DTUT
“Atmosphere was dark but intimate, with high tables at the front where you could sit on stools or couches in the back to recline on.”
“They also serve table side smores that you make yourself over an open flame and both savory + sweet fondues.”
“As their name stands for Downtown Uptown they have really perfected the downtown vibe right up here on the upper part of Manhattan.”

I really can't give DTUT enough praise. If I could give it six stars I would. It's by far the coolest place I've found in NYC that is both a cafe and a bar. I first went there for a reading, and I loved that one side of the room there was a small living room set up with couches, and coffee tables. It's the perfect place to read. Then on the other side, it's the perfect place for a date with dim lighting and candles on the table. I might sound odd but it's truly great. I love the staff as well. It's definitely a place every New Yorker must check out!
This is a super dope coffee house, a dying breed indeed.
I'm guilty of living around the corner of this coffee house and not being a regular here although I've been once before!
I recently stopped by to get some work done (I'm much more productive when I'm not sitting on my couch) and was pleasantly surprised how much the place has changed. The bar has a new location, and everything is just so much more comfortable. I was pleased to see they have an awesome happy hour that includes $5 drinks and starts early, but I settled on a cappuccino. I sat and although I was pleased when the barista brought my cappuccino to me (no pressure to pay immediately) I was not pleased with the quality of the cappuccino which is why I wouldn't recommend this spot for coffee. The espresso just wasn't good but they brew Irving Farm Coffee Roasters which is usually good.
And although I needed wifi to get some work done, I was forced to just relax and sip my coffee due to their "no wifi after 5PM" rule. I respect the rule. They've managed to create an awesome coffeehouse vibe, conducive to conversation. There were lots of people, solo and otherwise, partaking in the happy hour or just chilling with coffee. Lots of conversation happening which was awesome to see– the exact opposite of any Starbucks.
Would I recommend this spot to get work done? No, not after 5PM. But would I recommend this spot overall? Hell yes. Come solo or with a friend, grab a glass of wine and chat away!
Great place with a cool atmosphere! It gets crowded fast after work hours, so be prepared. I'll come back at happy hour and to try their fondue.
Haven't been here for the bar portion but love the coffee shop version during the day. Best espresso in the UES.
I wanted to hate this place. I mean, it really has all the right ingredients to bring out my ire. It is ultra hip. There is an old record player. It screams "this is a hip downtown place" The intentionality looks off the chart.
I went in sporting my "I'm too good for this shit" sneer. Irving Farms coffee. Hmmm ok. Well, that's a nice touch, but I am undeterred in my readiness to hate this place. Well, a small menu of nice little sandwiches and a quiche that was really tasty. Nope! I am going to hate this place damn it.
Friendly service. Oh no, you are not fooling me! I came in here to hate. Really nice seating. Ok, well, that's kind of cool. Oh, and a full bar. Hmmm….no, no, I refuse to like this….wait, is that bob dylan's tangled up in blue playing…no, I will hate it. Look at this sign. No wifi after 5 pm and on weekends. Let me ask what that is all about.
Oh, it's about giving people a chance to get out of their insulated internet tunnel and have some social interaction. Wow. Ok good answer.
Shit. Ok. Fine. This place is like totally awesome. Everything about it is right. I already want to go back.
You win DTUT, you win.
Awesome chill spot for a big group! Love the area by the big screen – they have couches and tables and a load of games to play (Jenga, Cards, Cards for Humanity, Connect4) Sunday nights they play Game of Thrones! Wasn't too crowded and drinks were good!
Cool and comfy ambience. I had always noticed this place when I used to live around the corner and now that I've been away, I've been missing my old hood. Plus, I was in the area signing up for free memberships along museum mile with my idNYC and was craving s'mores so I caught up with a friend who lives nearby there on a cold winter evening. The servers were really nice guys and the self serve concept is easy. The place just gets packed with people reading, doing work on their laptops and stuff. So there are tables for 4 that have one person on it. Get used to sharing with strangers. Next time I'll order the cheese fondue and play some scrabble. They have other games like Jenga and other board games. Definitely a place you can regularly go to.
This place reminds me of Austin….sigh nostalgia…it has hipster vibes and plenty of stool seating area at the bar, tables, and windows. The coffee is a little pricy but nothing out of the ordinary in terms of espresso drinks (which is pretty overpriced everywhere). Music is kind of annoying and I looked and didn't see any outlets nearby. But if you have well charged electronics, it's a perfectly nice place to work and several people including me had their laptops out. Wifi is fast but apparently not offered after 5 pm. I came here in the morning so this didn't really affect me.
