I had the duck and taro rice noodles (a typical Fujianese snack), and it was delicious. My boyfriend had a rice dish with veggies and stir fried fish, and he only said: hmmm…this is interesting. We both liked their fish ball soup, because the fish balls were tender. Obviously, this place is not for everyone. You have to be a truly open minded food connoisseur to overlook the screaming cooks, customers, and servers. Also, my boyfriend says fujianese cooking is an acquired taste….whatever that means.
If you're hungry and in Chinatown at 4 am, where else are you going to eat?
East Broadway Restaurant is there if you're looking for a late night bite. Get your food and get out. Super hungry? Sit at one of the few tables. Order the ribs on rice. Do not order the scrambled egg with crab unless you have a perverse sense of humor.
This is a hole-in-the-wall with lots of local flavor. Bring cash, as I'm pretty sure they don't take AmEx.
This place is straight FJ. If you don't know what that means then you might be too white or too non-Chinese.
This place is your typical, get in, get your shit, and get the fuck out type of Chinese restaurant where customers that come in expecting service with a smile should get slapped.
Legend has it this place is open 24 hours, I have no clue but it is open pretty late. About the only thing I get here is the cooked ribs and rice for about 5 bucks.
I'll be honest, I only go to this place because it's open late, its about a block from my place in NYC, and I need to satisfy my MSG cravings.
