  1. The sandwiches here are out of this world. There's a lengthy list of meaty masterpieces available on the menu. Perhaps I'm exaggerating a little, but I usually find myself here late at night after wandering out of one of the nearby bars in the area. And I can always count on these sandwiches to satiate my drunken hunger.

But, I have on occasion enjoyed them completely sober and that's how I know they're so good. They don't skimp on the meats or toppings. They're happy to oblige when you want substitutions, or if you'd like additions. I've yet to encounter the deli nazi, and I hope I never do because he'd probably kick me out of there swiftly.

The store itself has everything you'd want in a neighborhood spot. Fresh fruits and veggies, lots of refrigerated items that you can pick up quickly between trips to the supermarket and fair prices on most things. I do think their snacks (chocolates, chips, things near the register) are sometimes overpriced but I've found this to be the case at lots of delis with large selections. I guess you're paying for the variety.

The cashiers are indeed, generally unfriendly. But the sandwiches are so tasty, I hardly care.

  2. Three stars says "A-OK" on Yelp, and that's exactly how I feel about E&I. It's close to where I work, which is really the only reason I'm ever here, but it's a pretty handy little shop to have around. I get bagels or a sandwich here every few weeks, and I have to say, for the price, it's pretty great. $1.50 for a bagel with cream cheese, and under $6 for a chicken caesar wrap or chicken salad sandwich. I'm on board. But, it's really nothing special. Quality is just fine, and the staff is neither rude nor friendly – they're kind of just there.

Do be warned, like a lot of little delis, their packaged food is totally overpriced. I would never do my weekly shopping here, or really buy anything that I could get at a market instead. But for a quick lunch on the go, or a last-minute snack, they're just fine.

  3. This place makes me SO ANGRY! I only come in here occasionally because it's the closest bodega to my apartment (theres another one next door to E&I, but its a complete sh*thole!)..LIC is lacking in the bodega department!!

Anyways, the cashiers aren't the friendliest or the brightest. I went to pay for my coffee, fruit and egg sandwich (that the dude was making) and the girl wouldn't ring me up because she "didn't know the price". Seriously?! Figure it out chick. So I had to wait until the guy was finished, which by then at least 6 people were in line (and of course, she took forever to ring them up). Made me super late to work. Isn't the point of a bodega to get in and out of there quickly!? I almost just threw all the shit on the counter and walked out.

So effing annoying! I can't stand this place and will avoid it as much as possible.

BTW…this review is for the service only. The bodega is fairly clean looking and has a decent selection. I kinda feel bad giving them one star…but FFS hire some competent staff and maybe I'll update my rating.

  4. This is the epitome of a neighborhood deli. It's got some good items in there (a good range) and pretty much anything you'd ever need in a pinch. Some stuff is reasonably priced while others are overpriced but so goes it in a NYC neighborhood. Clearly the best part of it is hands down their sandwiches. I have been hard-pressed to find a better deli-sandwich anywhere in NYC, and I've tried many sandwiches in this attempt. They're made fresh, with great tasting ingredients, served over-stuffed with food and very inexpensive. No matter what we've ordered its always been nothing short of fantastic.

It's location is great and the nice thing is the people here remember you. My wife gets her morning iced-coffee from them and all she has to do is walk in the door and they turn and get it ready for her just the way she likes it. The night staff remembers me well for my sandwiches and always know what I've got and the price for it all before I get to the counter. It's a great, go-to spot in LIC for anytime you need something.

  5. This place packs a punch.  Not your typical deli – they have tons of groceries, offer a great selection of sandwiches at a great price($6), and it's right next to the 7 train.  They also have really nice flowers.
