This review regards the ice cream section of the place mostly for now but there are million more things to try so will keep you updated. Imagine if i would visit the Nutella bar first then you would see 5 stars without any question 🙂
They have about 10 gelato choices. Me personally love more frozen and shaped scoops but here they use a spatula and place ur choices into cup in a "messy" way so trying a specific kind at a time may be smarter to have a proper idea of the taste. They do not have a cup big enough for 4 choices, i got 3. Melts fast so pay fast and get a seat if any available. I tried tiramisu, pistachio and chocolate, pistachio was the best.
Eatly is a gigantic Italian store which means you will see pastas and cheeses all around you but if you dive and check in detail, they have a wide selection of almost anything food related. Pricey? Maybe a bit. We got organic apple vinegar, honey and a tiny jar of a red sauce to try after our Gelato session 🙂
Love their satisfaction test machines at the exit 🙂 They serve wine inside btw. Such great cheese selection requires 100 visits to sit and drink 🙂 Gift items available.
How on earth do you go to NYC and not have Italian? There are way too many Italian restaurants to choose from but I refused to leave this city without some type of pasta and I remembered Eataly was on my list after we happened to drive by it. We returned the next afternoon for an early dinner and was completely overwhelmed by how busy this place is! It's truly a grocery store, café, meat market, and a restaurant all under one roof………yes, crazy! We had to find our way to the back of this place to order pasta and we were seated immediately. I started to lower my expectations with so many different things going on there is no way the food would be that good…..but I was so wrong, my tagliatelle with short rib was so amazing……….so fresh, so tender……I could eat it daily. Definitely worth the hassle and don't forget the gelato for dessert on the way out…….a must!
Only complaint is the crowd. Try to avoid peak times by arriving early or going late.
Ahhhh, this place is the Italian haven of the city. All your Italian desires are in one building. From pasta to pastries, meats to cheeses, wines to espresso, I mean, what else can you ask for? This place is usually packed, so don't be surprised if there's a wait in every corner. Service is always great, and staff is willing to help you out. Broke mid-week tip: come here get some of the pasta that's made in-house (Squid Ink Fettuccine was my choice) and a jar of sauce (got me some Pesto). Cook the pasta, add sauce, and put it on a nice place. And there you have it, a delicious Italian meal that is Instagram-worthy + tastes good + without spending a ton. Oooh and surprisingly getting the pasta made in-house is pretty much the same (even a little cheaper) as the packaged ones.
I have been here a number of times and I enjoy the atmosphere. Sometimes it is a little crowded, which can be annoying.
The only thing I bought there was gelato, which was great.
CRAY CRAY ALL DAY.
This play be CRAY CRAY. Their prices be CRAY ON CRAY. Their samples be CRAY ON CRAY. Their sandwhiches/pizza be CRAY ON CRAY. Their cheese selection be *puts mic to the crowd* CRAY ON CRAY.
Come walk around… buy a single cheese. Do not expect to grocery shop unless you are an king of a nation and can afford to spend $30/ounce of cheese. It's a fun place to try…buy a couple things for a MSP picnic…see the crazies…buy your aunt an italian cookbook. Otherwise, not like a go-to spot for some NYC dollar pizza. Not that I thought anyone thought that.
Long lines and ridiculous prices always, but what do you expect. I've never eaten inside Eataly because trying to find a tables is a mission of its own. We always buy our food and eat it outside in Madison Square Park.
The focaccia bread they sell at the bakery is mediocre. I expected more since there was such a long line for it. The gelato is one thing I do come back for on hot days and when I'm in the area, medium is always more worth than the small because for $1 more you can get 2 scoops. Overall Eataly isn't a place I would go out of my way to commute to.
Been at Eataly many time, but it was the first time I had a wood oven pizza. Got a Margarita with a fresh salad. Both were good.
Waiter got us to try a couple of wine before we picked (always appreciated).
I'll be back again!
