So sitting at home and it's raining cats and dogs outside…. do I stay in or do I go out? I stay in… I don't care if it's Saturday night. It's that kind of weekend. I go on Seamless and this place pops up. I've never seen it in my delivery area before and it had a Seamless four-stars. Let's check it out…
Food-
spicy crunchy tuna roll – awesome
rock shrimp avocado roll – awesome
seaweed salad – little on the sweet side
miso soup – way too bland
Since this is for sushi, I'm ignoring the rest and giving it a two thumbs up on their sushi! It was awesome and I would order from them again.
Since Knockdown Center has opened, and they have no liquor license, quite a few folks flocked here recently looking for alcohol.
We ordered the hot sake, which was not too acidic, so that was a nice surprise. We also ordered spring rolls, which ended up being quite yummy, and a perfect snack before heading to the show.
It's in such a random location, across from a Jewish cemetery, but if you're a local, I bet this a decent go-to place.
"Meh."
Hit or miss. Prices are a tad expensive for the quality. I've ordered delivery from here countless times but Drunken Fish doesn't leave me particularly enthusiastic – I would likely not find myself gushing to someone about how good their food is. While it satisfies my sushi cravings in the moment I can't really say it's worth the money or leaves me salivating at the prospect of my next order. I've had a couple of chewy pieces of fish (As in: I had to spit it out.) that really turned me off leading me back on the search for a go-to delivery spot.
While I appreciate their offering of hand rolls (Side-note: If you own a sushi restaurant and you do not offer hand rolls you should shut down immediately.) the seaweed is pretty tough to chew through making the process of consuming it a bit of a mess. Also doesn't have that nice toasted flavor that some hand rolls do – Could have something to do with the texture. I should also mention: Skip the tempura if you're going the vegetarian route. Vegetable tempura delivered is *very* disappointing. Soggy, greasy, just sad.
I have only ordered delivery from here and have not gone into or seen the actual restaurant. THey must have a large delivery area, since they are in Ridgewood and deliver to where i live, nearly in Bushwick . The sashimi and sushi are th real shining stars here. The best delivery sushi I have had in Brooklyn for sure. The rolls are good and hand rolls are awesome. I have tried the seafood udon as well, which was great for the 9 dollar lunch price. Delivery is free for over ten bucks and it is pretty fast too.
It had been a little while since I used Seamless, so they sent me a coupon code to lure me back in. It's almost as if they knew that I was exhausted from the morning and I was perfectly susceptible to bribery in the form of staying indoors. There is a delivery minimum so I got more than one could possibly eat in one sitting. The Vegetable Pad Thai ($8.00) came with either miso soup or a salad on the lunch special. That is a very good deal. They also gave me both soup and salad, so it was a great deal! Not sure how that happened, but whatevs.
For sushi starters, I ordered a sushi trio of the Avocado Cream Cheese Jalapeño Roll, Spinach Roll & Peanuts Avocado Roll ($13) which is also a great deal for three rolls. I couldn't really taste the jalapenos. Normally, I'm out of commission for a few minutes with those things. I was actually a little hesitant to order this combo because of it, but it wasn't a problem (phew).
Everything was packaged nicely and arrived within the anticipated time frame. The only thing that threw me off a little was the delivery guy. He buzzed the door for my apt, I buzzed the door and said "Come on up." He buzzed again, as if to indicate he wasn't bringing it to my door. Fine. I'll come down and get it.
But then when I got down there he started angrily yelling at me "I get ticket. I get ticket." Meanwhile, I can see his car and there is no ticket on it. Plus, he was standing right there the whole time so I don't see how that is possible. I'm not sure if he was trying to tell me that he WOULD get a ticket if he came to my door, or that he had already received a ticket to try to get an extra tip (which I had already included several dollars for the tip through Seamless)…. or what. Dude, you're a delivery service. You deliver stuff. I don't tell you where to park, and frankly, I didn't even make you walk it to my door. I half-delivered it myself. Chill out. It was kind of hard to enjoy my food after being verbally accosted by this guy.
