To me surprise, the market was empty but luckily, the most of the stores were open. From the main door, we spotted Ed's Lobster Bar. The ending of the night in the air was evident in this cold night and it wasn't warm there but we decided to get something not much cooking involved dishes so we can eat and go.
Oyster Sampler ($27/10) Those oysters were fresh and fine, nothing memorable. I hate to say this but I prefer standing oyster bar inside of the Lobster Place at Chelsea Market. There, I can pick exactly I want by pointing the oysters and able to see where it comes from and the price rather than a waiter pointing each oysters and telling me – I never remember which is which anyway.
Eds Signature Lobster Roll ($17) It had a packed full of lobster bits and it wasn't heavy with mayo but I tasted some are not so fresh and that was disappointing for me although I appreciate serving this late for us. The pickles that came with were nice touch, crunchy, sour and sweet but I didn't think the sweetness worked with the lobster roll for me.
If I try again, I chose from the small plates; fried oyster, lobster burger, or lobster meatball that all comes as a slider. They sounds different and gives variety in my palate.
Not sure why all the low reviews for this place. This is one of the better lobster rolls in the city.
Stopped by for lunch at Gansevoort Market, and settled on Ed's. Their lobster roll was absolutely delicious – I probably like it better than Luke's and Burger&Lobster. The bread it came on was perfect, and the morsels of lobster tasted fresh and was seasoned perfectly. The various fresh lemonades they have were really good and refreshing as well (albeit on the sweet side). The staff were all super friendly. The place takes credit card which is convenient. There are a few seats at the bar where you can eat, or take your food to the communal dining spots.
Would definitely come back again if I'm ever craving a lobster roll!
Boyfriend and I ended up in this market after an afternoon on the high line. The lobster roll was calling my name, and I'm glad I got it. It was packed with fresh lobster meat and not overdressed with mayo or anything. The pickles that came with it were pretty darn good too. Overall, if back in the area, I'd definitely stop by again!
