  1. Minimally convenient since I need to get some drinks, snacks, cash (Citibank ATM?), and pain pills.

Keep in mind that the food items are waaaaaay in the back, the medicines in the middle, and the beauty aids and supplies are right in front of the store. It's a bit of a maze to go through, but it works. Place is otherwise clean and decent.

Baskets are available if you have multiple items, and the staff seem to just stock stuff, not too helpful in anything else, occasionally cashiering your items, if they happen to be around.

This lack of customer service and enthusiasm seems common in DR stores, and to a lesser extent, Walgreen stores too – at least in my home area of Chicago.

Not sure of the local CVS, as I never been to them as of yet. But at least going to DR, my Saver Card account works here too, for coupons, discounts, and Saver dollars. Being a Walgreen's company, I would surmise I can get my prescription refilled here too, but I won't be too hopeful.

  2. Wow, this store got a makeover!  The store is huge and clean and well lit. It is split level, so definitely beats the two-floor Duane Reades that I hate so much.  But I found this store pretty difficult to navigate. It is very oddly shaped so you can't easily see down all aisles from the front to figure out where you need to go.  Two entrances and two sets of cashiers is very convenient. Good offerings and selection.

  3. Review is for the pharmacy:

I had a prescription for a common vitamin (not even a medicine).

I was told it was in stock and the wait would be 20 minutes.

    "Twenty minutes" meant an hour.

No proactive updates, and two other customers sat alongside me — presumably thinking their orders, too, would be ready in "20 minutes".

Just be more accurate with the wait time, so customers can decide if they want to wait or go elsewhere.

  4. Ever since the lastest renovation and the company repositioning and a yikes, luxury brand, I am officially putting Duane Reade on a death watch.  Through the years, we've seen a renovation at this location, then an expansion, then a total revamp of the logo and floorplan.  Duane Reade is making a big mistake by going "upscale" in such a down economy.  I can already see Walgreens and CVS's popping up all over the city and what does Duane Reade do but to "buck the trend." If foot traffic is an indication, Duane Reade is close to going to intensive care.  (BTW, a Duane Reade branded box of cookies should cost 4 bucks.)
