this Duane Reade is AWFUL. It is conveniently located near my work but I will never be back. I went there this morning asking for two simple items- blank stationary and paper cups. The first member of staff I spoke with was very unfriendly. After having no luck searching for the blank stationary in the card aisle, I politely asked her where it was and told her I had bought it at other Duane Reades before. She barked "we dont have it," and did not even bother to check for me/see if another store had it in stock. I asked where the paper cups were and she said aisle 7. When they were not there, I asked another staff member who was also very rude and said " well if its not there its not in the store." Again, no offer to check in the back/contact another duane reade…anything! I do not understand why these employees think being blatantly rude to a customer is ok.
I happen to work nearby, so this Duane Reade is at a very convenient location for me. However, many items oftentimes aren't in stock. Contrary to other reviewers, I find the staff here very friendly. They're usually very willing to check prices for me. I'm always greeted with a smile and asked if I need help. I also enjoy going to this Duane Reade, as they have many clearance items such as shampoo, lotions, etc. Also, there is no longer a security guard here. While I was shopping here one day, there was a robbery. I guess a man grabbed items and ran out, but they were unable to catch him. There hasn't been a security guard here since. I suppose he got fired for not being able to do his job. Personally, I'm glad he's gone. He wasn't friendly and I always felt uncomfortable from his stares while shopping in the store.
Messy inventory, security guard is a jerk, and they don't have Virgin Mobile prepaid top up cards. It's a great location. It's right outside of the train station, bus stop, and Bally Total Fitness. I rather take a longer walk to 71st Continental to the other Duane Reade that opens 24 hours.
