  1. Having a new coffee shop open up close to you is a good thing.
Being that I fall slightly (although this is most likely questionable amongst those close to me) in the 'Nerdy' category, I was intrigued when the newest Bushwick java joint opened with a name like Dweebs.  It took a little while for them to get their sea legs and their personality to emerge but this is to be expected from a place of that namesake.

What I love about Dweebs is that it is simply just a good neighborhood coffee shop.  Instead of spending all your time on kitschy themed design ideas or pretentious snooty overpriced cocoa culture, they have just provided the neighborhood with a quite, clean and non judgemental space to chill.

The staff is overwhelmingly friendly and on point.  It's nice to walk in and feel like you're getting a cup of coffee from your friend or roommate.  The coffee is great.  I love their cold brew as well as just a hot black coffee.  Supporting local and independent businesses is important and Dweebs follows in that ideology by sourcing from NY roasting company Red Roasters.  Their choice is an obvious one once you've had a cup.  I love the cold brew.  Its strong and properly made.  Half the shops out their offering cold brew (even chain shops) aren't doing it correctly.

Their small menu I have yet to try but I am looking forward to trying.  With offerings like avocado toast and muenster grilled cheese, I'm sure to be pleased.  Who's the 'Big Ninny' that declared scones, muffins and cookies are what we want to accompany our cup a joe.

I haven't attended any events but in keeping with the namesake they are offering board game night every Thursday.  They had live showings of the latest show by Neil Tyson Degrasse.

The decor is simple and white, with outdoor seating in front, raised above the sidewalk.  It provides a nice alternative to relaxing.  The location is the middle of a residential block and sits above the street in between the brownstones adds to the laid back atmosphere.

I'm looking forward to their liquor license coming through which will allow for the alternative place to have a glass of wine or beer (of course that could lead to some skuffles over 20 sided dice).

So if you're in the hood and passing through pop in and try a cup, support the coffee rebels, be Luke and help defeat the Death Starbucks!

  2. I have zero complaints about this cafe! Really sunny with great seats right in front of the windows, friendly staff, cheap drinks and food. The iced tea they brewed for me was perfect and the toasts look delicious. Wifi works, plenty of outlets. Only wish it were closer to my apartment!

  3. Well…well …well. I was scrounging for coffee places since I was more than late on my way to work and needed to grab something asap.   Dweebs!!! I completely forgot about this place. A new business sometimes has to be open for awhile before it truly gets its bearings and identity. This little nerd got itself a Bushwick style makeover and I approve. There was this stunning colorful art show hanging from all the walls!! I loved the detailing and the colors and the content. I was drawn to "Blood Witch I" and "Blood Witch III", of course. I recommend checking out Ben Campbell's work on Instagram bencampbell77 .

The menu at Dweebs also looked interesting and tempting. Even though time was getting away from me I wanted to try the eggs with pico de gallo and cotija cheese on sourdough bread, "eggs! on toast". The barista slice up bread for me and cooked the eggs in the steamer cup of the espresso machine. I have never seen it done that way before. I enjoy seeing their creative ways of cooking without an actual kitchen.  As he worked ferociously on my meal I took a gander of the improved space.

There is a giant communal table and mix match seating and a tiny little shelf with homemade pottery for sale. The pottery would make a beautiful and thoughtful hostess gift. And an industrial credenza in the back stuffed with board games. A nerdy colorful sci-fi poster print that I myself would love in my home. I am not so secretly a sci-fi fan. You can blame it on my dad and Philip K. Dick. I also loved the fresh tulips next to a vase full of dumdums. A double stacked cake stand stuffed with Dough doughnuts and muffins.

The coffee they use here is Spectrum. I am not too familiar with the brand but it was strong and did the morning trick for my commute. The sandwich was open face so it was a challenge to eat on the way to and in the subway.

Dweebs you are officially on my radar!

There is also a front deck/ patio that is perfect for summer!
