Don't judge a book by its cover!!! Wow, how true is that statement….when you pass by Duffy's ( as much of a "hole in the wall" as it is) you would never think this place would pump out the delicious food that it does.
The burger….oh, the burgers! Nothing but 8oz goodness of fresh, delicious ground beef patty heaven! Thick & Juicy smothered in cheese & served on an English muffin…what else can you ask for. Served with fries or onion rings. It truly is Staten Islands best Burger!
The kitchen ,which is small, was pumping out a lot of to-go orders beside the dine-in orders…those guys were cranking. Keep up the great work boys! While we were eating, people were waiting for tables to become available.
The decor is nothing special. The service is nothing special. But the prices are well worth it! It's your typical Irish Pub.
Had lunch here with the Mrs. today before going to see the SI Yanks.
We decided we were going to order off the specials menu. For an appetizer, we had the Cajun Steak Tips which had a nice little kick, it was served with salsa and sour cream.
For burgers, (which may be the best on Staten Island), I had the Irish Cheddar burger with sweet potato fries and my wife had the Bleu Cheese burger with waffle fries. Everything was very good, we lucked out as the place was not very crowded.
On a side note, they also have awesome French Onion Soup and Chili, which are great during those cold days.
This is a hole in the wall Irish bar with probably the best cheeseburgers on Staten Island!
Very good value/ price and the meat in the burgers is thick and very tasty. They are served on a toasted English muffin and with melted on cheddar cheese. Above average tasting fries too.
The seating can get a bit cramped if they are busy – the tables are fairly close together and the hallway is kinda narrow. Nice authentic/ nostalgic bar atmosphere though.
I happened to be on Staten Island and decided to drop by Duffy's for their storied burger. It does live up to the reputation as the best burger on Staten Island, but also one of the best in the city. The nondescript tavern can be found in a line of shops on Forest Ave, but inside it is a nice space with lots of locals, professionals and a mix of ages all who come out for its great food and drink.
I did not have the Reuben sandwich, but it also appeared to be delicious, and a lot of people were ordering it.
The burger is outstanding, but not my favorite in the city. It is served, similar to Rotier's in Nashville, on an English muffin and in a simple style that I like with few condiments. You have a choice to add more toppings, but I kept mine simple with cheddar cheese, onion and mayo. The burger patty is thick and juicy, and near perfect. What would make it absolutely perfect? Grilling it on a charcoal grill instead of a flame grilled — I am picky about my burgers as my regular readers know — I don't consider them great if they are flame grilled. Charcoal taste is required for me to be really impressed (I guess childhood nostalgia is why). However, that aside, this is a large, simple and delicious burger that is worth the trip.
Drink prices were reasonable, and the service was fast and friendly. If you need a little Staten Island in your life, this is a place to get it.
OK- It's a dive bar. Which is fine.
Get a beer and sit at the bar and watch the game. But to say you have The Best Burger on SI? Sorry, no.
I had it. Can't say anything special about it. Had I know it came on an English muffin, I would have asked for a bun. There was nothing special about it. The meat didn't stand out, nor did the toppings. Fries were fine. Just eat those instead.
