  1. Pretty good (and large) lobster roll, and the BLT with lobster was also great.  A bit crowded though, and the prices are a bit high (but that's the area).

  2. Seafood (specifically oysters and lobster) is one of my favorite foods! I arrived in NYC and after traveling/ shopping, my mom & I wanted to stop in somewhere we could have a light meal. I had Ed's bookmarked on Yelp and it seemed like the perfect option. Walking in, we found exactly what we were looking for– cute, casual, and filled with my favorite food options.

We sat at the bar and had some champagne and I ordered the oyster sampler, while she ordered the lobster bisque. Both were perfection. I finished my oyster platter and thought why the heck not, and ordered yet another sampler platter and more champagne. YOLO, right? I was in heaven, It was such an enjoyable and relaxing experience and I told my mom I definitely wanted to come back during our stay. $84 later (on just myself!) I was full & happily satisfied.

I got back to the hotel and checked my bank statement (which had two charges from Ed's!) OF COURSE it had to be the $84 mid day meal. Long story short, I called in and the nice girl who answered the phone said she would give Ed a head's up and also gave me his email address. Apparently there was a glitch in the system and my card was charged twice. Ed was very nice and helpful in getting the situation taken care of and my money refunded. He also offered for me to come dine on him, for the amount I had spent before.

We had another lovely time on our 2nd trip there– more oysters & champagne. We also tried the clam chowder, which was delicious. I ordered the seafood platter, which I cannot say I would ever get again and spend my money on. It was okay. The service behind the bar is super nice, but in the dining area, not so much. The server was stand off-ish and the exact opposite of attentive.

Overall and wonderful place and great location. I will definitely be going back on my next trip!

  3. This was our last stop on our New York trip, and I was decently satisfied by it. I think they could do better on some fronts but honestly it was just a cute location (albeit very cramped and small) with super friendly wait staff. We started with a bunch of the oysters which were excellent, the crab and artichoke dip which was one of the stars of the show, and the lobster bisque. The bisque was pretty thick which I appreciated but only one tiny chunk of lobster in the bisque (oh well). I also split the lobster ravioli which was creamy and filling as expected, as well as the lobster burger which was just okay. It was very plain which I guess was supposed to emphasize the flavor of the lobster? But I feel like the breading overpowered it. I was still very full and happy with the meal, but for the price I feel like I expected more.

  4. Ok, so if you didn't know…Ed's Lobster Bar battled Luke's Lobster on the Food Network years ago and was crowned the winner of the best Lobster Roll in NYC! At the time, I was traveling to New York often and wanted to get in on the action to form my own opinion.  And, I have to agree–the Lobster Roll is definitely all that!

There are 2 locations and this one is a tiny spot in SoHo, with a long bar and limited seating in the back. The menu itself has a number of seafood options including a Raw Bar, Soups, Seafood appetizers, Main Dishes and the star of the restaurant–Lobster :-). The primary item I come here for is the Lobster Roll and it is the most expensive sandwich I've ever had ($30). What I like about the roll is that it includes the tail and claw meat, with limited mayo and other additions. So, you really get a good portion of Lobster.

This time I had the Clam Chowder and Lobster Roll, while my sister ordered the Corn and Lobster Chowder and Fish/Chips. Usually you would get fries with the Lobster Roll, but we both opted for salad greens. Soups were tasty, although not my fav clam chowder and the roll was delicious (albeit smaller than I remembered). Either way, we enjoyed our lunch, but for the price–this is not somewhere I come often. However, for an occasional decadent splurge, when I have the craving for a Lobster Roll…Ed's is definitely my choice in NYC. Happy Eating!!!

  5. Settled on this spot after being turned away from three other places due to wait times. Saw a bunch of free tables in the back on a Saturday afternoon, but they weren't allowing anyone to sit there…okay. The three of us sat at the bar instead.

Seeing the prices, decided to go with the Lobster Bisque ($9),a side of sea-salt fries ($7), and the Lobster ale ($7) to wash it down. Bisque served relatively hot and with no bread or crackers, so I dunked the fries in it intermittently. The soup had a grainy texture and wasn't as smooth as I'd hoped it would be. Fries were pretty good – not too salty.

Felt underwhelmed with this meal. I've had better bisque elsewhere and with better value. I did like the free chocolate at the end, but with the crowded space and the okay food, I don't see myself coming back.

  6. I'm obsessed with lobster so clearly love it here. I want to camp out at the bar and make a life here. I can't count the number of times I've frequented Ed's because it's been numerous. The clams, lobster roll, lobster and stuffed lobster are all amazing. All come with hearty heapfuls of fresh lobster perfectly seasoned. Te staff at Ed's are crafts(wo)men! Highly recommend for any occasion. Any time of day. Any reason. It's just delicious.

  7. The lobster roll was exceptional, just perfect! I had seen a clip of Ed McFarland sharing his recipe with Martha Stewart, and I was eager to try his version of this classic. Really was perfect. Compared to other lobster rolls I've had in the City, this lobster roll had a lot more meat. Real chunks, as you can see in photos. The price was pretty steep, though – it's market price, and on my recent visit, I paid $30, with tax and tip around $38. There was a good portion of fries served with the lobster roll. With the bill, they gave me a tiny dark chocolate lobster served on a chilled dish. Very nice. I would give 5 stars, but the service was lacking. I sat at the bar. Next to me a couple showed up, and they seemed to be the staff's favorites. The bartender/server gave them oysters on the house, and said, "You're regulars!" He was so attentive with them, and that's fine, but I had to ask to refill my glass, etc. I felt a little ignored, while the server was constantly filing their glasses, etc. I thought as he would walk by me to fill their glasses, he may serve me, too. I had to try hard to get attention several times. But in the end, I was there for my lobster roll, I enjoyed it, blocking out the server, not caring that I wanted water, or that I was trying to say, Excuse me.." With better staff, this would be 5 stars.

  8. My friends and I raided the place as if we were starved animals. We ordered:
The mussels: disappointing. I have had much better before
The dip: good but it comes in a tiny tiny bowl
The raw oyster platter: no complaints from them
The poutine: nothing beats Canada's poutine but thie was good
The linguine and clam sauce: i had better. Not so great
The lobster bisque: it was good
    The whole steam lobster: good
And 3 lobster rolls: lots of meat. The bread could have tasted better. I like Luke's lobster roll better or red hook.

Their dessert i didn't care for. The blueberry creme brule was very creamy and soft. Their cherry pie was no briermere pie.

Along with drinks it came out to be $100 bucks pp for 4 girls. We did order a lot tho.

The place is narrow with lots of bar seating. The back has limited seats. We didn't have to wait long for our table. They only seat complete parties.
