  1. I don't know why this place has such low reviews, the food here is great and the service is just right.
I've been here twice and the food has been consistently good. My favorite thing on their menu is the Peking pork chops, they're so good and that's coming from someone who doesn't like pork! It wasn't greasy and the portions were big.
They also have this great fish dish, I don't remember what it's called, but it was one of those 2 dishes for the price of one. The fish is cooked and served 2 different ways and it was delicious.
The waitresses/waiters were nice and seemed to really know the menu. They didn't come bothering us while we were eating, but still attentive enough to refill our tea when needed.

  2. I originally checked in to this place under the old restaurant name "Happy Garden" I'm not surprised at the low ratings when it came to the service. The place overall is really not bad when it comes to tasty and generous portions of Cantonese food. I must agree with other fellow Yelper's service could use some improvement.

We arrived at 6:30 PM on a Friday evening with 7 people in our entourage.  We sat and were immediately given our menu and served tea.  Now the place at the time was not full of patrons. I saw two other tables that were occupied and it appeared that the people were winding down their meals. So I figured our meals should come out of the kitchen fairly quickly, we ordered 8 dishes in total.

The food flowed out of the Kitchen in this order:
    1. Steak with broccoli served on a sizzling hot plate – The sauce was a little on the sweeter side, but very good.
    2. Pork chops with salt and chili – Nicely fried crispy and crunchy, but lacked flavor and under seasoned.
    3. Seafood with vegetables with stuffed seafood spring rolls – This dish was one of my favorites! The scallops, shrimp, squid and cuttlefish were flavorful and the spring rolls were very tasty

After our 3 dishes rolled out of the kitchen the rest of the dishes came to a dead halt!! So we wait, and wait and wait for 15 minutes.  We flagged one of the waitresses down to inquire about the rest of our food. After checking the food order ticket she spoke to the Manager running the floor who in turn screamed at the kitchen to stop working the take out orders first and cook for the patrons dining in. After she gave the kitchen staff a "PEP TALK" The food started to flow out again

    4. Mince dry scallop with egg and salted fish fried rice – This rice dish was just stellar! Nicely seasoned and rice cooked perfectly
    5. Pan fried flounder – Over fried and on the dry side. I know it's fried but it was devoid of moisture. One of the managers did a great job in deboning the fish for us though
    6. Pea shoots with thousand year old eggs, salted duck eggs and mushrooms – I really enjoyed this dish, the pea shoots were a little a on the "old" side, but overall this dish was very good!
    7. Mushroom Lo mein – Typical lo mein but a little over salted for my taste.

Our last dish took forever again. After inquiring about our "MIA" entrée we were told by management that they had just finished butchering the chicken and is being cooked now, so it is very fresh! Yeah! and so is the BS!  15 minutes later our final #8 dish arrives!

    8. 1/2 steam chicken with ginger and scallion sauce. – You would figure this last dish should be the "Piece de resistance"! Unfortunately the chicken though very moist was bland as bland can be! The sauce was devoid of any flavor, extremely under seasoned!

I do like this place because overall the food is decent and you get a lot of food for your money. They do need to tighten up on how the "ticket orders" are managed between the wait staff and the kitchen. So customers like myself can get our food in a reasonable amount of time. I do plan to return in the future, hopefully I can bump it up another star or two, I'm rooting for you guy's!

  3. Party of three for a Saturday lunch after a very disappointing lack of parking space in Flushing we came here as a last resort despite of reading all the bad reviews.  All the 1 and 2 stars are dead-on accurate.  Upon entering we noticed the dinning area was near empty with only two parties occupying the whole restaurant.  We ordered two dishes of meat, one bowl of noodle soup which were all mediocre.  It was heavily loaded with grease, MSG and oil.  Service was inattentive to flag attention.  We had to chase the waiter to attain two bowls of white rice to accompany our lunch while he fled to never, never land to do off-the-job nonsense.  Extremely overpriced.

Despite of this establishment's name "East Dim Sum" which implies Dim Sum is readily available, there actually is NO Dim Sum!  There are no Dim Sum push carts, nor anything resembling Dim Sum.  EEK!!
