Don't get me wrong the food is good but NO WERE NEAR AS GOOD as the prices they try to charge you!
Almost $7 for a crunchy spicey tuna roll? What is this 1999 and your the only sushi place within 20 miles ? And $10 for pork fried rice? Which taste exactly the same for as any other Chinese food place for $5. Its absured really. The quality doesn't match the quantity of money they charge you.
The service is okay. They seat you very quickly and the host in front is always pleasent. To bad same can't be said about the waiters. They never have any personalities and have a habbit of snatching your food away.
The restaurant it self is decorated lovely. I personally enjoy their low lighting and dark colors.
I mean there's nothing particularly wrong with it, but it's just so tired. Dated decor and, quite frankly, dated attitudes of the wait staff. When you bring me a spring roll, when I asked for a summer roll, don't tell me I said the wrong thing. I know what I said. The food is fine, but would I make it a point to come here if I weren't in the mall? No.
I used to love this place . I dont know what happened. Years ago it was a great hidden gem for fusion food. As years have gone by things are going down hill. Its dirty, things are broken, seats are ripped, they prep food and take breaks in plain view of the customers in the back, service is TERRIBLE! Food is still decent not as good as it use to be. I ordered the lunch special two rolls and a soup. I asked for water and the waiter brings me a glass that i dont even think they washed! It was so dirty! The waiter was extremely annoying he brings me over the check and waits for me to count out my money. I put it in the little thingy and he goes to grab it. Like really? So picture this, im holding the check under my left arm on the table and trying to eat my spicy tuna roll with my chopsticks with my right hand while he hovers near the table for ten minutes. So im thinking Go ahead go for it, ill poke u in the eye with my chopstick!! LoL Finally im ready to leave and let the check loose, with in seconds he whisks the check away. Apparently my 10 dollar meal and my 4 tips was not enough for the annoying waiter because he gave me the stank eye three times and said something in chinese before i left. YOUR LUCKY YOU GOT THAT MUCH FOR A TIP!! Lol All i wanted was a quite relaxing late lunch. Geez
I first came here at least 4 years back. The food was great then! I am not sure what happened in the last four years but, the food was slightly below average. I probably would have considered going back but all of us who had sushi were sick the rest of the night! Gah!!
If you must go, get the non-sushi stuff. But there are many other places on the island for good sushi, skip East.
Great price for the ratio of food you receive during lunch. My only quip is the service. It was on the slower side and had to be reminded several times to bring out drinks and dishes. Granted we were a table of eight but there there were only three other tables. Let's button it up, guys!
My family and I came here on a Sunday to celebrate my mom's birthday. We heard the food here was good so we were excited to try it out since there aren't a lot of good Asian restaurants in this area. We were a very large group of 11 people so we ordered 7 dishes to share! When we were ready to make the order, my mom called a waiter over to take our order. After he took our order, a Chinese waiter approached him and started yelling at him out loud in front of us that he was supposed to take the order not this guy that we called over (I'm guessing because he wants all the tips to himself). Well I don't know what the reason really was, I was just speculating but nonetheless it was extremely unprofessional of him to have this altercation in front of guests. So we were all pretty annoyed. Anyways onto the good part. We ordered quite a few dishes and all of them were pretty much reasonably priced and they gave us huge portions as well, which I was really happy about.
1) beef chow fun: LOVE LOVE LOVE how they cooked this dish. I love eating chow fun but many restaurants make it so soggy, or semi burned, but this place makes it perfectly! The noodles had a good texture, and the beef was not chewy but very tender. The sauce that they used was good as well. It didn't taste too salty which I really appreciated!
2) pan fried noodles: basically yellow noodles fried until they're crispy, topped with stirred fried veggies and shrimps in a sauce. I don't have anything bad or good to say about this dish, I thought it was all right…. Nothing about it screams special, but it's a good option if you want to share.
3) spicy tuna roll: lackluster. Nothing good to say about it I guess. It was all right…. As good as a roll you'd find in a buffet. Nothing special and not much effort was put into it.
4) grilled pork chops: this was the best dish that we ordered! The pork was grilled just right and seasoned beautifully! It was also not burned and the meat still came out very tender. Tasted very good with rice!
5) mango chicken: I thought it was a really cool dish! The presentation really caught my eyes because they stir fried the chicken with the mangoes and then place the contents in empty mango skin shells. The mangoes were just slightly cooked so you can still taste the sweetness and freshness of the mangoes when you bite into it. The chicken was also tender, and moist (I hate hate dry chicken).
