  1. – Hot food station looks like it's been sitting there for awhile (I came around 7pm)
    – Salads have great ingredients, good taste, and huge portion size at an inexpensive price
    – Drinks and bakery look like they'd be good, but I did not partake

  2. I came on a rainy Friday afternoon at 12:55pm. I waited inline, and when it came time to give my order, one of the servers behind the counter didn't have anything to write on. So I thought I'd give him a second to grab the order pad. Instead he barked at me, asked for my order, and then I had to REPEAT IT after he finally got ahold of the note pad.

This should have been my first sign to leave (and fast).

Then I waited for 45 minutes. I watched multiple different people come, order their food, get their food and LEAVE. I waited another 15 minutes (boiling mad at this point) and thought, it's NUTS that I have to wait an hour for prepared food that literally just needs to be heated up. Especially as I watched them prioritize the non-prepped food first.

I lost it at this point, marched up to the food counter and asked how much longer. The response?

    "I didn't take your order. I don't know."

Wow, that's so incredible "helpful". He walks over to the other guy behind the counter, they talk briefly and then they BOTH START IGNORING ME. I'm getting angry again now, just writing this review.

I march up to the cashier and tell him I need my money back. He then says "Oh, you didn't get a receipt, I can't help you." To which I practically screamed, "I KNOW my total, you can LOOK IT UP." Does anyone here know how to be helpful? He then makes a big show of going behind the counter and asking when my order was and saying, "Oh, we moved it up, so you'll get it next."

Moved it up?!? I should have LEFT by now. Give me my money back, NOW.

If I could give 0 stars as a rating, that's what I would give Dumbo kitchen. Even a one star rating feels generous.

  3. Me and my boyfriend would come here frequently to get drinks after work and the garage we parked in was next door. I will say my favorite part of this place is the Champagne and olives, they are my favorite.

We had one of our best nights out a few weeks ago when we got the opportunity to meet one of the owners Micheal. This man was amazing, he paired food and wine for us, so that we could expand out taste buds and our knowledge at the same time. He told us stories about Italy and his family and it was great. It really felt like we were with family.

We look forward to going back sometime soon, we don't drive to work anymore so it's been harder to stop by. Don't let the reviews denture you from going, this is a great place that is owned by a lovely family.

  4. I was in DUMBO for a block party event on a Saturday afternoon and when it was time to eat this place looked so convenient. Their menu offered a variety of food selections, sandwiches, salads, burgers and a small bar. This is a walk up, order, seat yourself and pick up when called type of place. I have no problem with this type of casual set up, however the key to get the line and orders to flow smoothly is having your staff move this process along consistently. The placement of the register and the menu weren't placed appropriately to maintain order in the order taking and submission. We waited way to long for our food, two hot sandwiches, that's it. My sister was oddly patient as she stood at the counter. Many were perplexed by the chaos, some were getting food immediately while we waited 30 minutes for a sandwich. Finally we get our two sandwiches, mine is roast beef and sis had grilled chicken both on sub rolls. We should be content, right? Nope….took a bite and all I tasted was crack your lips dry bread! {sad jazz horns playing} Now, I'm not the type of gal to be shy about getting my grub on, but I refuse to indulge in carbs that aren't even tasty, so I left most of that sandwich on the plate. So, the lesson learned is to always check Yelp before eating at a place that you've never been to before.

  5. Wasn't too much of a fan of this place.  Food took FOREVER to come out, and it wasn't that busy.  How to order is not clear, you'll see when you go, and when the food finally came and we walked the very short 5 minute walk to Bk Bridge Park, and ate the food, it was just meh.  Burger was overcooked, fries needed to be fried again.  Too bad the deli a few doors down wasn't doing hot food.

  6. We were in the area and just randomly picked this place to have a late lunch.

This place has a very interesting concept… but as a first-timer, it was a bit confusing. Basically, they have variety of sandwiches and burgers, soup, salad listed on the wall and you go up to the counter to place your order. There was also a display of fresh ingredients for salad, you have the option to BUILD YOUR OWN SALAD or pick from the salad selections that they have on the menu. On the display case (cold) there are also variety of precooked dishes (meatloaf, chicken dishes, short ribs, grilled fish), veggies, pasta and salad. For the meat, they price it per piece and for veggies, pasta and salad they price by portion size (small or large). So you actually get to pick your own meat and sides from the cold buffet and they will reheat everything and put it on a plate for you… so it's like a build-your-own plate. The concept is cool but it gets a bit confusing and if you're on a budget, the pricing will really get to you… they are not that cheap, though, they looked cheap! A small side of veggie or pasta or salad will set you back between $5-$7 depending on the item. If you choose two sides, then you times two! Then you pick your protein which range from $7-$12 per piece. So a good size plate will actually set you back for around $12-$20.

Hubby ordered DK Burger which was $15 for a burger that comes with fresh arugula salad and fries. The plate was a good size but the burger was not good! The meat was a bit too raw for our taste and what made it bad was that it was dry and tasted as if they didn't season it at all. The arugula salad, on the other hand, was very very salty! Fries were just so so.

I ordered the lamb belly sandwich which came as a warm sandwich. It was very flavorful but the lamb meat was a bit too dry as it felt as if it was not fresh (probably been reheated many times?). There were also still some bones in it which was a bit of a put of and a hazard… one might lose their tooth if they bit into that hard bone! The flavor was there, but the execution was a bit of a flop. My sandwich also came with fresh arugula salad that is again extremely overly salted! I also ordered a small side of roasted Brussell sprouts. They were very delicious and flavorful with a little bit of a kick from the chilly flakes. It was the best thing that we ate from Dumbo Kitchen.

This is a self-served restaurant so you have to get your own utensils, water, napkins and clean up the table yourself.

OVerall, this was just an OK for me.. great concept but the pricing was a bit high considering you can get a full bigger portion meal anywhere in the city for less than $10! (if you're into food cart/truck, $5 will get you full!)

  7. Great decor, roomy, and a good place to sit and wait for people. Drinks are a tad overpriced but it IS dumbo… Haven't tried the food yet, so we shall see.

  8. My salad was excellent but what a headache it was to order and pay for this. We arrived during the lunch rush and there were two lines of people and everyone looked just as confused at me.

The restaurant actually has 3 separate counters. One with the cashier, another with the hot food items, and another at the salad window. However they have two lines roped off in front of the hot food counter, so naturally that's where everyone lined up. The staff began shouting for us to order at the counter with the food we wanted. I darted to the salad counter with five people following suit. Once it was prepared for me I had to fight my way to the counter on the opposite side to find the cashier. It was so crowded and congested up by the counter the staff could barely hear you to take your order.

This restaurant is really hip and clean, but needs some serious help with organization and efficiency.
