Not a bad Duane Reade…all the stuff you need is downstairs, upstairs is only food.
The space for a line is small but the cashiers seem pretty efficient. Last time I was there, I was able to get everything I needed and got a sweet discount using my Duane Reade card!
In winter, I'd hate to work there because this is a very windy corner and there are doors on both 58th St and 8th Avenue. When they are opened, the wind howls through the upstairs of the store like a scirocco (the wind, not the Volkswagen).
It's not quite as tidy as the one on 53rd St, but it'll do in a pinch.
There is nothing that is absolutely amazing about this Duane Reade, but I go here quite often, almost once a week and I seem to be able to get what I need and if I can't find something, the staff here is usually helpful. Their checkout line is always long, but they blast through the line very quickly, so you can be in, out, and on your way.
Their pharmacy at this location is pretty good, with a friendly staff and they have a decent travel size toiletry section – excellent for all the hotel guests in the area, as well as people like me that travel a lot for work.
Not a huge fan. The staff are usually AWOL or, at best, VERY lackadaisical about giving you assistance. They no longer have a photo lab…which is for the best since the old one only worked sporadically. The upstairs layout (checkout right next to the only two entrances and exits in the store) is abysmal! And the layout downstairs makes me feel like Jareth is about to pop out and throw a crystal bubble ball at me at any minute.
Nice cashier staff here, especially in the mornings when the line is long with moody/short-tempered people who are in a rush and just hopping in to pick things up before going to work.
This is one of the newer, renovated Duane Reades and they've intergrated well with Walgreens ever since they were taken over. I've hopped in here for emergency eye liner (yep, every run out of black eye liner?! It's an emergency), nail polish, toothbrushes, potato chips, hair products, etc.
There are always tons of specials/sales here, especially if you get their 'rewards" card. I've lost track of how many times I've recieved $5 off just because I got a certain amount of points or something, $5 will always make me smile no matter where or on what.
This Duane Reade is one of the best I've experienced, it sits on the corner of Columbus Circle, the heart of Manhattan island. Immediately following my dental appointment I had time prior to my schedule work shift which I noticed that the new rewards card program debuted on January 21, 2010. I rolled over my old cards to the new rewards card program. However, to my complete utter dismay I did not receive the coupon Flex rewards booklet to accompany the new card with my rollover, thus four stars.
I wish there were a bigger selection of vitamin water particularly defense type to support the immune system, which none were available.
Customer service at this Duane Reade is much more attentive, courteous and willing to assist clients without distributing rude scowl profile looks, unlike other locations.
The line is systemic and orderly with their renovations which gives an uplifting refreshing look.

Ugh. I fucking hate this place.
This particular Duane Reade BLOWS.
If I could give it zero stars, I would.