6) red snapper Thai style: basically a big giant fish rolled around in batter and deep fried! It comes with a sweet/sour/ spicy sauce for you to pour over. I really like red snapper but I thought there was way way to much batter! I got more batter than I got fish, so overall I wasn't extremely happy with it. However it did taste really good with the sauce!
7) beef and broccoli: your very basic stir fried dish. I enjoyed it because the meat was tender and the broccolis were fresh! You couldn't get any better than that.
We also ordered Pina coladas but they were super watered down, they didn't blend the ice well enough so there were multiple big chunks of ice in my drink! So I wasn't so happy about it.
I guess overall I really enjoy the food. I thought it was quite delicious and the Portion size is worth the money that I paid for. I'd definitely come back to try more!
Surprised to see so many mixed reviews! I used to come here all the time when I lived on Staten Island (I'd estimate at least once or twice a month for 5 years). They're rather pricey but portions are huge! Def. my fave Chinese/Fusion spot on the island.
For the most part, my ex and I used to order the same couple of dishes each time we came and they've always been consistent and great. Here are the things we've had and order all the time:
Pineapple fried rice – yumm ! i like my fried rice a little mushier so this is perfect. Delicious, fragrant, mildly sweet rice with chicken, eggs, onion and huge chunks of pineapple. I actually can't find many places that make a pineapple fried rice as great as this.
Crispy Shrimp and Chicken with Honey Walnut – The only time I used to ever have sesame chicken was here! Crispy white meat chicken drenched in that sweet honey soy glaze. So good with the pineapple fried rice! The crispy shrimp is excellent too — even better than at some family-style Chinese restaurants that I've been to. Though the breading is slightly too thick, the shrimp is massive!
Maki combo – I actually find their sushi to be quite good !! The fish is actually cold, contrary to so many other spots. We used to order the combo that came with spicy tuna, spicy salmon and spicy yellowtail if we weren't in the mood for Chinese. Or if we were in the mood for both, we'd split rolls for appetizers, hha. Their special rolls are also excellent — American Dream is the go-to!
I've also tried their Honey Ribs, Miso-glazed Chilean Sea Bass. Chicken Chow Fun, and one or two of their duck entrees (can't remember exact names) and they've all been pretty tasty, esp the bass!
Waiters/waitresses are definitely a little stone-faced and curt sometimes but the service has always been fine.
YUM!
Now to address the asian purists, yes- you will not find authentic ChinaTown/Flushing food here. East Pacific never said they had the same food nor are they competing. Bottom line, they bring out a delicious meal – end of story.
I think our waiter's name was Tony, he was a hilarious asian guy.
The Appetizer's I tried were all OK
Crispy Calamari (very fried, chopped not rings) – Satay Chicken – Thai Spring Roll – Salad with japanese ginger dressing, Yum
Now, for the GOOD stuff! ALL of their entree's were Gorgeous! The Mango Rice came out in a mango, the Lobster dish came out with a full Lobster shell on top of it, everything was just beautiful – and very enticing. I tried someone's orange chicken – battered and fried strips, soo good!
Now for the Sushi – The specialty rolls we ordered were HUGE
What does that mean? It mean's 2 roll's would not leave a guy hungry. He may be able to eat more but he will not leave hungry.
Dynamite Roll
Salmon, asparagus, roasted pepper, kani and mozzarella cheese deep fried w. bread crumb topped w. eel and honey wasabi sauce
– Deep fried roll, enough said! Everything about this was pleasantly sweet with a nice crunch.
American Dream Roll
King crab, eel, shrimp and seaweed deep fried w. bread crumb topped with tobiko and served w. eel and spicy mayo sauce
– Another fried roll! Together with all the ingredients it just does a little happy dance in your mouth, Great!
House Wasabi Roll
Tuna, salmon, avocado and tempura flakes w. red and wasabi green tobiko on top
– This was actually kind of small compared to the other specialty rolls but it was loaded with fish, no filler crabmeat or cucumber, etc. Delicious!
Surprise Roll
Tempura fried shell crab, cucumber, avocado, radish with eel, masago and spicy mayo sauce
– Oh, this one was a real winner, the best roll of them all! Its like a regular Spider roll on crack. Get One! Or Two!
Wait, there's more!
Panna Cotta with Green Tea Ice Cream – Wow. All gone. Wow….
Creme Brulee – Ranks right up there with the best.
If Staten Island wasn't so far and the prices were lower like the Manhattan version, I'd be over there all the time.
Oh- 1 star ding because the food was not served at the same time. They were served like 20+ min apart, where one person would be finished with the meal and another person's had not arrived yet. Yes we had 16 people but it was also an empty restaurant…
