not as great as it looked and was super oily. I tried to take the oil off using the tissue but there was still a lot of oil in it.
I would definitely like to go back to try other varieties of dosa. The staff was friendly, service was fairly quick and the prices are reasonable. Three stars just for the dosa.

  5. I almost didn't come here based on the poor Yelp reviews, but I'm so glad I overlooked that as I'd heard the food was super delicious here and the only problem might be some customer service issues. I'm pretty patient when eating out and in fact don't like to be rushed so I figured even if it was bad I could deal with it. On all fronts, I was pleasantly surprised.

Came here at around 7 pm on a Friday night with my boyfriend and we had great service. Everyone was super friendly and attentive when we needed them to be, but not overbearing. Our server recommended some great plates that were so delicious and big. The dosas here are HUGE and the food came out super fast. True, there were only a few tables filled at the place, but still worth noting.

I also LOVE that they mark on their menu which plates are vegan or which can be veganized. Makes it so easy to choose and not have to bother the server about what is in everything.

Also, the prices here are amazing. We had 2 appetizers and 2 entrees and the total bill came to $27. Yes!!

Only reason this doesn't get 5 stars is because of the decor. With some small improvements they could really make this place more inviting, but the harsh lights and bad white floor make it feel a little like a cafeteria. Then again, if it was fancier, it'd probably be pricier.

All in all, I'll definitely be back to try more off their extensive menu!

  6. Yummy dosas, great price point, and always clean, Dosa Delight is a great place for a quick and cheap eat . I typically get a dosa when I go (I'm a fan of the butter masala dosa) but have tried the thalis (a large plate of many little dishes, think of a platter of tapas) as well and have left a happy customer. Though I haven't ordered any while there, they also offer alcohol which is rare in the Jackson Heights area.

The staff at Dosa Delight is also a plus, as they walk the line between neglectful and helicopter waiters with finesse.

The only complaint I have is that their bathrooms are not that clean. I've been to a lot of restaurants in the area and I do think they're above average but the bar is set pretty low so that's not saying much.

  7. It was good and well I love dosas. I had the Pondicherry dosa and she had veggie biryani and we split a veggie thali. I liked everything. It was tasty, savory and just spicy enough. It got an A health rating which is always great. But I'll de firefly return. I usually head into Murray Hill when I want a dosa and this is much closer.

  8. I am not fond of restaurants at Jackson Heights coz usually they all taste the same and suffer from the same hygiene issues. But this place is better than the rest. Their dining area is fairly clean and their menu is extensive with both South Indian and North Indian dishes. We started off our meal with idli n sambhar which was ok. Next we ordered their popular chili paneer dosa and Rava masala dosa. Personally, I liked their Rava masala dosa over the paneer one. It was crisp, tasty n less oily. The filter coffee was a bit of disappointment. But overall an ok place to eat!
