I had to bump up my review to 5 stars because as expected, I've had to come here over a dozen times since writing the initial review.
Yes, the service did improve greatly. No more long waits! Yay!! Yes, the food is still good. The fried Mac and cheese bites are delicious. Don't ask how many times I was brought here just for that dish. The beer selection is still good. The bathrooms are kept clean for the most part, which is very important to us ladies. It still gets busy and crowded during peak hours but it is what it is. To beat the crowd, I suggest you get a table with your friends if you arrive early enough.
All in all, while the crowd it attracts is still the same, the Dram Shop is a fun place to be at during the weekend, after work, or just to watch a game on one of their many TVs. 🙂
For years, people have been telling me that Dram Shop has one of the best burgers in Brooklyn. And you know what? It's pretty damn good.
Let's just start out with the fact that their standard burger has two patties. You can ask for a single and take off a dollar, but what are you, a loser?
You can also go the opposite direction and make it a triple for another dollar. American cheese is free, but cheddar or Bleu cheese is a dollar extra, and so are sauces. It all adds up, and that $13.50 burger ain't $13.50 no more.
Anyway, the patties are thin, so basically medium is the rarest you can get it. No problem, because they were bursting with flavor.
They also give you a crap ton of fries, so splurge and pay the extra dollar for a sauce. I did the chipotle mayo and never once regretted it.
They have a good beers on tap and a great whiskey selection.
Good place to watch a game, and they have these giant square booths that are like being in a limo. It's weird. I also was wasted when I made this realization.
Anyway, go to Dram Shop.
When we first got there, we were confused as to where to go because there is no hostess or even anyone to point us in the direction we should go. The place was packed and we waited for a table for about 45 minutes (when a waitress had told us 10 minutes). When we finally got a table, we were rudely interrupted by that same waitress (who told us there was a 10 minute wait) and were told that table was reserved. She had an attitude problem and started arguing with one of my friends. She was being rude on purpose and looked like she was trying so hard to contain her laughter due to the fact we waited so long for a reserved table. THANKS FOR TELLING US.
Nonetheless, we got a table minutes after we left that one. The food was good but it made me full really quick due to the excessive amount of oil in it. I got the roast pork sandwich and I could see the oil on my plate, which is unpleasant. The hand-cut fries are nicely salted and delicious. Service was friendly, minus that one extremely rude waitress. Ambience was that of a dive bar. Overall, it has the works of being a nice bar. There just seems to be a lack of communication from the waitresses/waiters.
I came here for a quick dinner on a Tuesday night. It wasn't too crowded. They have large booths that can fit a lot of people, which was cool. They also have many beers on draft. My boyfriend and I ordered buffalo wings to share, which were good. I ordered the grilled cheese with bacon. It had apples in it. I like it a lot. My boyfriend had a double cheeseburger with bacon and avocado. The burger was huge but he enjoyed it. The fries were crunchy. Good service. I would definitely return.
The dram platter was definitely worth it. 6 wings, 4 fried Mac and cheese balls, a cheeseburger. Yum! Everything was delicious especially the fried Mac and cheese balls. The BBQ wings were really good to me but the buffalo wings were just ok to my boyfriend. I love love love the hand cut fries, all were crunchy and that's the way I like it! There was an abundant amount of fries which was pretty awesome! The hamburger was a bit too much for me, it had 2 layers of beef, and it kind of tasted like a Big Mac. But that's bar food for you!
Ordered the fries to go, and they dumped them in a bag. I walked around Brooklyn with a big, greasy bag of Dram Shop fries. I snacked on those salty, starchy fried potato buds for blocks and blocks, until I reached the Bell House. They wouldn't let me bring in outside food. I stuck my hand back into the paper bag, now translucent with delicious french fry grease, and pulled out one last fistful of Dram Shop fries. They serve you a lot of them. In a bag.
solid neighborhood bar… Good wings… good burgers… good draft beer list.
and, most importantly – SHUFFLEBOARD!!
So me and Dram have been friends for a number of years. I first fell in love with that burger and it kept me coming back but then it lost its luster for me. Do not get me wrong it is a good burger but like with everything in life it gets boring and so I took a break for a bit but found myself back like a zombie walking prospect park aimlessly. last night though, I fell in love again and it wasn't with the burger but the new "chick" in town as they added a buttermilk fried chicken sandwich with coleslaw ( optional BBQ). OMG, take my money! that sandwich was amazing. Fries were on point too with a couple of sweet actions to wash it down and this little piggy went home satisfied. I have found a new love and her first name is Buttermilk.
