Dyckman Express Restaurant
“Overall, the competition is stiff as far as Dominican food in the Heights, but this place holds its own weight, especially as far as prices, and will always hold a piece of my heart.”
“If you live in the area, stop in for an amazing rotisserie chicken and a big container of buttery white rice.”
“We ordered the half chicken and the monfongo, chicharofongo (mashed plantains with fried pork).”

I have concluded that you can't really get good food in the heights anymore. However, I will continue to eat everywhere until I prove myself wrong, or file for bankruptcy because the prices in this neighborhood can push someone to start selling drugs just to buy dinner.
This place is basic but since my last visit eight years ago they added an outdoor seating space. I don't know why anyone would want to sit outside under the train and surround by exhaust BUT if you want to show everyone you can afford a hookah then this is the place to be.
The chicken sandwich was ok and $5. I feel bad for that guy that never gets a morir sonando but I wish they were out when I stopped in. It was pretty lame. The Cuban sandwich was ok, but I wasn't a socialist at the end of it. the orange juice was tang-y.
The tables need cleaning. The chairs are a mess. The waitresses don't come around. Nobody cares how you are doing.
Cheap, fast and open 24 hours. Late nights are the best when you are coming from clubbing and stop by for a "Mangu de los 3 golpes". for those of you that don't know, its Boiled mashed green plantains, with butter, 3 sides (fried eggs on easy, fried salami, fried white cheese).
The chicken is great, but some times its a hit or miss.
Also for a drink try the mango shakes or morir sonando ( die dreaming) milk with OJ ( if you dont know how to mix it, the milk will spoil and taste like crap). Also dulce 3 leches = 3 milk cake something..Really good i might add.
This is typical Dominican food (just like Cuban) everyone is very friendly and accommodating at this place. They have a full bar and karaeoke.
No parking, sucks, but its the city.
For $14 I got a gourmet piece of red snapper with a nice tomato sauce, white rice on the side and beans on the side also. Alot of food. Soooo good. This place kicked ass. Its also open 24 hours I understand.
Yesterday I went here for Sunday lunch with one of my really good friends. He picked the spot out since he know good places to stuff your tummy. The only complaint is that the waiter took forever to return every single time we needed something . It was like she disappeared or took a nap before she came at our table but this restaurant is a good size, bigger than most. The breaded chicken, rotisserie chicken, sweet plantains, rice and beans was very good.
I'm a little surprised by the reviews. I was craving a traditional Dominican breakfast (tres golpes) and decided to stop at the first place I saw. The ladies behind the counter were very attentive (I speak Spanish), but can imagine that a language barrier might put a damper on service. My mangu wasn't super fresh, but it's kind of my fault for waiting until 11 to have breakfast. 2 plates of mangu with sides and juice came out to $25, not bad at all.
